WM – Chapter 52: Takatsuki Makoto fights the Taboo Dragons

TLN: Sponsored Chapteeer!!

Damn it, I was looking forward to seeing your reactions when the cliffhanger of the previous chapter hit. Looks like you have been spared!

Enjoy!

[Water Magic: Yamata no Orochi].

I put my everything on this spell that took me seven days of getting along with the Spirits.

Water Monarch Magic: Yamata No Orochi.

A gigantic 8-headed snake that could be mistaken for a mountain appears.

When I look back, there’s Sakurai-kun with an excited expression, Sa-san whose eyes are sparkling, and Yokoyama-san who fell on her butt.

“Hey hey, Takatsuki-kun! This is a snake, right?!” (Aya)

Looks like the lamia Sa-san felt some sort of kinship with it.

…This girl really has changed.

“Spirit-sans, there’s 2 displeasing guys down there. Can you please throw them out of the dungeon?” (Makoto)

*Hiissssssss!*

The Water Orochi raised a cry, and dove right into the darkness of the cave.

This is my first time using it, but the pressure of Monarch Rank Magic is incredible.

I heard that the magic above Superior Rank becomes life-like, but the Orochi feels like it is alive.

Or more like, scary.

I wonder if Lucy will one day use this kind of magic…

If her magic goes awry, I feel like the party would be wiped out.

“Takatsuki-kun! That’s incredible!” (Sakurai)

Sakurai-kun is totally hyped.

“It would be nice if it works though.” (Makoto)

“That’s Monarch Magic?” (Sakurai)

“Yeah. I think it went well for being my first time.” (Makoto)

“Eh?! …Is that so… M-Monarch Rank…?” (Yokoyama)

“Saki-chan, can you stand?” (Aya)

Sa-san helps Yokoyama-san who is sitting on her butt with weak legs.

“Sa-san, can you three regroup with Lucy and the others?” (Makoto)

“Okay but, what about you, Takatsuki-kun?” (Aya)

“I have to control the spell until the Taboo Dragons are brought outside the dungeon.” (Makoto)

“What should I do?” (Sakurai)

Sakurai-kun asks.

Oi oi, what are you saying, Hero-sama?

“I will throw the enemies outside the dungeon, so cut them down.” (Makoto)

“G-Got it.” (Sakurai)

Water Magic may look flashy, but it has low attack power, so even with Monarch  Magic, I don’t think it can defeat the enemy.

“T-Takatsuki-kun!” (Yokoyama)

Yokoyama-san suddenly calls me.

“What’s the matter?” (Makoto)

“Y-Your back!” (Yokoyama)

*Splash!*

A giant splash of water rises and the Yamata Orochi appears once again.

*Kaaaaaaa!*

An ear-piercing cry resonates in the dungeon.

“That’s…a Taboo Dragon?” (Aya)

Sa-san mutters.

I am not confident to call it a dragon. It was like a gigantic white earth worm.

There’s several mouths on its body.

It is currently struggling with the Orochi wrapped around it.

The other dragon has eyes all over its body, and its eyes were moving around restlessly.

It is different from what I imagined.

They called it a fiendish dragon, so I imagined something a bit more grim and sinister.

If I had to describe it…

“What’s that?! Gross!” (Aya)

“Right?” (Makoto)

I agree with Sa-san.

The Taboo Dragon is gross. Gross Dragon.

*Kaaaaaaaaaaaa!*

The Taboo Dragons raise ear-piercing cries that sound like the scratching of glass as they get taken away by the Orochi.

“Now, Sakurai-kun, let’s go.” (Makoto)

“Y-Yeah…” (Sakurai)

The Taboo Dragon is struggling to escape from the coiling of the Orochi.

I control the spell in order to not allow that, and carry them.

“Takatsuki-kun, how are you gonna bring them outside?” (Sakurai)

“There’s a place at the underground lake where there’s a hole. I will bring them all the way there and throw them outside.” (Makoto)

*Kaaaaaaaaaaa!!!*

The Taboo Dragon is raising screams of pain.

That one is the Taboo Dragon with lots of mouths, huh.

“Takatsuki-kun, the Taboo Dragon’s voice has an effect that makes your heart have doubts. Are you okay? Our mages were unable to use magic from that voice.” (Sakurai)

“Is that so.” (Makoto)

It is true that it is a disturbing voice.

But it doesn’t seem like it is to the point of making me unable to use magic.

Probably the effect of Clear Mind.

“It seems like I’m okay.” (Makoto)

“…Our high rank mages were wiped out by that though…” (Sakurai)

Sakurai-kun said this amazed.

“Then, does the guy there with a whole lot of eyes have a bad effect as well?” (Makoto)

“Yeah, you apparently get hit with charm magic when you meet eyes with it. Are you okay?” (Sakurai)

In regards to charm, it didn’t work with the harpy either.

“No problems. Are you okay, Sakurai-kun?” (Makoto)

“With the divine protection of the Sun Goddess, I am not affected by abnormal status effects.” (Sakurai)

“…”

This damn cheat.

Sakurai-kun doesn’t notice my gaze.

*Gyaaaaaaaaa!!*

He is watching the violent struggle between the two Taboo Dragons and the Water Orochi with excitement.

“There’s practically no Monarch Rank Mages even in the Highland Kingdom. Especially Water Monarch Magic. It is the first time I see it.” (Sakurai)

“I had to prepare for 7 days in order to use this spell once. Moreover, I can’t use it unless the Spirits are cooperative. It isn’t magic that can be fueled easily.” (Makoto)

“It is not only about activating it. It is pretty rare to see a mage that can control their magic to this extent, you know.” (Sakurai)

He is praising me quite a whole lot.

Is there no good mage in the Sun Country of Highland?

“We are close to seeing it.” (Makoto)

There’s the sunlight coming in from the hole at the top of this underground lake area.

Night has already passed, it seems.

“It is great that Lucy’s meteors widened the big hole.” (Makoto)

“Did you say something?” (Sakurai)

“No, speaking to myself.” (Makoto)

Now then, the last step!

“Sakurai-kun, I will bring the Taboo Dragons outside. My spell will disappear the moment it gets outside, so there’s no redoing.” (Makoto)

“I heard nothing about that!” (Yokoyama)

Ah, should I have told Saki beforehand?

“Sakurai-kun should be okay, right?” (Makoto)

“Kuh, I will!” (Sakurai)

Sakurai-kun shows an expression of resolve.

“Spirit-sans, we are going there.” (Makoto)

I ride on top of the Orochi’s head.

There’s the Taboo Dragon with eyes all-over closeby.

(Uhe, it is grosser when close…) (Makoto)

Let’s finish this quickly.

[Water Magic: Colossal Ascending Dragon].

The Yamata no Orochi changes its shape into a giant dragon, and rises up to the big hole at the top of the dungeon with the two Taboo Dragons and me.

(Thanks…Spirit-sans.) (Makoto)

The moment we left the dungeon, my Spirit Magic lost power, and disappeared.

The Taboo Dragons and I were thrown outside from high up in the air.

(Has Sakurai-kun arrived?) (Makoto)

Thinking this, I see Sakurai-kun clad in a golden aura.

(He is absorbing the light of the sun?) (Makoto)

His shine is increasing more and more.

This is the Light Hero Skill, huh.

I leave the rest to you, Sakurai-kun.

  1. And now nobody will really know anything else but the fact that the Light Hero killed two Taboo Dragons, right? So only the party knows what Makoto did, I am sure^^

  2. hero’s: divine protection protects me from abnormal status = cheat
MC’s passive skill allows him to stay calm in all situations and resist mental ailments = cheat
I don’t know what the mc is complaining about

  3. 《”Yeah, you apparently get hit with charm magic when you meet eyes with it…”》 how can you get charmed with something so gross these weak mages LOL

His Clear Mind is surprisingly cheat level~

  4. I think the principal reason why they say water is weak could be because the way they use it, maybe is a problem about lack of scientist knowledge, lack of proficiency, and/or wrong mentality in the way of use it.

  5. I wonder if the reason for his lacking grow is that he never allocated his stat-points via [RPG-Gamer]…
just caught up but can’t wait for more~

    1. I also hope it like that, but yeah its what ever author want to do with it, i just going to continue the chapter

  6. A true assassin/rogue mage to the end. Takki does his support, puts the DPS in the best possible position, and then peaces out and supports from the side.

Oof. Spirit magic is strong, but…yeah. A pain in the ass. Sure glad it’s someone like Takki who likes meticulously managing this stuff and we can just gloss over it.

…I sure hope this doesn’t put his talent up for grabs in the minds of various countries if this gets out.

  7. You know… I’ve been following for what seems like years when I first found this translator for tsuki… And Everytime I tell myself “don’t read too early because every novel this human picks up I can’t stop reading and I’ll be left on a cliff hanger.” It’s now 2am… And there’s intense regret for not waiting another month… Excellent translations as always. Thank you 🙇

  8. Thanks for the chapter and thanks to the sponsors! ^^
Really if not for skills, the Godess or extrem shrewdness, Sakurai might simply be a good guy not that clever that trust peoples easily and feel lonely for not having male friends around?
The good guy side seems sure here. ^^
As for Makoto, he seems the perfect fit for the guardian or lord of a port City or any kind of water City. ^^
Because, if he stays at the same place for long he can befriend the spirits around to the point of being able to use magic as much as he wants at whatever grade is needed! XD
So, if the informations of conditionnal strongest about Makoto are relayed to the higher ups correctly and they wants the best for their peoples, it might be the best position to put him for them. Plus they would know were he is all the time.
But they will probably be greedy or dismiss it as ludicrous knowing the situation the poor Light Hero is in. -_-‘

  9. who is this Kouki everybody is talking about again? i know there was some character with that name somewhere, i just don‘t remember from where he is

  10. Single-handedly turned it around. And the hero gets to shine. And Saki ends up on her butt. Yeah, check out that proficiency…

This will definitely attract the attention of the powers there. Will our crew be swept off by political intrigue? Hope it’s not boring.

  11. Thanks for your hard work!
I feel like since Makoto can use such insane spirit magic like monarch grade magic, he might get interrogated by the oracles, but then sakurai will come in and say there is no need and stuff like that.

  12. So glad Sakurai seems to be a good guy. Really getting vibes about “Gods misleading the people” and whatnot.

  13. There, now maybe people will stop thinking Sakurai is another Kouki or some other piece of shit hero like you read in so many other LNs. He’s just a nice guy who really wants to be Makoto’s friend and he’s super excited when he saw Makoto use such OP magic. I wonder if he’s also secretly a gamer and that’s why he wanted to be friends with Makoto?

Anyways it seems like Yokoyama’s reactions would be the normal reactions that everybody would have if they knew how weak Makoto’s mana really is which really highlights what a weirdo Makoto really is.

So will this be a quick and simple fight or will that Prince Faction try to interfere? They’re already trying to mess with Sakurai by only giving him mostly new recruits and the Great Sage person sounds like they are also part of the Prince Faction and is thus refusing to help. From Fuji-yan’s information, it really sounds like the Prince Faction is trying to use this subjugation as a way to kill Sakurai so now that it looks like the taboo dragons are about to be defeated maybe the Great Sage will be forced to make a move and try to outright kill him.

  14. That Yamata no Orochi spell seems really cool, especially the lifelike factor that Makoto said any Monarch ranked magic has. I wonder what creature would fire magic creates.
It’s still a pity that there’s no ice element in the magic, how cooler wouldn’t be if each head could unleash a freezing breath.

  15. Thanks for the chapter as always😁! Seriously sakurai isn’t another kouki. If you want another “I’m in the right because I’m the hero!” go read black eagle’s saint. Tbh mc Russell from BES kinda reminds me of
    Makoto.

  16. After seeing things from Saki’s perspective to go back to Makoto’s understated actions highlights just how odd he is, but in a good way!

Plus hearing how Sakurai can only be at his strongest when under sunlight makes for an interesting point, although he has many benefits as the light hero his powers likely aren’t as extreme as we initially thought.

Frankly the skill clear mind is starting to seem to be super powerful, or at least when in conjunction with RPG player. Makoto can literally have similar effects from those two skills, as that seen from a God’s divine blessing, at least versus mental abnormal status effects. Didn’t the church person who met Makoto say that clear mind was a pretty common skill? It seriously sounds fishy to me.

    1. The skill RPG player allows its user to use the perspective of a person playing an RPG game, so I think that skill is very similar to the Gamer’s Mind of the manhwa The Gamer. I think Makoto sees the reality as a game thanks to this skill. Therefore, he has an immunity against mental attacks.

      1. Yeah, I guess if I encounter a siren in an RPG I’m playing, I won’t feel much even if it does a little animation and I get: [The Siren sings to charm you!]

    2. The church person has probably seen other skills like Clear Mind except that they only calm the mind a little and the guy just assumed that Makoto’s skill is like that and not that Makoto can change the level of how much it affects him.

  17. Thanks for the chapter~ Wonder why Sakurai seems to be so trusting of Makoto, I mean, while what Yokoyama is saying about Makoto is awful to hear, it’s also what most people would think when they see him. So Sakurai fully trusting him seems weird… Guess there is hope for some BL teasing in this~ But in all honesty Spirit Magic is OP~! Wonder if he’ll get affinity with the other spirits after he visits the elves and learns more about them~?

    1. Yeah definitely a common judgement. Sakurai seriously just seems like a genuinely good guy, like that cheerful happy go lucky child that is just trying to do his best. Would love to know why he seems to trust Makoto so much.

Even if you didn’t judge him for playing games all the time you would be cautious. It is basic survival instinct which, given he has been fighting monsters and survived them, you would presume Sakurai has. (And when fighting stupidly powerful monsters that are classed as calamity’s it doesn’t matter how powerful you are, unless you are a god you can’t underestimate them otherwise you die).

Anyone else sensing a history of some kind? I hope there is.

Oh funny thought, what if it turns out Sakurai is a gamer as well? How funny would that be!

      1. even if hes a nice guy hes still unusually trusting of him, me thinks he also has some sort of skill that is telling him Makoto more then he seems like the girl with mana sight but different

      2. most likely because the sun goddess which give sakurai protection tell him that it’s ok to trust makoto……..

    2. P.S. So need more and more spirit sans! So hope Makoto can learn more spirit magic!

I would refute spirit magic being OP though, needing to do prep for 7 days to use it once and then only within certain confines are major limits. Essentially that is a single shot spell with a seven day cool down that only starts after exiting battle.

And that is just the requirements for the spell, never mind the necessary preparation on the users part to be a high enough proficiency and have sufficient skill to control the spell. As stated in earlier chapters spirits have a huge amount of mana so any grade of magic can be used but they tricky part is controlling/directing it. It sounded like you are needing to keep the spirits focussed on the task at hand.

Taking those limitations into account the spell ought to be pretty darn powerful.

P.P.S. I stand by my comment the previous bc halter that I hope the last line refers to Makoto. Looking at him from Yokoyama’s perspective he definitely fits the bill here. At least in my opinion
