MV – Chapter 49: Fake Protagonist Minor Villain

Previous Chapter l Next Chapter

Lanpeach decided to become a fake protagonist. What a fitting action for a minor villain.

Being discovered and suffering by the hands of the protagonists is basically the fate of a minor villain.

But Lanpeach was determined to take a similar action to this and act like a fake protagonist.

An unwavering resolve to not retreat.

That’s because there’s a better chance of surviving in moving advantageously against the other transmigrators over being a minor villain in a world filled with death flags.

Guy showed cautiousness towards Lanpeach, who leveled up, just as Lanpeach expected, and looked nervous.

[Acquired Physical Combat Level 5 and Supernatural Powers Level 3. Please choose your specialty.]

Lanpeach chose without hesitation at the question of the Space Library.

[Air Throw, Rush, and Enchant Psychic.] (Lanpeach)

Once he finished choosing his specialties, the knowledge and experience flowed into his brain directly.

That knowledge fused together with his mind and body, and it changed into natural memories as if he had them stored since the moment he was born.

The stance of Lanpeach didn’t change, but his bearing changed greatly.

He changed into a top class martial artist in humanity in an instant.

By the way, you become inhuman after level 6, so there’s no doubt you are humanity’s strongest at level 5.

[Physical Combat Level 5 confirmed. From here on, all stats will be doubled.]

—And then, you get the bonus when reaching level 5.

When you reach level 5 in a skill from the martial arts branch, it becomes double.

You barely get any EXP from anything aside from quests. Becoming level 5 in Physical Combat reveals a hidden event of sorts as a bonus.

———

He could feel his own combat power shoot up in one go.

Each and every cell has been strengthened. Lanpeach has obtained power that wouldn’t lose against low level Spirit Armor.

“Y-Ya could Element Fusion with an Artificial Spirit?! Hah? Is yer Inherent Skill…a wild card that can fuse with all Artificial Spirits?!” (Guy)

“You are sharp. Artificial Spirits have lower capabilities than Natural Spirits, but…they have a variety of powers.” (Lanpeach)

This minor villain didn’t say a word about being able to use Element Fusion.

He praised Guy as if looking down on him.

As expected of a crook. His skill as a scammer is top class even without the scammer skill.

“T-That’s cheating… No, ya can see that often in hidden protagonists. Our Natural Spirits are specialized and strong, but being able to switch powers at convenience is so useful!” (Guy)

And Guy was beautifully deceived.

It is partly because the atmosphere of Lanpeach has changed greatly. Also, Guy said he is a hidden protagonist, so he thought it would be normal for him to have a peculiar skill like that.

(Lanpeach-don can fuse with Artificial Spirits, huh… Weaker than Natural Spirits? The Artificial Spirits you can get in mid game are all fearsome and strong. He can use Element Fusion with them… Haha, I might have pulled a jackpot here.) (Guy)

“But I can attack without holding back now. If ya have use Element Fusion, ya should be able to revive after dying once.” (Guy)

“That’s right. Come attack me with reservations, Guy.” (Lanpeach)

“Then, Imma attack with all mah power!” (Guy)

Guy made mana flow through his whole body and drew out his highest power. That mana created the illusion as if it were covering the body of Guy.

[Didn’t I say to attack with reservation?] (Lanpeach)

[What are you going to do?! He plans on attacking with everything.] (Libra)

[I know! But this is all for the sake of acting like a fake protagonist. Even if the flag raises of me dying after acting like a fake protagonist…I will break it!] (Lanpeach)

Libra was smacking his head in agitation, but Lanpeach had no intention of stopping even if he was flustered.

He needs to get attention even if that means his information is leaked.

“Uoryaaaaa!”

Guy swung down his tachi with all he had.

It is faster than before.

“It is easy to understand though.” (Lanpeach)

[Air Throw].

Lanpeach shifted half of his body and purposely took a step forward.

He slipped to the side of the tachi, touched the arm of Guy lightly, and turned his hand.

“Nuoo!”

Guy flew into the air with just that and was thrown onto the ground.

Guy is wearing metallic armor, so he made really loud noises as he was smashed onto the ground and was made to roll.

[Air Throw: You can throw lower enemies with a counter. However, it is only limited to mid-size humanoids and lower.]

Lanpeach put his hand to the front and beckoned Guy who stood up hurriedly.

[Lower enemy, huh. There’s no Physical Combat in the level system, so the world would be full with lower enemies in terms of Physical Combat.] (Lanpeach)

[Hmm, I am slowly starting to understand what you are trying to say, but that’s true. The physical skills of Guy are impressive, but his physical combat ability is on the rookie level. He can’t block the air throw of a master.] (Libra)

Libra agreed with the guess of Lanpeach.

The pretty shrine maiden’s eyes shone fiercely and seemed to be interested in the information of transmigrators, but Lanpeach ignored her.

“What unbelievable martial skills. But Spirit Barriers can mitigate even impacts. I haven’t been injured one bit.” (Guy)

He stood up and took a stance with his tachi once again, showing a bold smile.

“I know. That’s why I am going to put a little spin to my next attack.” (Lanpeach)

He thought ‘Guy-san, you are raising the flag of defeat there’ and was baffled by it. He chuckled, but he began his next attack.

[Enchant Psychic].

The space around Lanpeach’s body began to sway just a few millimeters away from it, to a degree where it wouldn’t be possible to tell unless you strain your eyes.

The power that surpassed the laws of the world dwells in Lanpeach.

Guy saw this and hesitated for an instant, but he swung his tachi once again.

[Air Throw].

—And then, he spun in the air just like before, and was smashed onto the ground…

“Gaha! W-What? Why…is my barrier…?!” (Guy)

Even though he didn’t feel any impact at all when he was made to roll on the ground a moment ago, pain ran through the back of Guy this time around. Air escaped from his lungs and he felt pain.

“Interesting, right, Guy? You are no match for me.” (Lanpeach)

[Ahahaha.] (Libra)

Lanpeach nailed it like a cool guy, and Libra teased him for that.

He wanted to smack her chest and say ‘you damn pretty girl’, but he endured.

He had to maintain the cool Lanpeach.

[Enchant Psychic: Imbue with the Almighty Element. Pierce through 20% of the enemy’s defense.]

The strength of Supernatural Powers is that it can deal damage to all enemies. It lands damage against enemies who nullify physical and magical damage, and it is the worst match for Guy.

“…Kuh! I can’t fight in close combat against a former martial artist. Then…magic!” (Guy)

[Earth Bullet].

Guy raised his hand and shot a big rock the size of a volleyball like a bullet…but Lanpeach had already reached the bosom of Guy with a sharp step.

“Slow. You are full of openings.” (Lanpeach)

[Palm Strike].

He muttered this and pushed his hand onto the thick armor of Guy, and poured ki into it.

It looked like he just placed a hand on top of it, but there’s a few centimeters of distance.

However, the body of Guy trembled, withdrew with unsteady steps, and fell onto a knee.

He covered his mouth as if trying to endure vomiting.

“G-Gaha! Why…? Even though Adamantine Body should mitigate the damage greatly… Are ya telling me this is the damage after being mitigated?” (Guy)

Guy groaned in pain at this feeling as if his whole body had been torn to pieces.

Lanpeach laughed back at this.

“I am holding back here though.” (Lanpeach)

It is a lie.

It is because he is piercing 70% of his defense. But Lanpeach showed a haughty act of surplus.

This minor villain would surely be able to take the role of co-star in a movie.

His heart was drumming in reality though. He is not in an Element Fusion state after all.

It would be over once he dies, and Guy would suspect something is up if Lanpeach were to get injured, so this is a battle with a lot of handicaps in place that must not be discovered.

“Kuh, mah level should be higher… Then, AoE magic!” (Guy)

[Ground Forest Spears].

Guy placed his palms onto the ground, and ripples spread as if he had placed his hands onto the surface of water.

Lanpeach knew what this motion would bring about, so he looked at the rippling ground and quickly casted silently.

[Telekinesis].

Several iron plates floated from the ground and stopped like stairs.

Lanpeach swiftly climbed the iron plates and rose up into the air nimbly.

The ground swelled up soon after and stone spears jutted out like a pincushion.

The stone spears chased after Lanpeach at high speed, but Lanpeach ran freely in the air with the iron plates as scaffolds, so they couldn’t catch up to him.

This only lasted for a few seconds. The stone spears stood close together like a forest, ran out of effective time, and crumbled into sand.

“T-That was AoE magic! Ya shouldn’t have been able to avoid it, and yet, ya did?!” (Guy)

“Then it is a lie that it is AoE magic.” (Lanpeach)

Guy opened his eyes wide at this way too unbelievable sight and shouted.

His body shook and he felt fear towards the shuddering godly technique of Lanpeach.

That’s obvious. There’s no enemy in the game that would evade in this fashion after all.

That’s obvious. There was no enemy in the game that evaded in this fashion, and in real life, it has been blocked, but not evaded.

“Wa. Guh, then mah strongest!” (Guy)

[Comet Drop].

Guy squeezed out his mana and raised both hands towards the sky.

A stone cluster of around 5 meters in diameter showed up all of a sudden in the air, and fell onto the Lanpeach like a meteor.

It destroyed the wall of air with a roaring sound and went down as if with the express intent to destroy it all.

The strongest spell Guy has currently.

[Store].

But Lanpeach waved his hand lightly and the stone cluster disappeared like a sleight of the hand.

“Hah?”

Lanpeach smiled faintly at the dumbstruck Guy.

“Have it back.” (Lanpeach)

He twisted his body and directed his palm towards Guy, and the stone cluster that should have disappeared showed up again.

“Hah?”

Guy could only say one word here as the stone cluster fell without losing any power, crushing his body.

“G-Guho! Wa, reflect?!” (Guy)

The heavy armor of Guy was partially destroyed, the helmet broke, and the warped face of Guy filled with fear showed up.

“You didn’t die even with that. As expected of Guy. But…” (Lanpeach)

[This is checkmate!] (Libra)

Libra stole the last line of Lanpeach with a strong puff and pointed straight at him.

[Instant].

[Rush].

Lanpeach stopped time and unleashed a flurry of attacks.

Left jab, and right hook into a high kick. When the posture of the opponent crumbled, a right straight, and then spin in the air for an axe kick as a last move.

His specialty activated and the flow of time resumed, erasing the process, and only leaving the result.

In other words, Guy collapsed from being beaten black and blue.

He already surpassed the limit of the damage he could take from Element Fusion, and his body couldn’t endure the intense pain from his body.

“S-Something like this is…” (Guy)

Guy couldn’t do anything as his body began scattering.

The light particles gathered again and he returned to his original appearance.

“My win, Guy. Make sure to call me boss from here on.” (Lanpeach)

“…Right. I have finally found a reliable person. It is yer win, Lanpeach-don.” (Guy)

Guy returned to his original appearance, fell onto the ground with his limbs stretched, and nodded with a wry smile.

‘It seems like the fake protagonist plan went well’ -is what he thought as he grabbed the hand of Guy and lifted him.

  1. Ironically, if he had Enchant Psychic before the battle with the boss, he would not have had such a hard time.

Still, to think that it was the beta version. I thought that it could be a different Earth from each other and that they are playing completely different games from each other, using completely different systems.

Still, the hidden protagonist flag huh. It is not out of the question for Lanpeach to be the hidden protagonist still. Could it be that there was a developer dispute and stuff happened, resulting in Lanpeach becoming a fodder character? Or could it be something more ominous, like someone or something knowing that the game is directly tied to an isekai and forcefully giving death flags to Lanpeach in an attempt to ensure that he never becomes strong?
