Tsuki – Chapter 327: Raid of the Appraisal Team

“Appraisal?”

Regarding the matter of our false rumors coming from the Dusk Street, we have decided to steadily bring them out and buy some time to see what happens.

In other words, it has been wrapped up.

And yet, it looks like there’s new problems coming out from the woodwork as if natural.

It has been around 3 days since the Weitz Orphanage was built from the ground up. It is now after dinner.

In the report of Tomoe and Shiki, there was the word ‘Appraisal’ under the category of strange movements.

“What’s that-ja, Shiki? In Rotsgard, too?” (Tomoe)

“…To think it would be the same in Tsige. Is this a coincidence?” (Shiki)

Shiki and Tomoe were surprised as well.

When talking about appraisals in this world, it isn’t the kind of appraisal of knowledge and experience.

It is a Skill that exposes the abilities, origins, and nature of the goods. Just that, different from the Appraisal Skill and Items of games, it is not as all-powerful.

By the way, all of us can use it to a certain extent. In my case, I can do it with [Sakai].

Yeah, I can’t use the Skill itself.

Cause the Appraisal Skill is special in the way that adventurers who have reached a certain class learn as they gain experience.

There’s no detailed way of obtaining it, but it is a pretty important and rare Skill, and owners of it are pretty proud of it.

For example; Shiki can get detailed information with an Appraisal from things like medicines and monsters, but when it comes to weapons and foodstuff, he only gets rough results.

Mio can obtain pretty detailed information on ingredient related stuff, but when it comes to construction materials, minerals, equipment, and miscellaneous goods for daily life, it turns into an extremely tragic result.

There was one time when we had Mio appraise a whole bunch of cheap long swords in a barrel for sale, and an amusing appraisal result came out that said ‘Unappetizing, I want at least a hundred’ which completely ignored their actual function.

‘If it tastes bad, I want quantity’, is basically what it was saying.

When I looked at Mio with a deadpan expression, Mio’s cheeks were red in embarrassment.

In Asora, only Sari can use it…no, Tamaki can too.

In other words, all my followers, and the demon Sari can use it.

It seems like it is based on the person’s own subjective opinion, experiences, and knowledge, so I feel bad for putting it this way, but the reliability of the Appraisal is completely different depending on the person’s track record and job.

That’s why we didn’t feel much danger towards the Appraisal Skill.

“It seems they are gathering people with the Appraisal Skill to sniff out the origins of our goods.” (Shiki)

“From Tsige’s side, it is a parting gift from Rio. I would say it is around the area of ‘if our relationship fails, trouble him a bit’.” (Tomoe)

Even though Rio is gone.

But that’s possible.

He isn’t the type to give up, or be upright anyways.

It might also be because the Anti-Goddess Cult blew up the heritage of Rio before running away.

But to think even in Rotsgard it is happening.

I thought our friendship meter was pretty high over there.

Did the timings overlap unluckily because of me?

“Then, there’s no real need to do much for the Tsige one. The products from Asora can’t be pinpointed accurately with Appraisal, right?” (Makoto)

I don’t think even a specialist in Appraisal could be able to tell the place of origin.

We have tested with the adventurers that have come to the Mirage Town, but there hasn’t been a case where they have been able to properly appraise the ceramics and ingredients.

The only information it shows is a bit about the taste and the material properties.

“…Right. It depends on the people Rio has gathered, but it most likely won’t show up that it originates from Asora. If it shows up, it would be as Mirage Town Origin…or Parallel World Origin?” (Tomoe)

I see.

From their point of view, Japan is a parallel world after all.

Even so, things from Asora won’t show up as originating from Japan. Even with my Sakai, it doesn’t show up as Asora Origin.

It shows as Made in Kaleneon.

Sakai and Appraisal are different, so it doesn’t serve much as reference though.

In the past, it showed Made in the Border of the World.

It probably changes here and there depending on the tie of Asora to this world, or like, where the print of it was left.

“About the adventurer test…” (Makoto)

“From the ones that went to Mirage Town and were made to use Appraisal, only one showed up as Mirage Town Origin. The remaining ones had ‘unknown’.” (Tomoe)

“Right. It doesn’t show the environments it can grow in either, right?” (Makoto)

“It seems they can only appraise if it is edible, and its taste. The one who managed to appraise it as Mirage Town apparently had some weird text in it, but well, it isn’t a problem.” (Tomoe)

“Text?” (Makoto)

“It was like filling in the blank spaces with generic stuff. To summarize it, it was something like: ‘If you want to get more skilled, you should eat this’.” (Tomoe)

That sounds like the text of a bonus item in an RPG.

But at the time when I used Sakai to check them all, there was no such stuff showing up.

What does that mean?

“By the way, what was the food appraised?” (Makoto)

“Dried persimmons.” (Tomoe)

“Do you have them right now?” (Makoto)

“Of course. I hide some for pastries after all.” (Tomoe)

“…You really love it. At first, you said it was a waste of time to air them, and Komoe and you were against it.” (Makoto)

“If you had said it was astringent persimmons, we wouldn’t have complained.” (Tomoe)

“And yet, you seem to be experimenting ways to make sweets and other stuff with the astringent persimmons.” (Makoto)

“…Cause they are a delicacy-ja. Muuh.” (Tomoe)

Even if Tomoe tries to say it cutely, Tomoe is still Tomoe, huh.

“I am fine with that. The koshu persimmon is like the representative of the astringent persimmons. Airing them and making them into dried persimmons is a natural practice. In Asora, those koshu persimmons for some reason have some that are sweet persimmons, so we have to check them individually at times though.” (Makoto)

I thought the kaki persimmons were astringent, and the fuyu persimmon and jiro persimmon are sweet, so we ended up getting tricked quite a lot in Asora.

Persimmons were the first thing I checked the nature of with Sakai.

It is a nostalgic memory.

Tomoe and Komoe coming to give me their reports about astringent persimmons with their tongues out and a bitter expression was a pretty fun experience too.

I was wondering why the first thing they did was eat it.

For people, astringent persimmons are closely treated as poisonous.

While I was relishing those past memories, Mio came with dried persimmons.

I use [Sakai] to imitate appraisal.

“Hmm, there’s no such weird text in mine. ‘An aired persimmon. It has been dried well’… Hm? Made in Mirage Town? That’s strange. Last time I checked, it was ‘Originated from Kaleneon’.” (Makoto)

By the way, the first [Sakai] said Originated in Wasteland.

“Probably because it has been processed. The dried persimmons were made here after all. About the text, it is most likely because the ingredients of Asora have effects on the body. I tried it out with fruits before, and it is true that it increases certain abilities.” (Shiki)

An understandable explanation from Shiki.

I see.

I also recognize this place as the Mirage Town. I do see it as Asora as well, but how to tell the difference between them?

Also, the food experiments.

We tried it out with Jin and the others, and it does increase their abilities.

In that case, persimmons increase abilities particularly well.

That appraiser must have been quite the skilled one.

But with just plain text like that as information, there shouldn’t be that many people who would believe it.

It will probably be washed away as an unlikely possibility.

“I see, that does sound plausible.” (Makoto)

“It is quite the ambiguous Skill even among Skills after all. Unless there’s matching information by several people, the credibility of it is low. It doesn’t seem there’s a need to worry, Waka.” (Tomoe)

“In Tsige, that is. Even if it said it is from the Mirage Town, they would just go ‘I see’ and just accept it.” (Makoto)

“If we are asked the route we used to acquire it?” (Tomoe)

“Of course, we will say that we used money to become their intermediaries.” (Makoto)

“Right.” (Tomoe)

I feel like I was taking a test here.

Tomoe’s satisfied expression at that is pretty amusing.

“I think the Rotsgard case is just a vain struggle from a minority of the teachers. That said, Izumo is going to be returning to the Academy soon, so I would like you to come to the lectures to pump some spirit into the students, Waka-sama.” (Shiki)

I see, Izumo is coming back, huh.

I do have an interesting construction video.

Also, according to Shiki, Jin and the others are working hard.

I consulted with Shiki and we decided to have them train their juniors, and it seems like it has progressed in a favorable direction.

I guess I will pass the matter of the Goddess’s Apostles to Rembrandt-san and the others for now, and head to the Rotsgard Academy.

Our store there has newcomers that have lower teamwork than in Tsige, so I want to check out how they are doing too.

“Shiki, Waka-sama is working on a lot of things, you know? And yet, you are telling him to come to Rotsgard just for the minuscule growth of the chicks? Is that what you are saying?” (Mio)

Shiki told me he wanted me to come to Rotsgard, even when in the presence of Tomoe and Mio.

Mio doesn’t seem to find this agreeable at all.

She is pretty much speaking out her true feelings here.

However, saying that I have worked a whole lot from just moving a bit here and there makes my back feel itchy. It is not like I have done any big job or anything!

I know Mio has no ill-intent at all.

I can easily imagine her doing something similar to a wife scolding someone saying ‘my husband is a really hard working man!’.

Yeah, let’s work a bit at the Academy.

“T-That’s by no means what I meant!” (Shiki)

“Right. I have been absent from the Academy for quite a long time. Zara-san has been adjusting for us quite a lot too, so let’s go to the Academy. Are there any issues with going tomorrow?” (Makoto)

“Of course not! The next lecture plans and reports of their current state are already prepared.” (Shiki)

“Uuh…Waka-sama, don’t push yourself.” (Mio)

“I will be eating and sleeping here at night as always. It won’t be as different as usual. I will be leaving the investigation of the war and the matters of the company to you two though.” (Makoto)

“Yes, leave it to us!” (Mio)

“Count on us.” (Tomoe)

In that case…

Shiki said it is okay to go there tomorrow, but I should read the documents a little bit, especially the ones about the new students.

I will do that after eating, and I will probably be done by the time I have to take a bath.

I may have said all that, but I am looking forward to it.

From what I have heard, it seems like Daena has become interesting.

What has become of that guy with a wife and a child, I wonder?

  1. his company is already growing, why not cut off the mist town completely from outside so it won’t invites troubles like this.
or make it looks like it appears once in a 3 years rotation.

  2. Its too bad Tamaki cant become a comrade in the group but tbf she is a gift of the gods. Even if they are from the friendly ones, one can never be too careful – and she is Asora’s ultimate trump card after all.

  3. Tomoe and Mio want to make sure their husbando comes home on time. So they can have their nightly dessert with him. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    1. Yeah have to suspend your disbelief a bit. It’s hard to accept that the system behind skills is being sustained by either the Goddess or Root.

I just think of RPG like “skills” as a magical/physical law governing their world.

  4. I can imagine Mio’s highly useful appraisal skills…
    Sword – edible
    Brick – edible
    Human -lvl 200 -edible

    1. I think Human level 6 or even 8 hundred would be edible, for her. Maybe even HIGHER. She did say her compatibility in *combat* against Azu-san was high

  5. For now, Raidou thinks of “guy with a wife and child” from an outside perspective. In wonder how he’ll change once he’s the one with “wives and children” heh, especially considering that even Tomoe is basically prepping for it.

  6. Huh!? Eh?? I caught up??….. But why??? I just started reading just last week QAQ.

    Thanks for the chapter desu

    1. Lucky you. We had to wait two years for a new update for the main plot before because the author took a hiatus. Even extras were scarce! Now you just need to wait every three days for the translation to catch up. That’s not even including the many more extras that has yet to be translated and the fact the author is updating either the main or extra every other day. Lucky, lucky you!

Now with that said, welcome new comrade! How did you discover this novel?

  7. thanks for the chapter

    “Uuh…Waka-sama, don’t push yourself.” (Mio)

“I will be eating and sleeping here at night as always. It won’t be as different as usual. I will be leaving the investigation of the war and the matters of the company to you two though.” (Makoto)

mio , dont tell me makoto and u still do r18 stuff every night . im speechless.

    1. Don’t forget to include Tomoe in there, and that they go pretty much all nigth long, Makopto sure is making up for lost time, I am sure his parent won’t even find it weird that he went this route, heck they migth even give him pointers.

      1. I am sure they would be surprised about sheer length of it. Not even mentioning fact about true form of his wives.
I only wonder when both of them will finally ask for break or more help though.

      2. >I can see his dad with a proud smile saying ‘Thats my boy’!!!!!!!
I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Extra 4 was really kind of sad.

        1. Are you perhaps refering to ‘the demon incursion’ (lets avoid the N word for some sensibilities) episode? Well that was more that 20 years ago, for them it must be ancient history, heck he probably more that tryied to make that episode up in the bedroom with the mother, by now there is no inch of that body he doesn’t know in manny different positions and ligths of the day.

      3. Yes.
I still must admit it’s kind of amazing, how Makoto’s entire destiny/life became so FUBAR after this.

  8. Appraisal could get ugly later.

I wonder how Daena changed and what are his plans for future.
    >Inb4 Another meatshield for “Heroine”.

    1. Well, actually, it’s called “Extra 31: Asora’s currency was born in this way,” but you get the idea.

  9. I completely forgot about Sari.
I think Sari has not yet a perspective chapter.
Its interesting what she thought about the Asora and her feeling of not contacting anyone in anyway or no options at all.
Its a complete isolated place after all.
I want to know her perspective about the progress of the town, their management skill, about her impression of the dwarves gundam project, about Makoto is a King after all and he manage an actual country rather than a simple company.
    Can’t wait to read one…

    1. we have… it was when she came first to asora… but after that there’s not another new perspective :v perhaps in the future of extra story

    2. Huh. I meant to reply, but it seems like I made a new comment instead. I don’t know how to delete it, so I’ll just ignore it for the time being.

There is no “perspective” chapter, but the bonus chapter “Extra 31: Asora’s currency was born in this way,” is in her perceptive and states a lot about her opinions of Asora.

  10. Thanks for the chapter, good I am curious about the first gen. of disciples improvement, and the new batch wondering what their opinion of Makoto would be after a couple of class with him.

  11. From what i understand mirage town is a isolated part of asora, which is described here as a parallel world, so even if you know that mirage town is connected to
Kuzunoha you would still be operating on the false assumption that the town exists in your world. Sending an army or a team to invade can be turned to makoto´s advantage, it allows him to trap and deal with the people that are trying to undermine him. But i honestly think he should stop pretending to be a meek merchant and show everyone the devil side of him otherwise he will be constantly be dealing with these people interference. He tried to be loved and that is not working super well so he might want to add some fear into it. Plus all the major leaders know how powerful he is so its just the general people that lack that information,so there is very little to lose.

  12. Are you sure it’s a good idea to leave Bug’s apostles to Rembrandt? They should be probably around as strong as a Superior Dragon and Rembrandt is just a normal hyuman.

I guess I can see what they’re trying to do. They’re gathering all these people with Appraisal to either find out the location of Mist Town from one appraisal or compile information from multiple appraisals in hopes of narrowing down or pinpointing its exact location. It’s pretty moot though. Appraisal just gives information that entirely depends on how knowledgeable the person is. Even if they do find out that the stuff comes from Mist Town and Asora, so what? It’s a parallel word so they can’t just randomly invade. All Makoto needs to do is shut down the mist gates and that’s it. The only one that could potentially still get in is Bug and she’s stupid as hell. Plus multiple gods have safeguarded Asora so she can’t find it or get in and as has been shown, no other god likes her so she can’t go look for some kind of god that would be willing to help her. The only one that might have helped -MIGHT- was the gate-god-thingy and it is currently a guinea pig for Shiki to study and can’t do anything anymore after the beating it got.

    1. and even if she try to forced her way through, the otherworld god will give her a bigger punishment and might as well strip her authority as a god

      1. Seriously? That’s fantastic! But try to hold off on spoiling us. I know the raws exist but a lot of us are waiting for the English translation to catch up. Please don’t spoil the events for the rest of the readers.

  13. Thanks for the chapter~

Author-sama definitely wouldn’t talk about the appraisal raid without a reason.

Here is my theory: Makoto is currently selling his wares to the Demon Kingdom, so…I think someone’s might get the appraisal “A favorite in the Demon Kingdom.” That would, officially, be bad.

Of course, I’m just spitballing ideas here.

  14. I like how much introspection and thought goes into everything. Instead of “the company built a new orphanage from scratch” we have “the orphanage owners have this in mind and these preconceptions about construction approaches, while we want to make something good. We also have to consider public perception.” The magical aspect then comes in with the crab and fantastical building method as well as relatively deep views from the spectators and supporting cast. Everything is given though in just the right amount and many things are taken into consideration. There is a concerted effort as far as I can tell to show how the MC is invested in this world in how much consideration different things have. None of that “we have one really smart tactician who foresees every problem and mc just blows things up”. The last chapter showed this with Lime who was introduced as an “action first” kind of guy, but we see the things he considers behind the scenes and not only him. We are told, in exactly the right amount and with enough embellishment, why things are the way they are. There are CONSEQUENCES to actions. Not just major ones. The issue of sourcing food from Asora could have been vastly simplified under a different author, but we have had several chapters on this. I am happy this came off hiatus when it did.

  15. Basically, I’m interested in finding out whether or not he achieves his goals. This chapter was vanilla to me. I know you have to progress in steps and everything, so the action doesn’t happen in all chapters. Just don’t slow the pace down too far. Thanks for the chapter.

  16. I don’t think the group should take this appraisal gathering so lightly, but I wonder what will the results be if they manage to find something of pierce together something more concrete? Is it anything to worry over and if so what’s the possible threat level? I’d say it depends on who they relay this information to and whether that person is capable of opening the gate.

By the way, has any of you find yourself asking at some point “why do I like this novel?” I’m not sure about you guys but judging from the various reviews and comments for both the manga adaptation and the light novel, it’s a case of you either like it or hate it. For myself the story grabbed my interest with its non-formulaic approach to an isekai story. The fact our protagonist isn’t an Otaku or a non-functioning member of society, how little fan service or harem tropes there was, the dialogue in general didn’t feel cookie cutter but instead genuine conversations, and the portrayal of Makoto’s character isn’t anything I’ve seen done before (at least in light novels). Although what kept me reading is the dynamic chemistry between Makoto and his three initial followers. But what about you guys? What grabbed your interest and why do you continue reading?

    1. hmm… for me its because its the first webnovel that i read that throw me down into the rabbit hole of ‘webnovel reading’
and perhaps also the chemistry and how he really act like a teenager do when they unknowingly send to otherworld with really low knowledge of what the world they’re coming too
      that just IMHO tho

    2. The first web novel I read in English that I read so eagerly than I progression enough to in an english country and do my stuff (as long the accent is not extreme…)
What make love and stay is how much character feels human, the have there own agenda, perception and personality, and there actions and decisions have consequences, not just for Makoto but every characters we followers. Compared to other novels, the characters from others novels feel like NPC, main characters included sometimes…
There is also curiosity to know where Makoto will go and how he will grow, Because he is his own person through and through, and because he move forward as he own pace, I can predict what will happen, which is for the best.

      1. You nailed it! This is exactly why I felt this story was above average compare to most isekai, even the more famous ones. Conversations, events, and inner thoughts aren’t isolated. They affect some part in some way and that creates a web. This is why I feel it is “genuine”.

    3. I read the WN’s of every isekai or fantasy manga I read if there is one available. My first was Tensei Slime, then Solo Levelling, then Tsuki ga Michibiku, I believe. I don’t really like dropping titles and Tsuki has a good story so I’m still reading here.

    4. i reason i like this novel is because he is not that much of anime otaku but edo otaku lol. atleast he has common sense unlike other isekai protagonist.
and he is not harem protagonist, doesnt try starting flags , well he did choose both tomoe and mio. dont know whether it counts or not. and he is not nuub in fighting ROFL.
well i don’t know what to say anymore but i will keep on reading this

  17. Hmm. I’m (likely not accurately) envisioning a large scale hyuman joint hero cooperation expedition into the wasteland to find Myst Town to enlist their help in fighting the Demons. After they learn that the stuff from there is more advanced than their stuff, they might try to go find the source. A Quest for the Holy Grail kinda venture.

    1. and in there…. they shall meet the Asora version of KILLER RABBIT OF CAERBANNOG…. KOMOE-HIME-CHAMA !

  18. thank for the update.

Hm…rather than just finding someone with expertise, are they trying to brute force the exact nature of the town by getting as much point of view as possible, then compilling the data together? Just one piece of data isn’t definitely enough, but if you having multiple people working on multiple item, and like Makoto said that item would give out different result base on where it was made, you’re bound to find some sort of pattern…

Hm…could it be compare and constract instead to steal the technique? Could be, TBH, since appraisal could have that kind of power.

    1. It seems the author is getting the story more deeply involved with the skill system. I feel like introducing the Appraisal skill was done a bit too late into the story, but I’m not dissatisfied or anything. I also wonder just how different Waka-sama’s Sakai is when compared to the Appraisal Skills in general.

      That aside…

The soil of Asora tasted far better than the cheap, disposable swords.

  19. My bet would be on Hibiki trying to pin-point this secret base of Makoto hahahaha if only she knew they can read memories xD

  20. Thanks for the double chapters !!
Hooo Rembrandt dealing with Alte Baret huh.. Izumo returning to Rotsgard, the first gen of Makoto’s reunited. Bit curious to Danae development.

  21. Hmm…
    thank for this new chapter.

Mio and tomoe are just acting as how they are usually haha.

hmm… even if they do snuff out the source of the goods?
    what can those dudes do?
do they think that they can become a merchant of those goods instead?

Is it only me who felt that the hyumans are too naive…

  22. Thank you very much for the hard work!

Not sure what to say about Appraisal but… who wants to bet that it isn’t going to be all cheerful and easily brushed under the rug?

Oooh we get to see more Rotsgard and more students! Plus it seems the focus may be on Daena next! Definitely want to see how he has developed and become “interesting” he always had the smallest parts before and didn’t get much focus. Hope to have more side character fleshing out.

Plus was that a flag for more war stuff yet to come?

    1. I think the appraisal is bad. It will pin point thier location sooner or latter. Especiallg now that there are adventurer that knows the rough location of it being they can go there many times.

      1. I thought visiting adventurers were still coming through a mist gate, so they can close the current gate or move it so that the Mist Village’s would appear or not basically at random. Also depends if the weather is in sync could make Mist Village seem to be anywhere in the world.

      2. It would eventually yeah and it could be troublesome… if the place did exist on the wasteland that is, if anything they could make it so people think that it is somehow related to Kaneleon and shift things that way, create a “Portal” “connecting both Kaneleon and the wasteland and boom only really smart people would be able to figure that there is something else
