“Sun Hero Alex…my little brother, do you want him as your subordinate?” (Althena)
Althena-sama asked me something outrageous.
The Sun Hero Alexander and son of the God King.
He defeated the Light Hero Sakurai-kun in one hit, so his battle power is not lacking at all but…
“No…I’m okay.” (Makoto)
He took the life of Sa-san -regardless of having recovered them- and also treated Furiae-san terribly.
He was also the reason why I died temporarily, so I don’t feel like letting him into my party.
“…I see.” (Althena)
Althena-sama made a slightly disappointed expression.
At that moment, my vision grew hazy.
“Makoto, time up.” (Noah)
“Got it. Sorry for worrying you, Noah-sama. Althena-sama, Eir-sama, Ira-sama, thanks for telling me a lot of things.” (Makoto)
I kneeled, and lowered my head.
“Takatsuki Makoto, if you are troubled by anything, push everything to Ira.” (Althena)
“Ugh…” (Ira)
“O-Okay.” (Makoto)
The merciless words of Althena-sama made Ira-sama drop her head.
“See ya~, Mako-kun.” (Eir)
Eir-sama had her usual smile.
“…”
Noah-sama…had a face as if she wanted to say something, and it bothered me a bit.
Eventually, my consciousness cut off.
◇Lucy POV◇
I woke up.
The sunlight was coming in from the window.
…Overslept, huh.
Yesterday I practically didn’t sleep and was training all the time, but Makoto has come back to life, so I was relieved and relaxed…
Well, fine.
(Let’s go see the face of Makoto!)
I leave my bed, fix my hair in front of the mirror, and wash my face.
After that, I entered the room of Makoto silently.
“Wait, he isn’t here?!” (Lucy)
Makoto’s bed was empty.
Geez, he must be training.
I sighed and went down the stairs.
“~~~♪~~~♪”
I could hear cheerful humming from the kitchen.
The nice scent of freshly made bread wafted around.
I could hear the sound of stirring soup, and the sound of ham being cooked on the frying pan.
The one in the kitchen is a girl in a pink apron.
“Aya, good morning!” (Lucy)
“Good morning, Lu-chan!” (Aya)
My friend turned around with a big smile on her face.
We have reserved this whole inn, and we ourselves are the ones making the food.
Aya apparently found that more fun.
“Have you seen Makoto?” (Lucy)
“He said he would be training in the garden.” (Aya)
“He should just rest… You seem to be in a good mood, Aya.” (Lucy)
I can’t believe she is that same person that was crying all the time.
Well, I was in a pretty similar state, so I can’t really say much about her.
“Nfufu~, Takatsuki-kun told me ‘you don’t need to push yourself. I will protect you, Sa-san’. Kyaa~♪.” (Aya)
“I-I see.” (Lucy)
Oh my, that man..he says quite the cool stuff.
Wonder if he can say something to me too.
“That’s why I told him ‘let’s be together forever, okay? That we would never be apart even in death!’. And then he said ‘Okay’.” (Aya)
Aya smiling so brightly is cute.
It is cute, but…is it just me who thinks that her words are heavy?
“Food will be ready soon, so please go call Takatsuki-kun and Fu-chan~.” (Aya)
“Got it.” (Lucy)
I tried going out to the garden, but I noticed the shadow of someone.
The Moon Oracle Furi was sitting on the sofa of the dining room spaced out.
Ah, that’s not it.
She is not the Moon Oracle anymore, but a Holy Maiden, right?
She doesn’t look that different, but I feel like she is giving off a divine aura.
The most beautiful woman in the world is currently…looking as if her soul has been taken away.
“Good morning, Furi.” (Lucy)
“?!! Mage-san?!” (Furiae)
She directed her gaze here as if she had returned to her senses.
“Are you okay?” (Lucy)
“Yeah… Yesterday was so packed…I was a bit overwhelmed.” (Furiae)
“True…” (Lucy)
That can’t be helped.
A few days ago, the Sun Hero had come aiming for Furi.
Makoto fought him off, but he disappeared together with him…and died.
Everyone in the party including me had fallen into despair, and then, Makoto was resurrected.
Then, Furi turned from Moon Oracle to Holy Maiden.
It was a series of shocking events one after the other.
“Aya said food is almost ready.” (Lucy)
“Thanks… I am not hungry, but I will eat.” (Furiae)
“That’s right, you should eat! Stamina is the foundation of an adventurer after all! But you will be making a country from now on, right, Furi? You won’t be able to go adventuring anymore?” (Lucy)
“I don’t know…” (Furiae)
Her sighing looked so alluring.
Muh, it makes even a girl like me skip a beat.
“Furi, I will go call Makoto. Want to come with me?” (Lucy)
“?! M-My Knight?!” (Furiae)
She made a complete change from just now and had a bright red face.
I didn’t say anything weird though.
“Even though he should be in the recovery stage…he is already training. Let’s go scold him about not pushing himself.” (Lucy)
Saying this, I tried to pull the hand of Furi.
“W-Wait! Wait a minute, Mage-san! My heart isn’t ready yet!” (Furiae)
“…We are just going to the garden to call Makoto though?” (Lucy)
“I-I will refrain!” (Furiae)
“Is that so?” (Lucy)
It can’t be helped, so I decide to go on my own.
I open the backdoor and go outside.
At that time, I looked back to Furi.
“I-Is my face red…?” (Furiae)
The Holy Maiden Furi was touching her own flushed cheeks and her low mutter reached my ears.
(Aah, she fell…)
I sighed as I headed to the garden.
◇◇
A small river was flowing at the back of the house.
Makoto was sitting cross-legged in front of it with his back facing this way.
I walked my way to Makoto.
“Makoto~! Breakfast is—” (Lucy)
I waved my hand and called him, but ‘something’ passed in front of me.
(Oh…?)
It was a blue fish.
It was as big as the nail of a pinky finger.
It is really really small.
It was sparkling as it swam with a school of fish in midair.
Fish made from water magic.
The user of this magic must be Makoto without doubt.
But there was something that bothered me.
“Wow… Even though it is this small, the scales and the fins are recreated as well. Also, it moves as if it were alive…” (Lucy)
Several hundred magic fishes were elegantly passing by in front of me while making complicated moves.
“Eh…?” (Lucy)
Something passed by in front of me again.
Several hundred water magic butterflies.
Those butterflies with transparent wings were making complicated moves as if they were alive too.
At that moment, I felt slight mana from overhead.
It wasn’t attack magic.
It is small mana that wouldn’t hurt anyone.
However, there was a ton…a whole ton…of this mana. What is it?
I look up at the sky.
(W-What’s that?!)
Small creatures made from water magic enough to cover the sky were freely flying around.
Each and every one of them were made in an elaborate and precise manner.
When I tried to touch one of those to see what would happen, it disappeared.
When someone like me who has a lot of fire magic mana touches the water spells of Makoto, I end up breaking them.
That’s why this is Makoto’s magic.
These several tens of thousands of water spells were all being controlled by Makoto.
These creatures that were created from water magic were sparkling with the light of the sun.
It was so beautiful it felt illusory.
However, I as a mage was plain terrified by the amount of spells that broke every manner of common sense.
I return my gaze to my sweetheart Makoto as if I were looking at something fearsome.
He was playing with the black cat Tsui, looking like he was having fun.
Even though he is controlling this amount of spells, what’s with that face as if this were nothing…?
Impossible…
What’s going on?
I walk as I pass through the flock of water magic creatures Makoto created and reach his side.
“Good morning, Makoto!” (Lucy)
“Good morning, Lucy.” (Makoto)
Looks like he already knew I was here.
Even though I spoke to him from the back, he wasn’t showing signs of being surprised.
“Hey…this is your magic, right, Makoto?” (Lucy)
I point at the small critters that were flying around.
“Yeah. Pretty, right?” (Makoto)
“That’s not what I mean! The numbers! Numbers! What in the world is going on?!” (Lucy)
“I feel like I’m in top shape today.” (Makoto)
“This is weird! Did you get a special Skill or something?!” (Lucy)
“Skill…? No, Althena-sama and Ira-sama didn’t say anything though…” (Makoto)
“Althena-sama? Ira-sama?” (Lucy)
The Goddesses that gave off fearsome pressure and we met just the other day.
Even just remembering it was making my body shake…
“Well, Ira-sama is an airhead, so there’s the chance that she might have forgotten to tell me. Ira-sama is clumsy, and Althena-sama seemed like an unexpectedly good person.” (Makoto)
“Y-You shouldn’t talk like that about the Goddesses!” (Lucy)
What a scary thing to say!
If a believer were to hear that, it would be terrible!
“It is okay. Althena-sama and Ira-sama are kind. I should check my Soul Book just in case though…” (Makoto)
“Why are you so familiar with the Goddesses…” (Lucy)
While we were having that talk, Makoto opened his Soul Book, and I hugged him from the back and peeked at it.
It doesn’t seem like he has any new Skills.
“It hasn’t changed, right?” (Makoto)
“Hmm, yeah…” (Lucy)
I gave a sweeping glance at the Soul Book, and noticed…
“………..Eh?” (Lucy)
My eyes opened wide.
“Lucy, what’s wrong?” (Makoto)
Makoto’s voice reached my ears, but I couldn’t speak.
This was written there…

Thanks for the chapter!
As expected he rejected Alex. Though it would have been entertaining to see Alex call him master or bro.
Furi-san fell so hard that she can’t even call Makoto now. She’s definitely going to confess within the next chapters.
And wtf is that proficiency! Wouldn’t he see Undine now? He may gotten his Spirit King form sealed but this just compensates for it. I just wonder if this is another limit brought by the Soul Book or if this is the maximum limit.
Regarding the proficiency limit, IIRC it was mentioned last chapter that skills made by the Holy Gods are also made to have their proficiency capped at 100 too. Which points to Makoto's Water Magic not being made by the Holy Gods since IIRC he got to the point where he can see spirits before he got Spirit Magic. The artificial capping doesn't seem to be common knowledge though.
Essentially, there are two caps. One is the display cap in the Soul Book, the other is the artificial cap put in each skill by the god making said skill.
No, he was shown spirits first, and then tried to raise his proficiency level, he got depressed about his numbers not changing after 100. Getting Spirit User is what raised his proficiency cap.
Huh, I forgot about the details there. So the Water Magic is probably also bog standard. Though it is kinda strange that getting Spirit Magic lifts the cap on Water Magic proficiency. Is proficiency shared between skills or something?
From what I remember, Noah explained that normally you start getting into Spirit Magic around 200 Proficiency, but the Holy Gods keep the Soul Books from showing any higher levels after reaching 100. Spirit User is a different skill all together though, judging by what the Goddesses were saying, it probably just made it easier for him to skip some steps, like being able to see spirits before he can use them.
Hmm, more to the point, it's that last chapter Ira said that the Holy Gods took care to give the skills they make a proficiency capped out at 100. I took that to mean that they actually make a second layer of limitation (the first being limiting the Soul Book's display). Which would then beg the question of "how does anyone at all gain Spirit Magic?" If it requires an unreachable 200 proficiency.
Spirit Magic is indeed its own skill, so basically to use Spirit Magic you need enough proficiency in the appropriate magic and the Spirit Magic skill. So really, the question is how does it actually work?
- Skills given by the Holy Gods have a limit on proficiency of 100 on top of the Soul Book's display limit discouraging further training.
- You need proficiency of around 105 (IIRC) to even see spirits, meaning that according to the above point, this is literally impossible.
- Makoto can see spirit..., but it was after Noah's intervention. Does she really only removed the display cap to keep Makoto from getting discouraged? Meaning that somehow, Makoto did start with an uncapped proficiency? Or is it that Spirit Magic let's him bypass that since Spirit Magic was explicitly referred to not have upper limit on proficiency? How does the proficiency work between Water Magic and Spirit Magic?
So many questions....
I think when she removed the limit on his book he was already over 105, and still couldn't see spirits. He could maybe feel them, but at first was only capable of using them by using the spirit language to force them to cast spells.
As for the cap on skills made by the Holy God's, I think magic was already around, and they were referring to specific skills handed out only by the gods, like Light Hero. So the best they could do to discourage anyone from becoming a spirit weapon, was to keep the people from knowing that they can continue leveling beyond 100.
By "I think magic was already around" you mean magic skills were all pre-made? Why exactly would they be any different though? I imagine the Water Magic (Saint) that Eir keep dangling in front of Makoto would also have the built-in cap.
Unless the goddesses were talking ambiguously again I guess. And that not all skills are god-made. Which would explain the need for the double layered safety measure. The big skills are god-made and can be capped as they are made, the weak ones (like Makoto's) are innate and thus inherently uncapped and discouraged by the display limit instead, something like that?
I mean made by previous gods, Titans or others. That's why they can be handed out, but they couldn't be capped, just change the displayed power.
Hmm, the way it was worded makes it sound like magic skills are like equipments that can't get passed down though. Basically the way it was worded implied that the reason there has been no Light Hero in the past thousand years is because it took that long to make, for one.
Basically, I'm saying that if all skills are like that, then there should be new Water Magic (Novice) made by the Holy Gods, that can then be capped. And yet Makoto's Water Magic draws that into question. If nothing else, I don't think anything is preventing the Holy Gods from keeping the Titan Gods' version of skill from going around at all, at least excepting people like Makoto who can gain such skill directly. A matter of conflicting informations essentially.
He has a Water Magic skill, that's very low level, which keeps his mana low, and should have prevented him from learning any advanced spells, but proficiency is about the level of effort you've put into practicing your skills. It takes a long time to put together a high powered skill, Light Hero makes sunlight into your power-source, Fire Hero turns heat into combat power. These are cheat level skills that were granted by a holy God, and have some kind of cap, to keep them from being used against the Holy Gods. Sakurai has weaknesses, and there was a limit to the power he gained with a solar laser shining down on him.
But, as we know, proficiency is the gate to Spirit Magic, which the Holy Gods do their level best to keep away from people. If they can cap the actual proficiency gain and not just the display cap, why do they not cap the proficiency gain of every skill they make? Again, Light Hero takes a long time to make, but it's not the only skill made by a god, it was said just before this that all skills are god-made. There could certainly be older version skills running around, but how did they get passed down at all? At least Spirit Magic not having a proficiency cap ending up in Makoto's hand is clearly because it was made by Noah and handed to him directly as a divine favor. It doesn't explain how Makoto could get his Water Magic proficiency to 105 at all before that, unless the one he has wasn't made by the Holy Gods, which then brings up the question of who made and gave it? There's also the question of how does the elves even have access to Spirit Magic at all given the explanations up there so there's that. Also all the skills Makoto and other can gain through training too, I suppose.
Also, I think you got the relationship between Skills and Stats backwards. Makoto has too low stats, which is why he can't have high ranked skills. It's why way earlier I questioned Eir's baiting Makoto with Water Magic (Saint). Sure she can probably give it to him, but can Makoto even use it? If anything, it'll probably actually cap his proficiency to the point that he won't ever be able to use Spirit Magic, because that skill would have been Eir's handmade, thus proficiency capped.
No he has Water Magic: Apprentice keeping his mana low, and keeping him from casting any high level spells on his own, that's why Eir can tempt him with that Saint ranked magic skill. Magic itself seems to be inherent, and can probably be trained up, but the magic skills handed out by the gods are like talents, they give you a base level in an element of magic. Makoto also has low physical stats, but that's another thing.
Remember that Rosalie told him that he should be able to use Fire Spirits too.
Hmm, is there really anywhere that say that the higher ranked magic skill actually increases mana capacity? I do know that Sakurai's stats being something like ten times a normal person's seem to have something to do with the Light Hero skill, but nothing has been otherwise stated. Of course, nothing is really stopping Eir from giving Makoto a pimped-out skill either.
Because for Makoto's low mana capacity? It's really in line with his other shit-stats I can't really believe it is the only one caused by the skill instead of all of them caused by an underlying condition. That is, an underlying condition causes all (rather than just some) of his stats to be shot to hell, which then limits the skills he can have. It's a simpler explanation.
Who said anything about a limit, this could just be what he's currently at
He’ll probably do. Ira was offering him another skill already back then. In the fight against the Great Demon King, he might have to accept that
Can't help but wish Makoto would be able to pick up another element at some point. It likely wont happen as it would make him even more broken then he already is.
The Holy goddesses limited normal soul books to proficiency 99. Noah likely just increased Makoto's book display by 1 digit. Remember, Noah said there's no actual limit. It's just there to make mortals believe there is a limit.
