——

Lanpeach slowly regained consciousness, and searched for warmth with his sleepy eyes after feeling cold.

It is cold.

It felt cold despite it being close to summer.

‘It felt like winter’ -is what he thought as he groped for the blanket.

He felt something soft and squishy, and thought he found the blanket. He hugged it, buried his face onto it, and relaxed at the softness that reminded him of pudding and warmth.

The softness and warmth of a blanket is more precious than anything. Also, he put money into his own blanket, so it is comfortable to the point of being able to brag about it to others.

“Geez, Lan… Hn…”

But he heard the moaning and happy charming voice of a girl, and stopped hugging the blanket.

He is hearing this kind of voice while sleeping.

The genius Lanpeach who has knowledge of anime and novels could pretty much imagine what’s going on.

Opening his eyes, getting surprised by the unexpected development, trying to get down from the bed in a hurry, losing his posture, screaming, falling onto the floor head first, and tasting pain.

It is not strange for this to happen to the minor villain Lanpeach, but Lanpeach did get surprised, however, he didn’t open his eyes and didn’t try to get up.

Not only that. He frowned as if feeling nauseated, and cold sweat ran down while getting the desire to vomit.

It is not that he dislikes the sensation of what he is touching right now. It is the scenario that he dislikes to the core.

He couldn’t believe it; he doesn’t want to believe it. He thought this as he slowly opened his eyes and he saw the appearance of the cute blanket that had her cheeks flushed pink and was wriggling in embarrassment.

He was downhearted at this, sighed as if fatigued, and felt like crying.

He did have a faint feeling that was the case, but he held hope, and sought for the spider thread that could reel him back as he went to sleep.

That’s why he didn’t mind that Chihiro entered his bed as if it were natural. It was snowing and cold, and the blanket was of bad quality and there was no heating, so Lanpeach trembled and sighed.

He couldn’t tell anymore how many times he has sighed since yesterday.

He has been thinking recently about how he would be living the same kind of lifestyle in the future as an affluent unmarried noble that’s not troubled by money. Then he would begin to save money, worried about his elderly days.

That was his life estimation, so he didn’t think it unfortunate at all, and has not sighed unconsciously before.

He opened his eyes, brushing his top quality blanket, gave up, and got up from the bed. The bed with worn down springs made creaking sounds which sounded erotic, making him blush.

It was pretty cold after he got out from the blanket.

He directed his gaze towards the window that had boards hammered onto it, and he could see a pure white scenery from within a gap from those boards.

He thought that it must be snow as he brushed his cheek gently, feeling it was time to steel himself.

The classic process would normally be to slap himself hard to the point of leaving a handprint, but that would hurt, so he decided not to. It is truly like Lanpeach.

Or more like, his cheeks are bruised all over because of his fight against Tsuyoshi, and were swollen.

He looked like an infighter that had finished a boxing match.

“Good morning. Hey, how old are you?”

There’s something he has to do first. It is the production day of his blanket.

The Minor Villain that’s scared of the police ran towards self-preservation first.

The result was that the blanket metamorphosed into Chihiro. Lanpeach rubbed his chest, thinking it is probably, most likely, fine.

Also, he learned that Lanpeach’s age is around 20 years old, but it is a piece of information that he didn’t really care about.

And it is not like Lanpeach had fun last night despite his age.

◇◇

“…Everyone…ran away…?” (Lanpeach)

“Yes, Lan… I thought it was strangely silent, and no one was in their rooms. Uhm…their things, their cash, and even their guns are gone.” (Chihiro)

His cheeks are swollen, his lips are cut, and his whole body stings all over.

Lanpeach, who was on his way to displeasure, just couldn’t believe the report of Chihiro. No, it would be better to say he didn’t want to believe it.

Lanpeach showed his anger with trembling shoulders, but he looked like a minor villain due to his thin body and atmosphere, so he gave off no pressure.

But Chihiro witnessed the fist fight of yesterday, so she still shrunk from fear and continued reporting in a low voice.

“They probably feared retribution from you since they insulted you so much yesterday. I didn’t expect every single one to be gone though.” (Chihiro)

It is not like Chihiro wanted to give such a report. But there’s no one in the rooms that had their doors wide open, so it is impossible to hide it.

They must have been really scared of yesterday.

‘It is true that Lan was creepy and had presence at that moment. It was scary. It is no surprise that they ran away’ -is how she reached an understanding in a corner of her mind.

“Damn it. They fear me that much…? That much…?” (Lanpeach)

That’s when Lanpeach noticed something bad here. The reason why people from the slums were scared enough to throw away their backing.

[Minor Villain: inflicts a Status Down proportional to your level on enemies below you at all times, and lowered success rate in their skills. Also, the affection rate people have towards you will begin at minus.]

(It is this! My subordinates in the slums were antagonistic towards me, so they were affected. If their physical capabilities decrease by 10%, their body will feel heavy as if they were anemic. If I think of the reason being because I glared at them, of course they would be extremely scared.)

His subordinates were most likely level 0. He overwhelmed even Tsuyoshi with Level 1 Physical Combat, so the other small fry were most likely 0.

He confirmed his Status, and his HP was 9 despite his face being swollen and every part of his body hurting. It means he has only received 1 HP of damage in that fist fight.

A difference of one level most likely widened the gap by an extreme degree.

It is true that, even in the game, you would only deal single digit damage even when using a weapon if you didn’t use a skill to attack.

There was probably no damage registered against a barehanded level 0.

The lackeys were hit with the effect of Minor Villain with that gap present, and decided to run away.

Lanpeach’s guess was correct. His subordinates thought they would be killed, were scared from the bottom of their hearts, and ended up running away even with snow piled up.

(I can’t blame Chihiro. This is my fault… Ah, but I can at least support Chihiro alone, and I can abandon this base. There’s no subordinates left anyways, so maybe we can move to a 7.5 square meter apartment… I feel like that’s somewhat immoral, but let’s ignore that part.)

Lanpeach thought it might be nice to live alone with a pretty girl, but his fear of this probably being a crime surpassed his happiness, so he groaned while imagining that future.

Chihiro misunderstood this as him being in a bad mood and continued talking.

“Hey, Lan, all the adults are gone, but the children still remain. Can’t we manage something with that?” (Chihiro)

“Hah? Children?” (Lanpeach)

“Yeah, I think the representative of the children joined the team yesterday. Those children are left. Come on in!” (Chihiro)

Chihiro raised her voice and around 30 children entered.

The oldest was around 15 years old, and the youngest around 5 years old. It is a mix of boys and girls. Approximately an even split.

He was on the verge of cursing while flustered, but was left speechless when he saw the children who were looking his way as if seeking salvation.

“What were these guys doing until now?” (Lanpeach)

“I think I told you yesterday that they are children from the orphanage that closed down…” (Chihiro)

He was on the verge of shouting ‘they were thrown away in the cold of winter?!’. He tightened his fists and frowned, feeling the desire to kill those orphanage managers. They must have known they would die no matter how you think about it.

That’s why the young man was that persistent against Lanpeach yesterday.

The original minor villain Lanpeach would have tormented them and thrown them away.

He thought he probably changed the original story here while also feeling like he couldn’t say ‘they can’t join the team after all’ and throw them away here.

“E-Excuse me, Boss, we will do our best, so please let us live here! We will do anything!”

The boy must have felt with his skin that they might get thrown away, so he shouted with a desperate countenance.

There’s nowhere the young man can turn to if they were chased away from here. Everyone would freeze to death.

(I don’t think I will be able to maintain this base even if I were to try hard… There were close to a hundred people. Now there’s zero. We would definitely lose in a base defense battle… No, wait…)

He thought this was a hopeless situation, but he looked outside and reconsidered.

Right now it is winter and snow is piled up. In other words, would the other teams try to steal from a base that has nothing?

He desperately tried to remember the game setting of the winter slums.

Powder of Elements even had a city building system, so the open world had a time passage of years and four seasons. Winter was the most troublesome one within those.

“If I remember correctly, you can encounter monsters randomly in the slums… That’s why the NPCs wouldn’t go out in fear of monsters, and no base battles happened. In that case…it can be possible?” (Lanpeach)

He put a hand on his chin and mumbled with an evil face, giving off an ominous feeling. Chihiro feared she might get thrown away.

Lanpeach could easily survive by himself, judging from the fist fight of yesterday.

Chihiro assumes that the reason why he hasn’t put a hand on her even when she has slept together with him was most likely because it would be harder to throw her away if he were to get attached to her.

Chihiro understood that she definitely wouldn’t be able to survive by herself, so she was trembling internally.

The children were relieved about being saved by joining the team, but they didn’t expect all the subordinates of Lanpeach would run away. Even so, they had no choice but to clink onto this base.

Could it be that Lanpeach is actually kind to children? He most likely held back to have them join the team, so he might love children despite appearances. No, the boy prayed that was the case.

The three parties were having completely different thoughts here, but Lanpeach stood up with strength, so their thoughts stopped.

“Alright, I have made a plan! Chihiro, you have my weapon, right? How much food is there?” (Lanpeach)

“Uh, it is of course in your room. As for food, we have the bare minimum…” (Chihiro)

“Bring my weapon and all the food!” (Lanpeach)

The word ‘bare minimum’ was added to it, so Lanpeach could imagine the taste, making him frown, but he switched gears and showed an evil smile that’s not that threatening, looking like a sore loser.

“Distribute it to my subordinates. I will go out and earn some money.” (Lanpeach)

“Where? It is snowing outside…” (Chihiro)

“I am an explorer. I am thinking of enjoying hunting.” (Lanpeach)

Chihiro and the children were confused by the sudden order, which contrasted the bold smile of Lanpeach.
