MV – Chapter 8: A Minor Villain fighting monsters

Previous Chapter l Next Chapter

[Instant].

Lanpeach stopped time to adjust his aim and defeat it for certain, and pulled the trigger.

He is not a superhero here.

He has no intention of saving his ultimate move for last. It would be scary if it were to fight back after all.

He used [Instant], which can only be used once per battle, first. It is a valid method to reduce the number of enemies.

[Goblin’s Head: Accuracy Rate 70%].

The attack shot in stopped time, ignored the process, and landed on the head of the goblin.

A small hole opened in the goblin’s head and green blood spurted out. It then bent backwards and collapsed.

That’s right, a goblin.

It is a way too famous monster.

A gun that looks similar to a wooden staff fell from the hand of the goblin, and the goblin convulsed on the ground.

“Uooh! Uooh! Uooh!”

And then, Lanpeach shouted with a desperate expression, continued to pull the trigger without hesitation, and concentrated the shots on the fallen goblin.

Shots landed on the fallen snow, opening holes one after the other, and all the shots missed.

[W-Wait a moment, Soldier. The enemy is dead! You are desecrating a corpse there. Moreover, you are emptying your magazine!] (Libra)

“It might not be dead! Or maybe it will come back as an undead or have 3 phases!” (Lanpeach)

Libra, who should have been defeated, showed up in front of him, and desperately poked on his forehead to stop him, but Lanpeach continued to pull the trigger with an angered face even though it was empty.

Lanpeach was panicking from the fear and agitation.

[Also, you are not hitting! See, they are all missing!] (Libra)

“Ah? …T-That’s true. Gotta pursue.” (Lanpeach)

Lanpeach had a better look at the goblin, hurriedly tried to grab a magazine that’s hanging from his waist, and dropped them onto the ground.

He showed the pathetic sight of getting down and hurriedly picking it up.

[Libra’s analysis system, on!]

[Goblin Level 1: Dead.]

Libra sighed, telling herself this is no good. She looked up at the sky and turned on the system.

The current situation was displayed at the side of the fallen goblin, and Lanpeach finally breathed a sigh of relief and sat down.

It is the ability of [Space Library] Level 1: [Analysis]. It shows the name, state, and level of the enemy. It also analyzes items as well, so it is a convenient feature.

There’s also a similar ability called Appraisal. It is a simplified version of it.

[You are panicking too much, Soldier! What are you doing emptying a whole magazine on a single goblin?!] (Libra)

Libra smacked his head in anger. It must have been different from expected.

“I-I know. I understand what you are trying to say. But my life is at risk here unlike a brawl. Of course I would panic.” (Lanpeach)

Lanpeach groaned as if tired and thought back to the fight.

It was scarier than he thought.

His Mind stat is 9. 1 lower compared to your average person, but that didn’t protect him in a battle where he could die. Makes sense. There’s no way a normal person with no training would be able to do a gun battle where one mistake can cost you your life as if it were nothing.

It is by no means because Lanpeach is a newbie.

Lanpeach’s shoulders trembled profusely and his heartbeat is noisy, but it is not his fault.

“Also, I now know the effect of not having a gun skill. It is impossible to hit at this distance.” (Lanpeach)

The goblin’s corpse is 80 meters away and he didn’t hit despite spraying him with an assault rifle.

This is what’s normal.

A newbie landing a shot on an enemy the size of a child at this distance and in a back alley of a building. That’s hard even for a trained soldier. Moreover, it is an iron sight, so there’s a limit to how well you can adjust the aim.

[There’s also the obstruction of the Element Powder. All actions are attenuated if they are not imbued with mana, so scientific weapons that don’t have mana are pointless.] (Libra)

The Element Powder blessed the world with magic, but chained everything that is not imbued by mana.

Physical attacks and even tools for detection have their effectiveness reduced as if they were inside water. That’s why things like radars are also inhibited, so it is hard to lock them on with a radar sight.

That’s why it turned mainly into personnel battles. Even unmanned weapons are now difficult to use.

You could call it convenient game logic.

[The reason why the Human Galactic Alliance Army managed to defeat the Earth’s army that had overwhelming combat power, was thanks to the Element Powder. Against the Earth’s army that can’t use radars, they used the new weapon—] (Libra)

“Yeah yeah, I know that lore, so skip.” (Lanpeach)

He stopped Libra who was talking all proudly.

Lanpeach chuckled, thinking that’s a story he has heard somewhere else. A programmer was probably a fan.

It is added into the game like a little easter egg, and it has no relation with the main story.

Probably a programmer having fun.

[Well then, back to the topic. You have defeated a goblin and obtained 1 EXP.] (Libra)

Libra coughed, brushed her shrine maiden clothes, spun, and pointed with a big smile.

“That so.” (Lanpeach)

The amount of experience points you can earn in Powder of Elements is negligible from anything aside from special enemies, so he was a bit disappointed, but not surprised.

This game is centered mostly on clearing quests to obtain EXP.

Lanpeach went ‘good grief’ and approached the goblin’s corpse. It was already not moving anymore and blood was flowing out from its head.

Green skin and small body. It has eyes like those of a bird of prey with a pointy mouth and rows of sharp fangs.

It only has a straw skirt even in this cold and a wooden gun in its hand.

Goblin’s basic equipment…

He grabbed it and could tell it was light and made out of wood. When he took out the bullets, they were acorns.

But these are special acorns made from the magic of goblins. When the bottom is struck, it will explode like gunpowder and fly.

[Wooden Gun: Attack Power 1]

He gulped with cold sweat, and checked the wooden gun. It is a revolver with 6 chambers. Acorns may sound like toys, but they can deal as much damage as the full power straight of Tsuyoshi. Moreover, you can fire in rapid succession.

“I might have died if it ended up in a gunfight…” (Lanpeach)

Humans have a high chance of dying when they are shot on the head. You can die easily even in the game.

That’s right. This game is popular because it is a shooter game wearing the skin of a fantasy and magic game.

If you raise the level of your magic and physical combat, you can become extremely strong, but guns are the ideal for newbies.

Guns deal fixed damage, but are way too strong.

Also, you can get surrounded by enemies and turned into swiss cheese and die easily.

It was a shooting game with high difficulty, which drew people in.

“I-I have to get a gun skill quickly—hm?” (Lanpeach)

He clicked his tongue at having detected something again.

“A new enemy.” (Lanpeach)

[You were rolling drums with that gun. Of course they would hear it.] (Libra)

“Right. Damn it, enemies gathering when they hear gunshots is way too real.” (Lanpeach)

Lanpeach threw the wooden gun into his rucksack, and ran off.

A Wooden Gun is 10 Ele.

Lanpeach sells any and all items no matter how garbage they are. Then, he would carry too many trash items, go over the weight limit, be over-encumbered, get ambushed by enemies, shout that he should have thrown away the items, and die.

3 enemies.

Detected them running in the back alleys. Their speed is like that of children running inside the snow. In other words, really slow.

But he would get killed if he were to space out here.

“Hm!”

He put a foot on the wall of an abandoned building, grabbed onto a roof that had a hole on it, pulled himself up, and moved to the 2nd floor.

It is the power of [Physical Combat].

He grinned while swiftly running through the corridors of the 2nd floor.

“Isn’t it impressive that I can do parkour? Am I not amazing?” (Lanpeach)

Lanpeach was over the moon, thinking ‘Am I not cool?’. He couldn’t even do pull-ups in his world.

His lips were trembling, so Libra could tell that he was just trying to distract himself here and chuckled at this.

He slid through the floor and, when he stopped, he peeked out of the window.

There were 3 goblins running from the back alley.

“Gya gya!”

“Gihihi.”

“Gyaaa!”

2 of them had the same wooden guns like the previous goblin, but the last one is a flashy goblin with feather decorations all over its body.

It was holding a wooden staff and you could see intelligence in its eyes.

[Goblin Shaman Level 1.]

He narrowed his eyes at this magic user and was filled with tension.

He remembered the magic of a shaman.

“If I remember correctly, a Goblin Shaman’s spell is: [Stone Blast]. Its attack power is 3. It is an attack that creates a throwing stone at the feet of the enemy that enters its vision. It is the type that can activate through obstructions, so it is troublesome if left be.” (Lanpeach)

He grabbed a piece of rubble from the abandoned building.

Lanpeach looked at the piece of rubble that’s a bit bigger than his palm and smiled faintly.

[What do you plan on doing with that?] (Libra)

“A gun won’t be useful after all. I decided to stop relying on it.” (Lanpeach)

He raised it, wound up, and said with an evil grin to Libra.

“I will stone them to death!” (Lanpeach)

He stomped on the ground and took a pitcher’s form.

[Physical Combat].

He put strength in his right arm, grit his teeth, moved his body following the corrections of [Physical Combat], and threw the piece of rubble with beautiful form.

“Gaha!”

It landed on the face of the Goblin Shaman, caving it in, and taking away its life through the power of the rubble.

“The HP of a Goblin Shaman is 7, but it won’t be able to endure it if it hits its head!” (Lanpeach)

It is as Lanpeach calculated. It is just as set in the game.

Also, if you throw a piece of rubble bigger than your palm like a professional pitcher and it landed on the head of someone, they would normally die.

“Uooooh!”

Lanpeach ran within the shadows of the building while shouting.

Gunshots rang soon after, hitting the concrete walls, and punching through them.

[Why are you shouting?! You should be moving silently!] (Libra)

“Shut up, Libra. Do you think a normal person has the ability to fight calmly in a gunfight?!” (Lanpeach)

Libra placed both of her fists in front of her face and inflated her cheeks in anger, but Lanpeach made a serious face and shouted back.

There’s no way a normal person would be able to fight cool and optimally when bullets are flying about.

He picked up a piece of rubble lying around while at it. This time it was a pretty big one of around several kilograms.

He walked with difficulty but spirit, peeked out from a window nearby, and the stupid goblins gathered below the window.

“L-Lanpeach Attaaaaack!!” (Lanpeach)

And then dropped it.

“Gyaha!”

A single goblin got crushed.

The last goblin looked at its crushed comrade in disbelief. Looks like it didn’t think it would be killed with such a method.

“Oh, looks like there are discrepancies in the actions compared to in the game.” (Lanpeach)

Lanpeach opened his eyes slightly wide, seeing the surprised goblin.

In the game, no matter how many comrades died, their actions would show no confusion, and they won’t even feel fear unless you use something like magic to debuff them.

The enemies only take robotic actions.

“Well, it is good that they act like actual living beings, but it also makes me feel bad.” (Lanpeach)

They only did robotic actions, so he could kill them without feeling any guilt.

If they begin to wail and attack him with trembling arms, he might get crushed by the guilt.

[Instant].

He readied the G1 Assault Rifle, used [Instant], and shot it to death. He did that without hesitation and the finger pulling the trigger didn’t tremble.

“I will still kill them though.” (Lanpeach)

But being killed is scarier than being crushed by guilt.

Lanpeach is a coward and a minor villain. He treasures his life over everything else.

“Fuuh, that was a cool fight, right?” (Lanpeach)

That’s why he hid his disgust from killing a living being and smiled.

[It is far from the fight I was hoping for!] (Libra)

Lanpeach laughed heartily at the retort Libra made with a baffled face.
