WM – Chapter 227: Takatsuki Makoto meets the Savior

Sponsored Chapter!

Lightning Hero Abel.

The Earth Hero Volkh-san certainly said that.

It bothered me that he is not being called the Light Hero, but Savior Abel possesses both the Light Hero and Lightning Hero Skills.

So there should be no mistake here.

“…Let’s free the others from their cages. Momo, let’s go.” (Makoto)

“Yes, Makoto-sama.” (Momo)

“You are a great help. Tell me who you are later please.” (Volkh)

We spoke in a low voice as we headed to the remaining cages.

The one tied up in the neighboring cage was a woman with long hair.

This person must be the Wood Hero Julietta-san.

I cut the chains that were tying her up.

And then, at the cage that was deeper in…was a slender young man who seemed to be the same age as me.

He has his head down and I can’t see his face.

He is…Savior Abel?

The legendary person that I have been told of uncountable times in the Water Temple.

I finally managed to meet face to face with the legendary Hero.

I was silently moved by this reality while I did the same as the time with Volkh-san, and cut the cage and the chains.

“That dagger…just what in the world is it made of?” (Volkh)

Volkh-san was staring at my dagger with deep interest.

“T-Thanks… Who are you?”

“…”

The Wood Hero Julietta-san thanked me.

Hero Abel was still hanging his head down.

“I am Makoto, and the girl here is Momo. I have come to save you people. Let’s get away from here first.” (Makoto)

“So he says. Let’s go, Julietta, Abel.” (Volkh)

“Yes, Volkh.” (Julietta)

“…Yes.” (Abel)

Looks like Volkh-san is the leader within this group of 3.

We 3 left the plaza in the mist while making sure not to get caught by the Gargoyle.

We advanced through the back alleys of the city for a while, and at the time when we arrived all the way to the walls…

*Gan! Gan! Gan! Gan!*

The loud sound of metal ringing and loud shouts of ‘The Heroes have run away!’ ‘Search for them!’.

Tch, found out, huh.

“We are running!” (Volkh)

Volkh-san’s shout made us run all the way to the walls.

The walls were around 3 meters tall.

Momo and I can’t use flying magic, so we were wondering about how to get over it.

“Hnnn!!” (Volkh)

Volkh-san destroyed the wall with his fist while making a throaty voice.

A giant hole was made in the wall.

As expected of a Hero.

We crossed that wall, jumped over the moat outside…and I was about to fail, but Julietta-san hurriedly pulled my hand.

“A-Are you okay?” (Julietta)

“Thanks…” (Makoto)

Why can everyone easily jump over a moat that’s further than 2 meters in distance…?

Or more like, Momo is unexpectedly physically capable.

“We are getting away before the demons find us!” (Volkh)

“Yes, Volkh! Even so, this dense mist really helps out. It is rare to see one this dense around here though…” (Julietta)

“This mist was made by Makoto-sama!” (Momo)

“Oh my, is that so? That’s impressive. Covering such a big area.” (Julietta)

“That’s right! Makoto-sama is amazing!” (Momo)

Julietta-san and Momo were talking as if they were having fun.

Aren’t they getting along too fast?

“Keep the talking to a bare minimum.” (Volkh)

“…”

Volkh-san made a wry smile and Hero Abel was as silent as ever.

He is looking down with a dark expression the whole time.

He is different from what I imagined.

We continued running for a while.

Volkh-san, Julietta-san, and Hero Abel were wounded everywhere and were barefoot, but they ran astoundingly fast.

We continued running inside the dark forest.

We somehow managed to run away.

◇◇

“Maan, you saved us there big time!”

“Haaah~…I thought we were done for for sure this time~.” (Julietta)

We were camping in the cave that Volkh-san made with magic.

Close to the campfire there’s skewered rabbits, and wild birds being grilled.

Julietta-san was the one who caught them.

The nice smell of cooking meat was wafting around.

…*Guuh~* the stomach of Momo growled.

“Hah!” (Momo)

Momo blushed at this.

“Young lady, you must be hungry. Eat. You guys are our life saviors.” (Volkh)

“Momo-chan~, eat a whole lot, okay~?” (Julietta)

“No! Makoto-sama was the one who did all…” (Momo)

“Just eat, Momo.” (Makoto)

I am not that hungry, so I urged Momo to eat.

Momo bites into the skewered meat.

I watch that heartwarmingly…is what I make it look as I use Perspective Change to observe the 3 Heroes.

Earth Hero, Volkh-san.

He is tall and has a good physique. The scars around his whole body are proof of the many hard fought battles he’s had.

The first time we met, he had a stern expression the whole time, but he is now laughing heartily as he eats the roasted meat.

He is saying stuff like ‘I want beer!’ which made me remember the veteran adventurer Lucas-san.

Is he doing well…?

Wood Hero, Julietta-san.

Chestnut color long hair and long ears.

Julietta-san is an elf.

Moreover, an incredibly beautiful elf.

Her attire is in tatters. The dangerous parts of her skin are close to visible, but she doesn’t seem to be bothered by it.

It seems like she has taken a liking to Momo and has been caring for her the whole time.

Momo seems to be happy that she can speak to a beautiful older Onee-san.

And…

Lightning Hero Abel.

Glistening blonde hair, sapphire-like blue eyes.

He is so handsome that you could mistake him for a girl, but I could tell that he is a man from his muscles and his chest.

He hasn’t opened his mouth one bit till now and has been watching the campfire.

“Hey, Abel… How about thanking Makoto-dono and Momo-dono at the very least?” (Volkh)

“That’s right. He came to save us, you know?” (Julietta)

“……”

Even with that, Hero Abel didn’t speak.

“Sorry, Makoto-dono. Abel lost someone close to him in the battle of before…” (Volkh)

“He is normally a more cheerful boy, you know?” (Julietta)

Volkh-san and Julietta-san said apologetically, but I shook my head to the sides.

“I am not bothered by that. The one who gave me the oracle to save the Heroes was the Sun Goddess Althena-sama after all.” (Makoto)

“Yeah, that, that! Hey, who are you, Makoto-kun? A Hero? But being able to hear the voice of the Goddess-sama means you are an Oracle, right? But you are a boy… What’s going on?!” (Julietta)

“Uhm…there’s a lot going on…” (Makoto)

It seems Julietta-san was interested in me now, she approached me persistently.

Woah, there’s a nice scent…

The personality of Julietta reminds me of the receptionist of the Makkaren Adventurer Guild, Mary-san.

Oh, right.

Idle chatter is good and all, but I have to ask a lot of things.

“Where do you plan on going next?” (Makoto)

Momo and I are rootless grass.

If possible, I would like to act together with them.

“Aah, we will return to our base. How about coming with us if you are okay with that, Makoto-dono? I would like to consult with you about a variety of things regarding the future.” (Volkh)

Ooh, they have a base.

That’s great.

“Momo and I have nowhere to go, so we will accompany you. Where’s your base?” (Makoto)

“Uhm, do you know Laberintos?” (Julietta)

Julietta-san tells us.

Wait, eh?

“Laberintos is a dungeon, right?” (Makoto)

“That’s right. We have made a base at the upper floor of it. There’s no proper city aside from the Moon Country in this West Continent ruled by the Demon Lords… We have no choice but to hide in dungeons…” (Julietta)

I see…so that’s how they hide themselves.

Dungeons where monsters are in is safer…

“Makoto-dono, from where did you come from? Momo-dono is apparently from the farm, but that’s not the case for Makoto-dono, right? I don’t think you would be kidnapped by monsters with that strength of yours. But the fact that you aren’t familiar with the land around is hard to comprehend.” (Volkh)

Volkh-san asks in wonder.

“I came from a faraway country…” (Makoto)

I can’t really say I have come from 1,000 years in the future, so I just  answer vaguely.

“Okay, let’s leave the talk here. Let’s get some sleep, and we will go straight to the bas—” (Volkh)

The words of Volkh-san were cut off in the middle.

The ground shook.

Magic was shot at us?!

“There they are!” “The Heroes?!” “I don’t know, but just kill them!” “If the Demon Lord-sama discovers that we let them escape, we will be the ones dead!”

I heard many footsteps and voices.

They have caught up!

“They found us, huh! Let’s go, Abel! Julietta!” (Volkh)

“Aah, this is the worst!” (Julietta)

“Makoto-sama?!” (Momo)

Volkh-san smacked the shoulder of Hero Abel, and Julietta-san scratched her head while going ‘kiiih!’.

I pulled the hand of Momo who had a pale face.

…I should have taken at least one bite of the meat.

“Uooooh!” (Volkh)

Volkh-san punched the gargoyle that lunged into the cave.

He jumped out just like that, and we followed after him.

“Achaaa, we are surrounded.” (Julietta)

Just like Julietta-san said,  there’s close to 100 monsters and demons with just a glance.

I saw a giant dog monster in front of us.

These are hunting dogs, huh.

They followed our scent?

“Momo, don’t get away from me.” (Makoto)

“Okay, Makoto-sama!” (Momo)

I pull the hand of Momo, and take a stance with my dagger to protect her.

We have barely slept since the other day, so I could feel my concentration has dropped a bit.

“It is the Heroes! Capture them!” “If it is not possible, kill them!” “Vuooooo!”

Monsters were attacking us one after the other.

Every single one of them is pretty strong.

“[Water Dragon].” (Makoto)

I drive away the monsters rushing me with water magic.

Maybe because I have been continuously borrowing the mana of the Water Spirits every day, the output is a bit weak.

But I am more worried about the Heroes.

They still have the same attire as the time when they were captured, so they are wearing plain clothes and are barehanded.

Volkh-san is fighting against around 10 monsters barehanded.

Julietta-san made an impromptu whip with the plants around using wood magic and was fighting them with it.

There’s no waste in her movements, and I could tell how experienced of a fighter she is.

…The one I am worried about is…Hero Abel.

He is fighting off the fierce attacks of the monsters coming at him, but he has practically no fighting spirit.

Is he okay…?

Fortunately, the Earth Hero and Wood Hero are strong.

The two defeated practically all of the monsters themselves.

How did these people get caught?

I assist the two in the chances I get.

(That’s a relief. It looks like we will be able to manage somehow…) (Makoto)

At the moment I was about to sigh in relief…

“Abel!!” (Julietta)

I heard the scream of Julietta-san.

When I look, it seems like Hero Abel slipped, he had fallen onto his butt.

A skeleton knight riding a wyvern was charging at him from above with a spear.

T-This is bad!

I hurriedly called the Water Spirits!

Spirit-sans! Help us!

Only one Water Spirit appeared.

“Makoto-sama!” (Momo)

While my attention was taken by Abel, a giant monster had passed by my side.

“Momo?!” (Makoto)

By the time I noticed, Momo had been captured in the claws of a griffon.

The griffon was steadily going higher and higher.

“Eh?” (Makoto)

My head couldn’t keep up with what happened for a second there.

Hero Abel who seems as if he would be skewered after a few seconds, and the little girl Momo who was taken away.

‘If Hero Abel dies, the world ends.’

The voice of Althena-sama resonates in my head.

I had no time to think.

“[Dragon Claw].” (Makoto)

I clad the mana of the Water Spirit into the dagger’s blade, and shot it to the Skeleton Knight and Wyvern.

The monster gets cut to pieces.

By the time I hurriedly turned around, the griffon who took Momo away was already a spec far in the sky.

“Heroes! If you treasure the life of this one, come to the Demon Lord Castle!!”

“Makoto-samaaa!!” (Momo)

I somehow managed to pick up those words with Eavesdrop.

After that, Volkh-san and Julietta-san managed to make the monsters retreat.

Hero Abel was still silent and with a gloom expression as always.

We managed to fight off the monsters, but no one was looking cheerful.

“What should we do, Julietta?” (Volkh)

“Isn’t it obvious? We have to save Momo-chan!” (Julietta)

Julietta-san answered immediately to the question of Volkh.

Looks like they intend to head to the Demon Lord Castle.

These people…are Heroes to the very marrow of their bones.

But if we were to go back to the Demon Lord Castle, the trouble of saving them would be wasted.

“You three, head back to the base, please.” (Makoto)

“Eh? What about Momo-chan?!” (Julietta)

“What are you saying, Makoto-dono?!” (Volkh)

The 3 Heroes made surprised expressions at my words.

…Abel’s expression warped slightly at this.

“Even if you were to return to the Demon Lord Castle without any proper weapons and armor, you would just be walking to your deaths, you know?” (Makoto)

“““……”””

The 3 have tattered plain clothes and were barehanded.

They couldn’t say anything back to me.

“I will catch up to you guys later. The base is at the upper floor of Laberintos, right?” (Makoto)

“Eh?! Only we will go back to the base?! What will you be doing, Makoto-kun?!” (Julietta)

Julietta-san’s eyes opened wide.

Isn’t that obvious?

“I will go to the Demon Lord Castle to save Momo.” (Makoto)

  • Just like someone said earlier, I thought Johnny Walker was the Wood Country hero? Either history has already been changed or something is different. Abel is coming across as a wuss at this point. Let's get to work. Thanks, Reigokai.

    • Johnny is not someone with hero skills. We've been told that every hero has died except Abel by the time he vanquished Iblis. He's recognized as a hero of Spring Log though, just like how Makoto is recognized as water hero despite having none of the hero skill.

    • Was Johnny ever called the wood hero? I don't remember that happening, I thought that (in the normal history) cain killed every hero other than abel but johnny was never a hero and lived to the end

    • That's probably me. If he really is the Wood Country Hero, then that'd have to be later once there's actually a Wood Country to make him hero. Also remember that Wood Country Hero is not the same thing as Wood Hero. The former is someone acknowledged as hero by the Wood Country, the latter is someone who has the Wood Hero skill. That Julietta is the Wood Hero doesn't rule out Johnny being the Wood Country (or Spring Log) Hero, but does put the possibility of him being the Wood Hero into question.

  • I'm sorry Reigokai I've failed you, I couldn't wait for translation and binged MTL raws. This WN is so engaging, back when I didn't cared about this WN I always felt kinda salty because there were more releases of this than Tsuki, but now I need my daily fix because I start having withdrawal symptons. Now said this without encouragement to spoil I'm just amazed how many people theories almost nail it every time (like 90%) of course taking account the amount of forshadowing some conclusions are logical.

    TY for the Chapter Reigokai!

    • I am amazed too that no one in the comments theorize that theory....anyways the future chapters will be exciting

      • @Crowz

Im guessing that plot twist. But if they theorize it. It would obvious that it was a spoiler cus, no concrete evidence in past chapters can support it😂

    • just by typing this comment you are spoiling...
      BONK GO TO SPOILER JAIL
also i too have read mtl so i know what you're spoiling, and you're being somewhat rude even if you don't notice...

      • Their comment didn't spoil anything?! I too have read ahead, and can't see what you're seemingly talking about from their comment. Not by any stretch at all. If I can't see it, then someone who hasn't read ahead certainly can't.

Are you somehow mentally mixing up this comment and another? That or you're loosing it... Nothing else makes sense.

        • That's cause I have erased the part that's a spoiler. The message in itself was pretty nice, so I left it there.

  • Thank you kami-sama.

Everyone missed something. Wasn't wood hero suppose to be Johnny. Or was he just an adventurer?

    • Johnny wasn't the Wood Hero. He was just a person who could use spirit magic. Remember they said that only Abel was a hero and all the rest got killed by Cain.

      • But he was indeed called a hero. But rather than Wind Tree Hero or Wood Hero, he's Spring Log Hero. Read back to the chapter where Makoto met Great Sage with Lucy on his first visit to Highland. The one where Makoto finds out that Lucy is descended from Johnny. Great Sage herself called him Spring Log Hero. He's probably more like Spring Log's first national hero rather than someone with a Hero skill at least. Nomenclatures get confusing when you have to account for the two possible meanings of hero.

  • Cheers for the chapter and all your hard work!

*sigh* whats up with this cheesy damsel in distress plot? Makoto the guy who has continuously protected most of his harem and stomped flat even demigods is blindsided by a griffin? To top that off they target a little girl? Yeah i know its a comon trope, but this just feels a little bit much. XD

    • This specific case of damsel in distress is pretty interesting in regards to the plot. You'll see in a chapter or 2 what I mean but there are a couple nuances to it that you might miss on your first read. Once we get to that point I could go through my views on it if you want, just post a comment on the chapter with the result and I can reply to it.
We don't want to be spoiler boys after all.

    • It's cheesy because it's overused, it's overused for a reason. Really the way to see it, is as a brilliant (if possibly accidental) move from the demons; to use chess terms, it's a fork that's also a check. They attacked, and could conceivably kill, Abel. At the same time, they make an effort to capture the little girl that is visibly incapable of fighting, thus logically someone protected. If Makoto had access to more spirits, the move is a bust, but since he hadn't, he's forced to choose.

    • There's a loli down there, with at least one hero trying to protect her, that's definitely a weakness of the heroes. On the other hand Makoto hasn't been sleeping the whole time he's been near the Demon castle, because he doesn't want to get ambushed, and that's at least a couple days to memorize all the guard schedules.

  • So is this where she becomes a vampire? Also I am not looking for answers just expressing my thoughts.

  • My mind's telling me that the holy maiden is the one that's killed. Also is it just me or is other hero names rarely told in present day?

    • If the holy maiden was the one that got killed, then Highland's Royal Family should be gone after the Demon killed her the moment Abel's statue was changed. This is assuming that the Royal Family's claim is legit, not fake.

      • @tacos1
They claimed that they are descendants of the Holy Maiden as per chap 80.

“The Highland royal family are the descendants of the Holy Maiden Anna-sama. The Sun Goddess Church has inherited the post of the Holy Maiden Anna-sama for generations.” (Leonard)

At least they claimed to be. I honesty think this is a bull tho and the coffin in Great Sage's house is her.

      • Didn't they say that someone else from Anna's family became the royal family of Highland because of that rule the humans made up about how oracles need to remain pure? I could've sworn they said that at one point.

Well I also don't think Anna is dead either.

    • Is was the fire hero if you remember in the last chapters Makoto was reading the book and it was written that The fire hero and Abel were from the same village and they were very close.

    • Because they were said to be wiped out. Only Abel remained so not surprising to see that his name is the one that’s famous.

  • Hmm, could be that Abel was really the savior but after a change in history and that a beloved of her died he lost his spirit? But considering that he was called Lightning Hero is possible that Makoto really is the Savior and Abel was later added in the history the skill of Light Hero so the things matched with the Sun Magic that Makoto now obtained? And the thing about only one spirit, is because of influence from the gods of the demon lord side or what?

    • Yes, that's exactly the theory I'm abiding for now. Makoto as the real saviour, but Abel was the name that lived on. Thus the story of disappearing actually referred to Makoto rather than Abel (that might have just spent his days lazying around). The only odd thing about that theory is the Holy Gods not knowing about it. Let's see how the story actually goes.

As for the single spirit appearing, Makoto said he had being using Spirit Magic nonstop, so that should be the cause. In fact, spirit magic should be stronger in this period (like it was when he froze the demons).

    • Considering that Makoto said Abel possess both lightning and light skill, maybe he still not awakened to it since the sky is covered by black clouds. It's like a device without battery. Hope Makoto will do something to the clouds.

      • Or perhaps Althena hasn't finished synthesizing the Skill yet? They did say it takes 1000 years for a Skill on the level of Light Hero to be made, and with the Holy Gods' power being at their lowest point, maybe it's taking more time.

      • Oh, that's a interesting point, but if Abel have the skill still should appear in the book... but, there was the reaction of Momo, so is possible that here don't exist the Soul Books to know the status and one know that they have a certain skill for practice, but because of no sun he can't use it, is a really good theory, also very possible.

    • Not likely, Althena likes pretty boys (that's who she gives her Light Hero skill to), and what's prettier than an emo boy that learns to smile one day? Just have to wait for Makoto to bring his confidence back, or kick his ass, so that his record of beating Lightning Heroes stays unchallenged.

      • Well, yeah, but is really strange that considering Light Hero is a much more rare and powerful skill than Lightning Hero, he didn't called Abel the Light Hero. We know that he is pretty, but from what Makoto said is more like the type of the little brother of Sofia, the type of attractive guy that have more of a "femenine beauty", very different to Sakurai, he still have the Lightning Hero skill so maybe is pretty enough to attrac Althena but not enough to reah the super ideal zone of Althena like Sakurai, like he is a 8/10 and Sakurai is a 100/10 in the eyes of Althena, something like that is what I can imagine.

        • Think Geralt, but instead of turning into a loud asshole when Sakurai ntr him, he instead turn into a neet, or goes out trying to get hit by truck, so he can isekai to a better life. He's Lightning Hero only right now, he needs to get his hopes back to get good looking enough for Althena to notice him, right now he's just as gloomy as the attractive people the demons decorate their castles with.

          • Well, if that's the case they said that Abel is normally much bright and friendly, but because of the death of someone recently he is now gloomy.

      • Not their power reserves, they get bored if you ask them for stuff too often. So only one was willing to still show up.

    • The reason why he wasn't able to call more spirits is more likely as he said, because he was tired. He was able to call a lot of them a few chapters ago when he just got to the past.

        • I know, that's confusing. They are lending him power, he is asking for it and they give it. So why has only 1 spirit answered to his request? What he has to do is control it, at most he can limit how much mana he gets from them. What does his physical state have to do with asking the spirits for help? That's a bit confusing and i don't remember this being explained before (maybe i missed it though)

      • Well, yeah, normally I would thought like that, but because it was kinda unexpected to Makoto is that I think it could be another reason, but well, is Makoto so that kind of reason is understable.

        • Well, it is Makoto we're talking about, other than his insane magic proficiency, he is pretty weak when it comes to fighting. This made me realize that I still don't really understand how asking the spirits for help actually works... Since it is just asking them for help. He seemed pretty confident when he said that the reason why just one appeared is because he's tired. So he can't be tired when he's actually just asking for help? I would have thought that the fact that he's tired would just affect his control over magic. I'm confused now. I don't even know what i'm saying anymore...

          • That also confused me, it even lead me to think that he used his own power instead of the spirits, normally with the spirits is something more like when using them to much the spirits don't want to respond more, they are tired or something like that, after all we know they are whimsical and don't like to be ordered so it was understable that he couldn't abuse using them always, but with him saying that he is tired is more strange, I'm also confused my brother.

    • According to the history Abel's beloved should be Saint Anna and if she died it would be bad for Makoto's mission. Well nobody mentioned anything about his beloved though so it could be someone else

      • Well, if Anna really was the one killed then that might be the reason Julietta and Volkh didn't mention her. You know, consideration for the guy who just lost his childhood sweetheart. Of course, that leaves the problem of "but what about the Highland Royalty?"

That said, if it wasn't Anna who was killed, then the utter lack of mention is glaring in a different way. For one thing, they really should at least know of their comrade-in-arms' childhood sweetheart. And since there shouldn't be a reason to keep it secret, they should know she's Althena's Oracle too, that kind of skill is conspicuous. And yet she doesn't get mentioned at all when Makoto said he got an oracle from Althena?

      • Is not Anna the closest person we know he had it was de fire hero but we don't know who exactly was the fire hero.

      • Yes, I also thought that could be Anna, but for the sake of history in general let's assume it was someone else like a familiar, for example.

      • I don't think it was Anna since Abel never married anyone according to the stories and just disappeared.

  • Thanks for the chapter!

Oh here we go again, the Prince saving the trapped (yet to be legal) Princess

    Good luck, Makoto!
Or rather, good luck to anyone who's going to face Makoto xD

    • Luckily there's no fbi in another world so makoto can just keep a loli.
Anyway this a question that bugging me, why there's always a loli heroine in every manga story? Or just japan loves a loli?

      • There isn't one in every manga. And having non heroine loli characters is like walking through a store that has one of the limited items you want but is not for purchase. Like sure there are a lot of manga with loli chars but if they're just there and don't do anything it's pretty much proof of the author being a shithead in purpose.

      • Because Japan. That's why.

Considering Momo could make the 2+ meter jump Makoto couldn't, she might already be a vampire. That might let her survive in the demon lord castle for a while.

Not to mention she somehow survived the event Makoto rescued her from to be able to meet makoto in the future. (unless this is one of those wierd loop things and he could meet her bc he saved her.....my head hurts)

        • If Momo is the Greatsage-sama that is probably the answer. Remember the skills are given from birth even if u don't use it so if Momo is the Sage her stats could already be higher than Makoto because it's an advanced class?

But then again you could say why a Sage class would have better physical abilities...I would say you're right

      • If she's a loli, then she's almost guaranteed to be clean of disease, and the stink of other men. Liking lolis is just the logical extreme of a bad view of women.

    • You gotta be careful with that, if you look into it, none of those princesses are ever legal. Hell, one of Mario's princesses may or may not have been his future niece from an alternate timeline, that was both older than the universe, and not set to be born at all for another dozen years.
