MV – Chapter 147: The Twin-Star Demons and the Minor Villain

Previous Chapter l Next Chapter

“Hyahaa! We did it! We did it, right? At the very least, we definitely dealt some serious damage, right?” (Lanpeach)

“Yeah, no doubt about it. Big damage for sure! As expected of Soldier. There’s no one better when it comes to sneaky attacks.” (Libra)

The minor villain danced around in excitement after his surprise attack succeeded. His clumsy and unsightly dance was offset by the cute, silver-haired twin-tailed priestess dancing beside him. Without the minor villain dancing, it would be a cute dance instead, making him quite the nuisance.

That said, the plan was a success. It was called “The Minor Villain Who Gained Power, Only to Fear When It Fails Against the Strong”. It was a reversal of the common anime scenario where a somewhat strong minor villain confidently attacks the hero’s rival or the final boss, only for the attack to have no effect, leaving them terrified. Apart from the lack of naming sense, the plan was flawless.

A window popped up with a ping before the smoke cleared.

[Release the Wind and Earth Spirit Kings. Level 9.]

[Destroy the Twin Spirit Temple. Level 9.]

[Boss Fight: Defeat Relage and Gusion. Level 9.]

“…Looks like I just got hit with a major spoiler.” (Lanpeach)

The minor villain looked at the displayed quest with a dubious expression and sighed as he glanced at the altar, still shrouded in smoke. He hadn’t expected to defeat them in one hit, but he’d hoped to leave room for optimism.

“Still, it’s good that we at least destroyed their exterior. It’s such a pain fighting enemies before they transform, right? They’re just annoying, whittling down our health and magic.” (Mira)

“I agree, but…they’re demons, yet they weren’t in a demonic form. They were just an elf and a dwarf.” (Lanpeach)

“Yeah, I thought that was the end of it too.” (Libra)

Libra stopped her shrine maiden dance, floated up, and settled on Lanpeach’s shoulder.

Angry shouts echoed as the smoke slowly dissipated as expected.

“Y-YOUUU! What trickery have you used? How could you possibly wound us?!”

Emerging from the smoke with a soft footstep was a demon that resembled a lizardman. It walked on two legs like a lizard, with red scales instead of green, and its neck was long like a snake’s, adorned with two thin horns. Its eyes were reptilian slits, and it flicked a long, forked tongue from its mouth. In its hand, it carried a twisted bow that seemed to be made of bones.

“Ununu, how can this be? What is happening? My wounds won’t heal. No, I can’t rewrite it so that ‘it missed’… What’s going on?”

Another demon appeared, groaning. It, too, looked like a lizardman, but its scales were brown. It wielded an ominous axe with a skull mounted on the hilt.

This was the true form of Relage and Gusion. Their demon forms. Both were covered in wounds and dripping black blood, so the energy blast had clearly worked.

They both trembled with rage, but they had brought the attack upon themselves.

“We obviously came prepared with a countermeasure. Let me explain to your small lizard brains. On behalf of the Hunter Guild, I warn you that your techniques are illegal, and you should immediately grovel and hand over all your belongings.” (Mira)

Mira taunted them mercilessly, subtly trying to rob them of all their wealth as well.

Of course, they weren’t about to listen. On the contrary, the moment they heard Hunter Guild, their snake-like faces turned pale.

“T-The Hunter Guild? It still exists?! Impossible!”

“Surely, it’s not the old Hunter’s Guild, just some imposters using the name!”

Mira ran her fingers through her hair and smiled slyly, ignoring their shouting.

“I’m Hunter Mira from the Orihalca Hunter’s Guild, part of the Space Library. Does that clear things up for you?” (Mira)

“The real deal…? Does that mean you’ve really found a way to counter us? But… according to the Lunatic Library’s predictions, that wasn’t supposed to happen!” (Relage)

Relage panicked, but Mira answered him with silence and a confident smile. Her composed demeanor made it clear that they had indeed found a countermeasure, which caused the two demons to ready their weapons.

“In that case, we’ll just have to destroy whatever this technique is!” (Relage)

“We’ll show you the power of demons!” (Gusion)

They had been so confident earlier, but now their small-minded nature was plain to see.

“Well, that’s what happens when you enjoy being invincible by cheating. Guess it’s time to announce your account ban. You’re getting a notice straight from the admins.” (Lanpeach)

Lanpeach glanced disdainfully at the demons and raised his hand.

“Alright, let’s go, Libra.”

“Aye aye, Soldier!”

[Divine Spirit Fusion]

The two fused and, in a flash of light, Lanpeach transformed into a spirit warrior, his silver hair extending down to his waist.

He wasn’t letting his guard down. He is dealing with the 7 Demons after all.

“?! That form… No, it must be a disguise. Take this!” (Relage)

[Rotting Fruit]

Relage nocked an arrow, gathered miasma, and released it. The arrow, poisonous in hue, tainted the air as it flew, reeking of decay.

“You’ll start rotting if that hits, so be careful. It’ll make your old man smell even worse.” (Mira)

“I have no old man smell! Besides, that’s easy enough to block.” (Lanpeach)

Lanpeach aimed his Haze and fired an energy shot. A straight arrow like that was easy to shoot down, even with his eyes closed, given his marksmanship.

The energy blast hit the arrow, shattering it with ease.

“Tch, using mere energy bullets! How impudent.” (Relage)

“Sorry to disappoint you, but if I used physical rounds, they’d rot and dissolve, right?” (Lanpeach)

“Then all I have to do is fire more arrows than you can shoot down!” (Relage)

Relage moved like a machine gun, nocking arrow after arrow and firing them rapidly. Lanpeach and Mira split up, dodging the rain of arrows as they circled the altar, climbing higher.

“Hmph, I hope you haven’t forgotten about me!” (Gusion)

Gusion leapt from the top of the altar, swinging his hammer with such force that his back bent to what seemed like its breaking point.

“Become a corpse and sink into the grave!” (Gusion)

The hammer created gales and came crashing down like a meteor, but Lanpeach zigzagged in a dance-like motion, making it impossible to aim at him.

When the hammer struck the altar’s floor, the ground didn’t just crack, it crumbled into sand as if they were in a desert.

“Woah, what an annoying skill. So it’s one of those defense-ignoring attacks?” (Lanpeach)

Lanpeach fired at Gusion with Haze, but despite his monstrous strength and appearance, Gusion dodged lightly, avoiding the energy blasts as he ran around the altar.

Even though his shots were traveling at the speed of sound, Gusion managed to evade them.

[Rotten Field]

Relage gave up on shooting arrows and snapped his fingers. A miasma began to spread outward like ripples from beneath his feet. Though nothing seemed to happen to the altar or the giants…

“This is an area-effect spell. If you touch it, you’ll rot.” (Relage)

“An area attack with an instant-death effect? That’s a fittingly demonic move.” (Lanpeach)

[Soldier, I’m analyzing the structure of that magic attack. Hit the points I indicate!] (Libra)

[Okay. So we’ll destroy that magic attack!] (Lanpeach)

Libra sent a line that sounded like something a support character would say. Various pieces of information appeared in Lanpeach’s field of view, with Relage’s body being highlighted and magnified.

A target appeared over Relage’s heart and head, showing him where to aim. You could take anyone out if you aim for those spots!

“The meaning of ‘weak point’ is different here! I’ll still aim for it though!” (Lanpeach)

He focused his mana into Haze, and divine light began to gather as particles at the muzzle of the gun.

[Radiant Magic Bullet]

A blinding laser shot from Haze, enveloping the area in a violent beam of pure white light that devoured the space around it as it shot toward Relage.

It swallowed the miasma along its path, purifying it as it closed in on Relage, who widened his eyes as his magic was forcibly broken, and quickly moved to dodge.

“You won’t escape. This isn’t just a stream of energy.” (Lanpeach)

Keeping the trigger pulled tight, Lanpeach maintained the beam and swept it toward Relage, chasing after him.

“Kuh, a human? Even though you are an imitation spirit warrior you have energy far stronger than any of my previous foes!” (Relage)

[Rotting Fruit]

Relage fired arrows while running, but they were futile, vanishing as they were swallowed by the light. He couldn’t stop it.

“Gusion! Stop him!” (Relage)

“I’m on it! You little brat, I’ll sink you with this!” (Gusion)

[Creation: Magic Sword Volley]

Gusion halted and raised his hand at Relage’s panicked cry. Magic swords began to emerge from the air around him, each with a keen edge that suggested they had been honed to perfection, exuding terrifying mana.

“Swords forged with the souls of dwarves! None have survived after being hit by these!” (Gusion)

The swords shot out like missiles with a swing of Gusion’s hand, all aimed at Lanpeach.

“Have you forgotten that I’m here too, aside from Pla-san?” (Mira)

Mira, who had run to the other side, emerged from Lanpeach’s shadow. She fixed her gaze on the approaching swords and raised her hand.

[Creation: Magic Sword Volley]

To everyone’s surprise, she used the same magic as Gusion. An equal number of magic swords appeared and were launched in opposition.

“What?! How can you use my secret technique?” (Gusion)

“That’s because I’m Mira of the Mirror. Any technique my enemies show me, I can use as if reflected in a mirror.” (Mira)

Mira declared her cheat-like ability with a calm expression. The magic swords clashed while Gusion stared in shock, shattering in midair.

—Only Gusion’s swords were shattering.

“W-Why? Why are only my swords breaking?” (Gusion)

“My swords move with precision. Yours, on the other hand, were simply thrown. The outcome was obvious.” (Mira)

At the moment of impact, Mira’s swords deftly adjusted their blades, striking at Gusion’s swords with the precision of a master swordsman, shattering them.

Controlling the complex movements of multiple swords at once was a simple task for Mira, with the assistance of the Space Library.

“N-Nuoooooo!”

The swords swirled around, slashing at Gusion like the sharp stings of a swarm of bees, cutting him to pieces.

“Gusion?! Impossible. How can we lose this easily?!” (Relage)

Relage let out a death scream as he was consumed by the white light that finally caught up to him, and he vanished.
