Tsuki – Chapter 301: Pseudo Hanten and Black Hakama

TLN: Hey guys, Reigokai here!

Tsuki is back, and it came strong this time! 3 chapters and 1 extra! I will obviously be translating them all, with the main chapters as priority.

The chapters will be coming every 3 days, but this might not always be the case. Tsuki has desceptively long chapters sometimes.

Anyways, enjoy!

Izumo and Iroha were in seiza, lined up and welcoming the guests.

The two of them were wearing black hakamas, and the figure of the man with his back straight gave a different atmosphere from his usual self.

The figure of Izumo, that was different from the other day when they had overcome a situation of literal life-or-death, was making his comrades that were called here confused, including Jin.

“Thank you for coming here, everyone.” (Izumo)

“My gratitude-no desu.” (Iroha)

They took a seat as told in this room where tatamis were spread out, but because Jin and the group are not used to the etiquette of sitting directly on the floor, they were unable to relax.

Izumo and Iroha bowed deeply towards them.

“…Aah, I told you to stop those kinds of things.” (Jin)

“Really.” (Daena)

Jin and Daena had wry smiles.

Everyone could tell that their thanks was not simply for the fact that they all came here today.

In terms of time alone, they don’t really know each other for that long.

But the denseness of it is different.

The dense time and experiences these young people passed together in the academy has tied a firm bond with them, who have the same teacher, not only as classmates, but as comrades.

That’s why the others also responded to this with their attitude instead of words except for those two.

“Maybe because I have returned to Lorel, I wanted to put it out properly. This may sound bad after lowering my head and giving my thanks but, I already knew the answer.” (Izumo)

Izumo made a soft smile like the times when he was in the academy.

“Izumo-sama!” (Iroha)

Iroha blushed at that smile of his, but also puffs her cheeks and reprimands those words.

Wry smiles of a different hue were now showing in everyone’s face.

Just one of them, Amelia, was looking at Iroha as if with envy, as if she were too dazzling, but no one saw it.

“…So, what’s your business? We may not be as busy as you guys are, but we also have our fair share of things.” (Misura)

“It seems like you will be staying here for a while longer, Izumo-kun, but we are going to be returning with Shiki-sensei today, so please keep it brief!” (Yuno)

Misura and Yuno were strangely in sync as they urged Izumo to say what he wanted.

Izumo may have a bright tone, but they could tell from his atmosphere that the proposal of Izumo won’t be a nice one.

They could feel a farewell.

Izumo won’t be staying with them anymore at the Academy Town.

He is now by the side of Princess Iroha.

The Princess of the Osakabe household that holds Kannaoi and its surroundings.

And also his fiance.

“It is okay. I will be returning to the Academy.” (Izumo)

“!”

That was the response of Izumo that Jin and the others were wishing for.

“For now, that is.” (Izumo)

“…”

But it seems like that wasn’t the whole response.

Izumo looked straight into the eyes of his comrades, and voiced out his resolve without any hesitation.

As if responding to the many emotions that were showing in their eyes.

“In these few days, I have clearly understood where my place is. It is in the Lorel Union, and at the side of Iroha.” (Izumo)

“…”

“How should I live, what do I want to do, for me…for the person called Izumo Ikusabe, those were the worries that were always swirling in his mind. There was no moment in my life where I didn’t feel as if I was living for the sake of a plan for someone else. I am honestly pretty embarrassed to confess everything here, so I am going to abridge it.” (Izumo)

“You are abridging that part?” (Sif)

Sif retorted in a low tone, and Izumo brushes it off with a laugh.

“I am in front of my best comrades and my beloved after all. Speaking everything about the revolution that occurred inside of me is impossible. Just that, I have found an answer. I was able to decide my own way of living. The things I myself wanted to do yet couldn’t find have suddenly sprung out, and a whole many at that.” (Izumo)

“Does it have to do with you referring to yourself as ore <informal way of saying I>.” (Amelia)

He nods at what Amelia points out. After that night, Izumo has stopped calling himself as boku <semi-formal way of saying I>.

“That’s one part of it. Also, maybe join the family of the Osakabe and crush the Ikusabe, or learn about the constructions of Kannaoi and Rotsgard.” (Izumo)

“You are saying quite the dangerous stuff as if nothing, oi.” (Jin)

“Compared to Sensei, this stuff ain’t nothing. And most of all…” (Izumo)

Jin picks on the part about him trying to crush his family, but Izumo not only didn’t deny it, he responded as if that wasn’t a big deal.

He didn’t try to play it around either. He showed that he was once again positive about what he said and…

“From hereafter, I have decided I definitely won’t pull any punches when you guys need any assistance. I now understand from the bottom of my heart the dirt old saying that is widely known in Lorel.” (Izumo)

“…In Lorel, there’s the way of thinking that men are supposed to live, not for their own sake, but for the sake of others. It is in that way, that there’s worth in living.” (Iroha)

After Izumo finished speaking, he placed his fists on the tatami and lowered his head deeply.

Iroha must have felt that Izumo’s words were lacking, so she explained to Jin and the others about the dirt old saying of Lorel.

But it is heavy.

They could tell plenty well that they are fully serious, but it is obvious that everyone uniformly was slightly taken aback by this.

“Well, all of that said…” (Izumo)

Izumo raises his head only, and directs a smile at Jin and the others.

“I will prioritize Iroha though.” (Izumo)

“…”

A hard to describe air spreads between the two.

“Then, let’s meet again at the Academy… Iroha.” (Izumo)

Izumo stands up.

“Ah, yes. In this occasion, just as Izumo-sama, I—” (Iroha)

“Princess, there’s no need for all that anymore.” (Izumo)

“And you are the one saying it, Izumo?” (Jin)

Jin was amazed. But at the same time, everyone had a smile on their face.

“That’s right, Izumo-sama! It is not about it being fine!” (Iroha)

“Then, Jin, everyone, take care on your way back.” (Izumo)

“We are teleporting together with Shiki-san, so there’s nothing to be careful about though.”

“Ah, right.” (Izumo)

“…Come back quickly, okay?”

“I know.” (Izumo)

The maids enter the room after seeing that Jin and his group would be leaving now, so that they could guide them. And after one last casual talk, he leaves together with Iroha.

Izumo felt nostalgic from the feeling of walking on the wooden floor with his tabis, and it also served to tighten his resolve.

But well, that’s not the only thing that’s tightening his resolve, and the state of Iroha that was completely different from her expression fitting her age of a few moments ago also suggested that.

“Princess, I am sorry that you have to accompany me in such matters as this. I wanted them to see how I was when I am with you, and also to have you see how I am when I am with them.” (Izumo)

“The best comrades of Izumo-sama are also my best comrades-na no desu. Friends-na no desu. It was incredibly fun. Thank you very much, Izumo-sama.” (Iroha)

“…Well then, let’s go.” (Izumo)

“Yes, together.” (Iroha)

“Of course.” (Izumo)

At the place where the two walk towards, there’s Haruka waiting for them in a white outfit.

The cleansed Ein-Khalif was waiting too.

The convicted one is waiting.

Even so…

The two that are walking side by side don’t falter.

Their steps were steadfast.

Izumo and Iroha walked forward to the place where they should be standing.

◇◇◆◆◇◇◆◆◇◇◆◆◇◇◆◆

The big cheers reached all the way here.

The head of one woman fell.

A public execution where many watched.

The words execution and cheers were not mixing well inside me.

In the past, public executions were an amusement for the people, is what I think I heard somewhere before. Experiencing and seeing it myself, it feels really weird.

Death is just an end.

What do people find amusement in death?

I was watching the execution from a pretty far away distance.

Together with Tomoe.

“Fumu, Izumo, was it? That brat has done quite the bold thing.” (Tomoe)

Tomoe seems to be reminiscing with a smile the moment of the beheading that happened around 1 kilometer from here.

It is true that the Izumo of a few days ago wouldn’t have been able to do this, in terms of technique and in terms of decisiveness.

He showed technique sufficient enough that it wouldn’t be strange for Tomoe to remember his name.

…This growth of his does give validity to the words of Shiki about the growth of the students that he spoke about.

That alone won’t make me agree about this intrusion of them, so I should have a talk with Shiki about this lecture matter too…

“Written as bold, read as refined; something like that? According to your tone.” (Makoto)

“Well, yeah, something like that. I like those types.” (Tomoe)

A thin but fearsomely sharp wind wrapped around the blade of Ein-Khalif that Iroha-chan swung down which was made in an instance of less than a second.

It was the magic of Izumo who was wearing a black hakama like Iroha-chan.

There’s no doubt that the people there all believe that Iroha-chan was the one who cut off the head of Haruka-san.

Aside from Izumo himself, Iroha-chan, and Ein-Khalif.

This may be a bit rude, but that was a feat that Izumo shouldn’t have been able to pull off yet.

In other words, he stopped Iroha-chan from being the one to kill her mother.

But…that was…

It was most like his way of telling Iroha-chan ‘I want to shoulder the same sin, so please let me endow my magic into it’.

I don’t think she would have wanted to have Izumo do it in her stead.

In any case, it is that kind of contrived situation.

They have truly changed.

Haruka-san might have noticed… In her last moments, she had that kind of peaceful expression, so it can’t be helped that I think in this way.

Even so, even if it was for the sake of his fiance, for Izumo to do such an action that only holds risks and nothing to gain for himself; I am impressed that he has been able to change so much in not three days, but a single night.

“I see, don’t meddle with them too much, okay? By the way, did you see what came out from Haruka-san’s body?” (Makoto)

“…So you could see it too, Waka. Maybe it is the effects of having gone to the world of the dead? I think it is most likely a part of her soul.” (Tomoe)

“Figures. More accurately speaking, her spirit that had fused with the Wise’s power, probably.” (Makoto)

Each of them gave color to it and glittered. It drifted around Haruka-san’s corpse, and then it sunk into the ground.

“I think so as well. It sunk into the ground, and probably arrived at the place where Futsu is. It will most likely be rebirthed into a person who has good affinity.” (Tomoe)

“I have finally gone to the afterlife. I would have preferred to go to Japan though.” (Makoto)

Is Japan even rarer than the world of the dead?

Aah, modern Japan feels so hopelessly far.

Because Lorel somewhat reminds me of it, it makes me miss it even more.

“…”

“Tomoe?” (Makoto)

“Ah, it is nothing. I was just thinking that I would one day want to go to Edo too.” (Tomoe)

“…Modern Japan, I hope.” (Makoto)

If I were to bring her to Nikko or Uzumasa, I feel like she would go wild in joy. I also like those kinds of things, but I don’t think I would last the day.

If we are to go to those places, there’s a whole lot of other places I would like to go too.

…Right, someday.

I want to bring Tomoe there.

“Ooh! Now that I think about it, Shiki seems to have taken the students and returned to Rotsgard a step faster! The time to leave this country is approaching!” (Tomoe)

Jin and the others didn’t see Izumo acting as the executioner. Neither did Shiki.

It seems Izumo wished for it to be that way.

…Honestly speaking, I don’t really understand the subtleties in those kinds of areas.

Just what kind of resolve did he have.

I am not in a position to know about them, but I wondered a little bit.

Though, what’s more important right now is…there’s something I have to retort to.

“Hey, Tomoe.” (Makoto)

“Did that sound a bit too forced?” (Tomoe)

“No, first of all, what’s with that outfit of yours? I was waiting to see when to say this, but I can’t endure anymore.” (Makoto)

Tomoe is wearing something on top of her usual rough kimono that draws the eye.

No, it fits her.

It fits her to a scary extent.

It has a silk fabric lustre, and extravagant embroidery.

Moreover, it even has lining packed closely.

Well, when talking about outfits, Izumo and Iroha-chan’s black color hakama were also questionable

It doesn’t seem like they had any particular crest on them, so maybe that’s the uniform for executioners.

“There’s a number of things that I found in Lorel and fell in love with at first glance, and this is one of the highest ones! For now, I bought a black and white one, and a red and blue one. I will bring this to the Eldwas and Gorgons in Asora, and…gufuh.” (Tomoe)

“…How to say it, it feels like I have found another hidden like of yours.” (Makoto)

She went ‘gufuh’.

“For some reason, you look like you are baffled, but I will be having one made for your use too, Waka, and it will be made with full effort. Also, it isn’t an unknown thing, right? It seemed like you already knew the existence of this, Waka.” (Tomoe)

Only its existence and its name, that is.

It is like the ancestor of the sukajan. <A jacket that has flashy embroidery on the back>.

Sukajan

I haven’t seen the actual thing before, but honestly speaking, even if this were the actual thing, I wouldn’t want it.

What Tomoe is wearing, no, has put on is made from plenty of gold and silver threads with black as the base.

“At least make one for winter use and is extremely toned down in the flashiness…” (Makoto)

Lately, I have learned which moments are the ones I can’t run away from.

This is one of those.

At worst, Tomoe will make me wear it even if she has to go as far as to push me down.

Then, the only thing I can do is reduce the damage to a minimum.

“To think they would show so much passion and put so much money into something. It is no doubt the idea of a genius.” (Tomoe)

Tomoe brushes her shoulder and is seriously moved.

You probably already know what it is.

A pseudo hanten.

Hanten

Pretty close to it at that.

An ascending dragon, a spider, some sort of leaf, a weapon, a magic effect, also an Oni or a monster?

Anyways, it is chaos.

It seems like the first point she liked was that there’s a serpentine dragon that has been embroidered gallantly into it.

It is a weird design that even showa delinquents would hesitate in wearing, and yet, here she is so happy.

If I were to point this out carelessly, I might end up getting a repeat of her heated fervent speech, so I do my best to refrain from doing it.

She told me she had some business, so let’s meet at the rendezvous point.

You would normally nod at that, right?

Who would have thought that she would wear a pseudo hanten outdoors?

I sometimes can’t understand the sense of Tomoe.

Aah, please, let it not get popular in Asora.

Please, have none of the races get their heart moved by it.

I was somewhat seriously thinking this on my way back.

  1. Tomoki better die painfully. I will accept nothing but death from that mf. I dont care if the world collapses, that mf is the devil in sheep’s clothing.

  2. Sad ending to a bad taste in my mouth arc. Was the only outcome in this situation. I just hope that in some way the empire gets punished for this mess. Especially that trash male hero. I don’t even bother writing his name. lol Also i won’t let one arc i didn’t like at all, cloud how i feel about the overall rating for this story. Just will be an arc i file away under forgetting about it. Probably when i re read this story some day again. I will just skip this one. lol

    1. I doubt the empire will be punished for this. Just like USA gets away with everything because of their influence, the empire gets away with all the trouble they cause because they are in the frontlines against the demons. Military wise, the empire is much more powerful than lorel. Lorel also cant use makoto since they already know that makoto doesnt take sides and would prefer to watch them go to war and burn by themselves. Makoto also cant directly intervene with the heroes due to the contract with the goddess. Some readers say that makoto can just beat the goddess, but they dont understand a thing about the novel. The othet Gods warned makoto that even if he have a chance to defeat the goddess, they warned him that she is still a goddess of creation.

    1. No clue, i personally would cut off ties with that country. And wouldn’t even help them anymore. Might even declare war on them, once the war with the demons is finished. But who knows when that will be solved either at this point.

    2. That would be an act of war between nations in a time when they need to maintain some measure of unity against he demons. It would also foster more division and doubt within Lorel itself – as the people directly responsible would be seen as evading justice. Admitting to the people that your core government functionaries can slaughter the people and then escape retribution would undermine any trust the people had towards you.

And the government already has substantial trust issues – as noted with the taxation problem. Compounding that would be inviting civil war, on top of war with the Empire, on top of war with the demons.

Just because we as readers are privileged to have sufficient knowledge to accept the truth does not mean the people would accept such statements as “the devil made me do it, but I got bettah!” Nor would it do anything to alleviate the fear of recurrence.

  3. Damn I am not good at dealing with these kind of situations RIP Haruka-san hope trashmoki gets a torturous death

  4. Trashmoki you really are courting death huh?

I feel like “Trashmoki” is not enough of an insult to his name.
We have Hibaka and Hibitchi but we only have Trashmoki, any ideas guys?

    1. Cahnging Tomoki to To屑 (Tokuzu) is an option. Kuzu is japanese for “scum,” “loser,” “piece of trash,” and “garbage”, so it fits his personality.

  5. Lately, I have learned which moments are the ones I can’t run away from.
    This is one of those.

This is the white flag of the family man. Makoto has been conquered.

  6. Good chap. Good closure to this tragedy. It’s unfortunate that Haruka got caught by Tomoki’s charm despite her many abilities. It is fortunate that she could recover her senses for the remainder of her life and sacrifice herself for her daughter’s sake the way she wanted, knowing that Izumo will care for Iroha.

  7. Honestly its really give me a bitter feeling to what happend to Haruka but its an understand able result considering Haruka resolve

  8. Honestly its really give me a bitter feeling to what happend to Haruka but its an understand able result considering Haruka resolve

  9. Bitter but realistic ending.

Some things just can’t be resolved perfectly. Haruka would’ve just suffered endlessly if she continued living, and Iroha had resolved to do what her mother wanted and what was expected of her.

Makoto would’ve had no place to interfere since all involved parties were fully committed to following through with this.

    1. It just so force feel hurried unnatural is what I want to say in this plot And the part where u say he can’t interfere is B.S ok? He and his company save the whole Union Literally he has that much said if he want to but Makoto is just being Makoto and what about that Getsuga guy he also the mastermind and most things happen cuz of him

      1. I mean sure, he could’ve just brute forced his way through and forced everyone involved to drop the execution.

But then what? He would’ve then had to follow up on his decision to force an outcome that no one else but him wanted, something he would’ve likely needed to bear for a very long time considering how strongly resolved the involved people were.

    2. It’d actually be pretty easy and straight forward to have fixed this. The author just really doesn’t want to.

      3 easy steps:
      1) Use the extremely prominent memory manipulation abilities of Root, Tomoe, and Shiki to purge the reasons she wants to kill herself from her memory. Seriously, this is easy compared to erasing Futsu’s existence or resetting Sophia.

      2) Expose Tomoki as the culprit and get Lorel to demand compensation from the empire.

      3) ‘have a talk’ with Tomoki and until he’s agreeable to the concept of publicly accepting fault and paying the compensation.

      1. And who said our MC has time for all this when Tsige is still in trouble. Sometimes you choose not to involve yourself in certain things not because you can’t involve yourself in them but because you have better things doing or you just don’t want to get yourself into things that do not concern you.

        1. “not because you can’t involve yourself”

That’s my point though. People keep saying Makoto “can’t” do things when the reality is just that he won’t. If he really wanted to, he could easily change the direction he’s putting his efforts. He’s not going to, but he totally could.

          1. I’ve been in a situation where I helped someone more than I needed to, but now I know to just do what is needed and not to go around being the good Samaritan

  10. This was a disappointing ending for me. I know it’s one ending, but I just think they couldve done better.

  11. What about that Pione? Really? She will be settled offcam? Her role is even more major than Haruka and yet that character who was the reason of it all can’t even show up? Damn, she really turned into a disposable character.

    1. Hey! She had like 10 lines dedicated to her and an entire small scale war! Thats almost like Helen of Troy….kinda?

  12. Thank you thank you thank you… I’m so glad I waited for a pile of chapters to be turned out, it just makes me so much happier to delve deepLy…

And so, it had come to be, the pseudo hanten became the ceremonial wear of a lords right hand. Worn in times of great import and seriousness.

I can so see that becoming a legend according to Tomoe… lol

  13. so Haruka died… leaving bad aftertaste, she didn’t deserve it so I hope someone revenge her, oh well RIP!
and apparently, no hate is directed toward Tomoki, maybe the cause isn’t out to the public yet

“Is Japan even rarer than the world of the dead?” LOL!

    thanks for the chapter!

  14. daaang I was sure this was finished cuz it’s been nearly 5 years since the first chapter so I re-read it but to my surprise it ain’t and it looks like it’s far from it ty for the chappie

  15. Haruka’s death truly was dealt with like a done deal. It’s usually a very emotional moment that most authors would use, but given Makoto’s character, his dry perspective changes the mood of it all. We even had a Yankee clothing history lesson at the end. Well, it’s not like Makoto wasn’t affected by Haruka in some way. I kind of like how her death wasn’t avoided in the end. It’s weird to say, but I don’t feel like her character was wasted despite the short introduction. Probably thanks to Ch. 298… If anything it is tragic but a necessary one for political reasons.

All that aside, Izumo sure has changed the most in this chapter! I’m… not entirely comfortable with a legit teen falling in love with a girl who is still growing. It feels pretty ham fisted. If we could have read some of the contents of the letters between them then maybe I can understand. In any case, the students of Raidou Kuzunoha are definitely going to leave their mark in history in the future! I can see a whole round table discussion with each of them at the helm of some organization or movement while reminiscing together about their days in the academy and the hell that was their “practical exams.”

P.S. The author is on fire lately! Did someone shove a fire cracker in his pillow?

    1. I vaguely recall reading that the author had been dealing with some family health thing for an extended period of time, so they may have a lot pent up.

  16. wait, seriously? they killed off Haruka?? what a waste of strong and influential character! i’m dissapointed, Haruka are way to strong for a one-arc use, she got black-sheeped as the mastermind of this arc mess although its trashmoki doing, this is bullshit

    1. Haruka death really served no purpose, i don’t get why they killed her off while Sofia got a meaningless second chance

      1. You don’t no why? It’s simple really no one gives two fucks about haruka haruka dosent have a strong dragon parent that can revive her people don’t need a specific reason to die that’s just how life is besides if you really want a reason then it’s because someone needed to be held accountable and don’t say trashmoki it’s obvious he’s the instigator of this but he’s practically an enemy someone outside their country so it’s to be expected haruka on the other hand fits the bill not only did she not fulfill her duties She even killed the people she was supposed to protect in the end she wasn’t a perfect scape goat even if she was brainwashed

        1. i’m saying it in term of story telling, not that kind of reasoning, read the other comment, people also dissapointed with this direction that the author took, no one give a fuck about haruka?? i see many reader totally give a fuck about haruka, it’s not about life or death, it’s not about who become accountable, but the reason why author decide to killed off a strong influential character but revive useless character, that’s what people care off

      2. Haruka’s death itself *does* serve a purpose: THIS IS WHAT LOREL’S CULTURE IS LIKE. Lorel may *seem* similar to Japan, but it’s not MODERN Japan, but instead the Japan of 200 years ago where a samurai was *allowed by law* to kill any ordinary peasant or merchant that failed to give them respect. The same civilization that considered hara-kiri *respectable* The same civilization that not only sentenced people to death for being Christians, but did it to the peasants BUT NOT the nobles.

THAT is Lorel, and Haruka is the sort of character that *chose to go along with it.*

  17. Good translation as always regiobro.
But i need to type here nonetheless

I don’t know, like this is isekai, yes i know. The reader is human which is on the same dimension as me, so technically a flaw on this chapter, decision of killing of haruka.

-Someone who brainwashed to be killed is stupid. A people that controlled by magic or curse aint guilty whatever they did.
-Having daughter killing mom is stupid, yes sure. What about the husband of daughter killing of her mother? Is that logic? Even how twisted the world, i prob wouldnt want to stay together, moreover be in love to the one that slayed my parents.
-makoto hesitating helping haruka to keep iroha sanity also bad point. This will lead makoto into messiah route, which will be bland and cliche as his identity as normal japanese gone. Conclusion will be makoto became god or demigod or whatever u say and having his harem.

So long story short, this story became boring and im dropping this. I will just read wm hereafter~

  18. Thanks . It was a heavy chapter but in a wsy unavoidable if haruka will was respected.
I liked the little nod to reincarnation. It leaves a sweet aftertaste.

  19. Hahaha!!!
Well, Mio might be starting to contract a Chuunibyou.
She might be worst that Tomoe if she finds out something like a cosplay somewhere and will procure it and starts manufacturing it with original design, and more worst, a mountain of product for Makoto to fit into.

Tomoe might be like those thing, but she was not that sensitive if others criticize her about it, i think.
Not like Mio, if you criticize her works (which passionately put effort for Makoto), that would be the end of their life…

    1. Mio already built a Power Rangers cosplay suit.

      That coincidentally has… “features”.

So, she’s already had that experience, though it was off-screen.

  20. thank for the chapter dude… is it just me or this chapter relatively short ? i can’t wait for the fall of trashmoki or the goddess :3

  21. Man I came late to this party but oh well I made it. Thanks Regokai as always fro the great translation. Izumo has show remarkabe grown with this, I am glad he took the action he did. Now obviously Tomoe has planned something that she will keep secret from Waka for the time been, so my money is in her smuggling either a revived Haruka or her spirit into Asora. I migth be wrong, but still would be an interesting development.

    1. She’ll probably get yelled at if she does, because I think Makoto came to outright *hate* Haruka. He was *highly* disapproving of her choice to be executed, AND her approval of Iroha doing it, and Haruka *still* wanted it to go that way. Their personalities are NOT compatible. Haruka and Hibiki would get along excellently, as they ultimately have similar perspectives on the world: Haruka’s is bent more towards duty and formality, whereas Hibiki’s is bent more towards elitism, but they seem at heart to have very similar personalities.

Makoto’s personality is the sort to becpome *very* disenchanted with them after any meaningful interactions, as he comes to the conclusion that they place honor & position & such ahead of basic human decency & the like. Hence why Hibiki is fine with the demons being enslaved for thousands of years as long as it doesn’t disrupt society, but Makoto recognizes that the demons have *no good reason* to go along with that same sort of plan. They have completely *incompatible* views on the proper balance between society and the individuals within it.

      1. I agree that she will get yelled at, but I am not sure about Makoto feelings toward Haruka, he migth feel regretfull about hte way things whent for her, and the decitions she took, before talking with her he was just curious about how different they are despite throwing themselves at battlefields. I really don’t see much similarity between her and Hibiki, can you elaborate in how you see it???

  22. Thanks for the chapter Reigokai! Man Harulas death was stupid! The author should have used her to fight Trashmoki and end him then she could die!

  23. I’m a bit disappointed with this character death, it doesn’t follow one of the base ideas in storytelling: the idea that everything serves a purpose. Haruka’s death is a waste of potential and doesn’t serve much of a purpose beyond bringing some characters closer(?) together, which could have been done without the waste of an interesting character.

    1. Haruka may have interested you, but she was also introduced part-way through the arc as a monster-of-the-week. She exists to give a good fight scene in this arc, provide some tension to the arc in general, and to help develop *Tomoki* as a bigger villain that Makoto will have to deal with in the future. Her actual unimportance is also why there’s so little focus on her execution: *Haruka* was never important to the story; beyond the main characters, the important ones are Tomoki (and thus the princess), the guild which I can’t remember the name of, Izumo, and Iroha.

Besides, I can’t see Haruka fulfilling any continuing role other than annoying Makoto, and causing writing difficulties for the author. Have Haruka follow Makoto’s orders? That would be a *different* character, because she’s another take on Habiki, but with a more firey take on her own convictions! Have her just continue living in Lorel? Also a foundationally different character, for the same reason! Earn penance? Only possible by having her throw herself to her death fighting demons, and why should the populace of Lorel trust her to do it even then! Repent? Requires her to become a different character, and it’s not like her *reasons* were actually incorrect!

No, unless the author was going to have Haruka go nuts by just killing everyone that she felt had been causing trouble for Lorel (in which case Makoto would be likely to stop her *again, for the same reason as before*), there was simply no role that Haruka could fulfill by surviving, and her very survival would unavoidably warp the perception of Lorel to always be paranoid and on-guard. Getting rid of the character was the right choice.

      1. Few things:
        1. I said her death was a waste of potential, not that she was a great character
        2. trashmoki wasn’t really the villain in this, it’s the princess
        3. we don’t need trashmoki to have any more reasons to hate trashmoki
        4. Authors have been doing characters that have struggled with what they’ve done when brainwashed for decades
        5. Yes she was introduced as a monster of the week, but so were mio and sophia, both of them were much better as monsters of the week as they had the chance to cause damage to makoto, and haruka had much more personality than mio in her first appearance
        6. There was a much better scapegoat (that was actually responsible for a lot), who I can’t remember the name of, for the execution already set up, he was the person who brought the charm stuff
        7. what tension, makoto has already reached a level where the only threats left are ACTUAL gods and age-old immortals and, just before the raid part of this, tomoe got a resurrection power
        8. also in terms of how her repenting would be out of character, we are talking about the same character who spent her entire time unbrainwashed trying to give laurel a scapegoat by getting herself killed because she wanted to make up for her actions in even the slightest way?
        9. thank you for expressing your opinion

  24. Thanks for the chapter, Reigokai-san!
Huh, guess with Haruka dead… This arc is nearing the end… hope we get to see some real *progress* between Makoto, Tomoe and Mio, i really hope so

Oh and trashmoki need a beating for real this time

  25. Thank you reigokai,
It’s a nice chapter, though i’m quite disappointed that haruka did not end up to be an ally

  26. ” Tomoe will make me wear it even if she has to go as far as to push me down.”
Rather, if she goes so far as to push you down I doubt it will be to put clothes ON to you.

  27. Thanks for the chapter, Reigo-senpai. I’m just glad that the author finally put out some more chapters.

Well… I’m glad the Lorel Union arc has pretty much ended (that’s if the next chapter doesn’t take place there). I don’t know if it was the fact that we’ve been caught up or not, but this felt like the longest arc so far. Now I wanna see Makoto punish Trashmoki for causing a civil war. Seriously, that mother f**ker has gotten way with his antics for far too long. Or course that bug of a goddess doesn’t care, as long as the demons are vanquished she’ll let him get away with anything despite the fact she’s supposed to love the hyumans beyond all other things. But not even she can save him now, Trashmoki is in Makoto’s cross-hairs and nothing will get in his way.

    1. Makoto is still defaulting to Tsukuyomi’s advice of “be kind to the other humans, you all came from the same place, after all” in thanks to his favorite god. Now that Tomoki’s charm has directly annoyed Makoto, things might get spicy.

(would never happen for reasons of story duration and blah blah blah but…)
I kind of want a human summit for the recent generation of isekai’d humans. Like, I want Makoto to get mad one night, teleport to Hibiki’s room, grab her, teleport to Tomoki’s room, grab him, mist gate a house into the middle of the wasteland, and sit all three down for a tense tea (in ceramic saucers) and talk meeting in their pajamas under the full moon. Because he can do that. And, while at it, recreate the environment of Japan, so the heroes can be made to remember the difference between here and there. Because he can do that. Maybe serve bananas to freak them out more.

I don’t think it’d do much more than spook the heroes and be a fun power fantasy chapter, but Makoto is getting pretty close to confident enough to do something big like that soon. Breaking Tsige away from Aion was one of the world changing activities Root guessed Makoto might do; he is making bigger and bigger moves.

      1. Makoto’s been so laissez faire and non critical of Tomoki that I half suspect him of being slightly charmed. Like, remember Makoto’s reaction when he first learned of the charm perfume? Nevermind don’t remember, I found it:

However, it is an incredible idea.
If you are not at his side, the charm will have no effect to begin with, and if you know of its existence, there’s ways to go against it.
Of course, completely shutting it out will depend on a battle of strength though.
It is strong, but in a sense, it is an ability that has its restrictions. That’s how I thought.
But putting the charm ability in a tool and spread it around in that way will dramatically increase the effective range. Moreover, that tool is a perfume. It diffuses around the area like incense.
The compatibility with the charm is quite good.
For the side that tries to prevent it, that’s a lot worse than placing an accessory on the target.
You can’t just stop breathing, and you will have to take in mind the direction of the wind at all times.
In the first place, there’s quite a lot of spells that can control the wind.
That guy…seriously only has brains for the most hopeless stuff.
        I am impressed.

      2. What I forgot to mention that punishing Trashmoki isn’t on the top of Makoto’s to-do list.

However, I see it coming. Even if Makoto actually did what you said, he’d have to do it somewhere in Asora where’s there’s no Mamanos or the Demon Lord’s daughter (I forgot her name because it’s been so long). The Demi Humans would be fine as the other two isekais don’t discriminate against them. But we all know Trashmoki, he’d try to charm the residents of Asora into rebelling against Makoto. He’s that kind of unforgivable asshole. Actually, I think the author did that on purpose to make us hate him more. Even without the Princess’s coaxing, he would’ve ended up this way anyway. Sorry, but not sorry. He went too far this time, even by Makoto’s standards when it came to following Tsukuyomi’s request. My only regret is due to Makoto’s current priorities, it will be a while before he punishes Trashmoki.

As for Hibiki… she’s no longer fully savable. After the demons killed her friend Navarre (I think it was the swordswoman’s name), she swore to crush them despite her naive thinking about how it would’ve been better for the demon’s to lose the war, end up as slaves, and wait for time for them to be accepted into hyuman culture that she used to have. There’s still some hope for her to change, but not enough.

      3. @ Mario Kaiba : Hibiki swore to destroy the demons *because* of her naivete, rather than despite it. The same shallow thinking… or perhaps it’s more of self-righteous arrogance, that prevents here from realizing the foolishness of her “just be slaves” plan also prevents her from seeing the foolishness of being upset at the demons for killing someone that is also trying to kill them. Her mode of thought is the sort that for thousands of years rejects justice because it endangers the same system that self-justifies it’s own injustice.

  28. Thanks for the chapter. You are realy one of the best translater if not the best i know so far those pictures you put helps alot while reading and imagining characters in them.

Talking about chapter it felt a little rushed , i felt nothing when haruka died no emotion from anyone it just happened and thats it. I realy hope that all those things that happened bite trasmoki in the ass in the future.

  29. Thank you very much for the translation

We have a new extra today so they are now 2. The author is with all the energy …

They finally leave lorel. Makoto, seems to be more melancholic than normal. For makoto’s eyes, this growth of izumo and iroha is disappointing and sad, to see how they lose their innocence and purity makes him reject. I already want to see his new posture before his students, something tells me that Makoto is one more step away from catching up with that world, now his interest will be instead of 5% to 3.5%.

Finally, seeing that trahsmoki is not punished is best. When the moment of his absolute fall comes it will be sweeter, if it is the same world of the goddess who destroys him.

    1. I’m pretty sure that Trashmoki paying for this is on Makoto’s to-do list. I mean, it made Makoto actually furious. And if I know Makoto, he’ll wait for the opportunity to get Trashmoki for this. However, Makoto has more important matters to deal with. Like the independence of Tiege for example? Getting into contact with the mercs was the whole reason he FINALLY visited the Lorel Union. So yeah, Tiege is more important than Trashmoki right now.

  30. The author never really introduce haruka husband huh?he really depicted him as weak man since haruka has given up on him and makoto angry with him but who can actually blame him.

  31. Noooo… i wanted Haruka to be part of Makoto’s power…. i cant believe they let Haruka die and Kougetsu live being the mastermind… this sucks…

though i hope the author will continue pumping out those chapter

      1. Well she’s dead now so if Futsu or Tomoe bring her back they can just say that death absolved her. Or they could go the Root route and just brainwash her after reviving her.

  32. Thanks Nepu!

Have you taken your AsaCoco yet?

  33. Thank you for the new chapter.

Absolutely this developement. Izumo finna crush Ikusabe, leggo

    1. I would thinks so too, if that’s not what she left for…although I think its more likely that she did a full mind read, cause I doubt she would give up a chance for true katana training.

    2. Although it seems that Haruka herself doesnt want to be ressurrected. Like she has already accepted everything, sincr she died with a very peaceful expression. And ressurrecting her might give her the feeling of being tied up or in eternal debt. Either that or she will hate them for intervening. It depends on how they handle it after… We’ll see…

    1. Strangely, I remember who is who here. I have a problem in some other stories but not here.

    1. Tomoe is the biggest cause of mayhem. She’s always got some devious plan to relive one of her favorite tv episodes.
But Mio is the crazy one.
A yandere spider. If it has anything to do with someone opposing her beloved. Or messing up her cooking. She’d kill half a country just to find them. While bashfully trying to hide the carnage and debris so Waka doesn’t scold her. 😈🕷☢🔥

  34. Well that fucking sucks. They actually killed Haruka yet the actual guy who is started all this -Kougetsu- is free without any real punishment and his crimes were never revealed to the public. Well all I can hope is that when they mentioned Haruka’s soul going to Futsu that either she or Tomoe will resurrect her and say her crimes have been forgiven before making her join Asora. She is too good a war potential to have her stay dead.

    1. Free and better than before! He died and came back, just like Makoto does every time he meditate-shoots his bow. Kougetsu should have upgraded magic potential now.

      1. lol attentive in the weird spot, you’re right though
might be an exploit if the resurrection has no limitations

      1. Well yes it was his charm that brainwashed everybody but two things: 1) Trashmoki is in a different country so he can’t be brought to Lorel to be punished and 2) While it was Trashmoki’s charm that caused this, it was facilitated by Kougetsu ALLOWING the charm perfume to be brought in.

        1. True. However, it’s Makoto who will personally punish Trashmoki when the time comes. I don’t think Kougetsu will get off scott-free and I’m sure he’ll meet his end by the people of the Lorel union when the time comes as well. Kougetsu is far from innocent, but he was Trashmoki’s pawn in this matter. Well… more like the Empire Princess’s pawn, but she manipulates Trashmoki and Trashmoki loves to “convince” hyumans that he’s an existence close to the bug goddess.

    2. Correction, she was too good a war potential to let die. Even if she comes back by eating a golden apple or something at this point Sairitz is apparently asleep at the wheel letting the execution happen. Now the person who was actively spreading charm pollution’s just going to start up again. Oh well, I guess that’s Saritz’s grand clusterf*ck to sort through now. Maybe we’ll get to pick up some of the dangling Asora plot threads. The door. The shrine. The demons. The war, his guild card. Hm.

      1. I dont think the guy is going to try that anymore. He has already seen that he cannot control Trashmokis zombies and if he allows it to continue he would lose everything. If anything Saritz will have him enslaved so he doesn’t try something stupid.

      2. I wouldn’t be surprised if a certain combat addicted, pig ridding knight and his merry pals don’t pay a visit to Trashmoki and give him another helping of curb-stomp.

    3. Trashmoki are being manipulated by Lily. He is nothing without Lily support (when it’s come to resources, planning and strategies). Both trashmoki and Lily are to be blame alongside kougetsu and haruka. And the princess too I guess.

  35. I was half expecting them to catch that spectre, not to introduce yankee clothing styles…. Will we later find Tomoe with her kimono undone, with dragon tatoos all up her arms and back, like some yakuza?

    1. In the end, anything’s fine if Waka-sama allows it!

For Tomoe, having an oriental dragon imprinted on her clothes seems to suit her.

  36. Oh I have missed the crazy antics of Waka-sama, Tomoe Mio and the gang!

Is this what the call mellowing? Has Waka learned or has it given in to the futility of curbing Tomoe? As for Tomoe, well I bc ant exactly say that the styling doesn’t suit her personality somewhat but isn’t the description of the embroidery paint it as very extravagant? Not that there is anything wrong with extravagant.

Waka-sama, I think you just raised a flag. I sense a new trend about to surge through Asora. Although I do tend to mistakenly flags.

And you Izumo! You are saying some seriously dangerous things there. Waka-sama has corrupted you! This is good!

  37. Thanks for the chapter!!🎉🎉🎉

I always think that this is a side quest and the main story is Tsige’s independence to Aion. After the long wait, it looks like we’ll make progress with the main event.🙏
