WR- Chapter 249: Evil Light

In reality, I already knew it.

The identity of my sister the former light hero, Ates.

I -Yorishiro- already knew it.

In the battle that day, Ates, who had been overwhelmed by the portion of God power from Karen-san, had no choice but to escape, and as she escaped, she told me this.

She purposely told me to this to reveal her own identity.

(Yorishiro…to think you were secretly developing such a trump card, as expected of my other half!) (Ates)

That transmission that came from the soul was exactly like mine.

This soul transmission is something that only the people who have the souls of Gods can do.

(Ates? Is that you?) (Yorishiro)

(That’s right. Today, I will give the victory to that heroic Karen-san of yours. I will be leaving. Now that I have completed my original objective that was the shadow spear Abel, getting greedy for more would simply serve to pull my leg after all.) (Ates)

Ates, really, just what in the world are you?!

At first, I thought of Ates-san as simply a person hungry for political power. That her only objective was to obtain political power. However, now that she has shown such special power, I can’t stay in the same way of thinking anymore.

She is clearly aiming for something after obtaining that political power.

(It is a simple thing. Having political power, I can control the humans and rot them from the inside. I can set it up so that they would hate and betray each other. If Haine-san were to see such a sight, he would also get disappointed in the humans.) (Ates)

(What purpose would that serve?!) (Yorishiro)

At that moment, I felt as if my heart had been grabbed ahold.

(If the humans are gone…if the humans are eradicated, that person wouldn’t need to look aside and will simply have eyes for me. It is fine for him and I to be the only ones in the world. Only darkness and light are needed.) (Ates)

(Wait! What are you saying?! Just who in the world…!) (Yorishiro)

(You should already know by now, Light Goddess Inflation. I am the Light Goddess, Inflation.) (Ates)

My sister that holds the same blood as me called the name of my soul…while revealing the name of her own soul.

(The soul of a God is special. It is bigger than any and far-reaching like no other. There’s no limits. Thus, if it is necessary, it can also be split in two. I felt like vomiting.

The foul things that Ates was spouting out were certainly the ugly emotions that I had in the past.

In the middle of the battle 1,600 years ago, those were the very feelings that were stirring inside me after all.

That anger, that suffering; with the time I passed my life as the human Izanami in the Underworld Country together with the humans, it slowly went away. I thought those emotions had been completely gone.

But that wasn’t it.

The evil that was inside me had been separated from me and was moving as a completely independent existence!

(I will honestly admit that I lost to your plans. Please think of me revealing my identity as the reward for winning today. The one winning in the end has already been decided that it will be me anyways.) (Ates)

(What do you mean by that?!) (Yorishiro)

(The shadow spear Abel; with the completion of this, all the pieces of the puzzle have been gathered. Now all that’s left is to orderly piece them together. And then, it will be completed. The white shining God of Destruction that I myself created…) (Ates)

(The Light Demon Lord, Lucifer.) (Ates)

Ates laughs ‘Ahahahahahaha!!’ as if gone insane, and the soul shakes along with those laughs.

(The whole world will be brought to an end by Lucifer! Humans, Gods, and monsters; everything! It is fine for the world to only have the Dark God Entropy and the Light Goddess Inflation!!) (Ates)

Ates once again laughs.

(Of course, the last remaining Inflation will not be you. Even if we are the same existence, the one being loved by the Dark God—by Haine-san, will be me. You will also be a pitiful existence that will be eradicated by Lucifer. I wanted you to know before you disappeared. That’s why, today is the greeting for that.) (Ates)

(Don’t get conceited! There’s no way Haine-san would love a person like you that wants to eradicate humans!!) (Yorishiro)

(Won’t know until I try. In order to be loved the most by Haine-san, there’s the need to eradicate the humans anyways. You didn’t have the courage to put that in motion. But I do!) (Ates)

The identity of Ates-san had finally been made clear, and I truly felt fear from my heart.

What she is trying to make reality is the thought that I had once considered.

And that’s obviously because she is me.

The evil that had welled up inside of me in the past and disappeared; she is the very incarnation of it.

(This sets the end of my declaration of war. Well then Yorishiro, do your best in dealing with the Demon Lords.) (Ates)

Ates had disappeared inside the shadows after escaping from the attack of Karen-san, and I couldn’t chase after her.

At the same time as this happened, Karen-san had lost strength and consciousness, and I supported her from the back.

Just like she said, I don’t have courage.

I am thoroughly cowardly and underhanded.

I am so cowardly that I couldn’t even tell Haine-san about the true identity of Ates to Haine-san even when I had learned about it after all.

It was embarrassing and scary to have Haine-san know that I had such an ugly part inside of me in the past.

    So.........Ates is Yorishiros yandere side (though more so in yan than dere) that split off from her and started the creation of the demon lords................

    Well it sounds like Yorishiro's pretty much set her fate in stone. Taking on the burden of receiving and channeling prayer energy for 5 heroes means her own powers and soul will be slowly eroded by that power; she might even disappear.

    Ates didn't end up being Lucifer like I had initially guessed, but instead she's the one who created the Light Demon Lord. I feel a lot of pity for Yorishiro having to deal with the fact that she has an evil half that's totally gone yandere for Haine/Entropy and is trying to destroy the world. If only Haine would stop being a useless protagonist and actually step it up a bit.

    I feel like lately Haine has been taking a back seat to everyone else and isn't able to do anything. Sure he has the powers of ultimate destruction, but what good does that do him if he doesn't actually start paying attention to the people around him and help them, Yorishiro especially. I hope he starts being a little more proactive as both a human and a God in resolving the problems facing him and those around him.

    • People keep talking about the prayer energy as if it's lethal poison, but isn't it more like a drug? The other gods overdid it and ended up being dependent on it, but will using it so briefly really doom Inflation just like that?

      And yeah, I totally agree on the point of Haine needing to step up already. I don't really care about him using OP power to fix the problem for everyone, but he should still be guiding the humans-not to mention his wives-philosophically, emotionally, and mentally.

      His lacking response towards the girls is getting to be a bit frustrating for me too, since he isn't even the indecisive type of harem MC. If he's going to observe as a god, then he needs to guide as a god. If he's going to support as a human, then he should give his all and act like a human.
      And for the love of Inflation, can we get some kind of brief moment where he just calls his mom and dad? Maybe introduce his two girlfriends fiances to them?

      • I definitely hear you on the last one, I'm glad you agree with me that Haine ought to step it up. In regards to the prayer energy matter, I do understand that it's more accurate to treat it as a drug and not an immediate acting poison, but didn't Yorishiro pretty much explain to Haine that she alone would bear the majority of the burden and harmful side-effects of Prayer Energy for 5 people?

        That's essentially a major overdose that could prove to be lethal, especially on a first application. I don't expect the effects to be immediate, but it's certain that Yorishiro will be having it hard for a while, and her soul as a God won't be able to exist nearly as long as it originally should have. And the only reason she can do it is because she's the only one in good enough shape for the task.

        Which brings another point of, why the hell isn't Haine jumping on board with this!? He loves humans just as much right? And he shouldn't want to see Yorishiro suffering either! I would have expected him to want to help her in sharing this burden for humanity's and her sake. But if his reasoning for not acting like that is similar to his other excuses, like 'I can't stand in the way of her resolve,' I'm calling bullshit on the way Haine feels about humans and the world, that's just way too passive in my eyes. If he wants to live as a human he ought to be more greedy and selfish.

        • Actually, the approach that would make the most sense would be to have Quasar do it.

          Quasar has definitely got the mental fortitude and resolve to pull it off, and he's already suffering from prayer energy withdrawal, so there's the least to lose for him to handle it.

          • Isn't it because he's suffering from Prayer Energy withdrawal that he can't? If the effects worsen then that's akin to shortening his own lifespan; whereas Inflation still has the capacity to endure the burden of 5 people precisely because she has the spare power for it.

            But then again, I guess it's not an impossible option. Who knows, maybe next chapter Yorishiro will be convinced to share that burden among the other Gods, and have her only being responsible for Karen. I think that would be ideal as that lessens the burden on Yorishiro and makes the other 4 Gods atone for their transgressions.

          • Maybe I just have no idea how drugs work. Are people somehow unable to take in more of the drug if they're suffering from withdrawal? I could understand if it was like literal poison(which would be theologically amusing in itself), but in the short term, it actually made the base elements stronger.

            There's probably further long-term damage to health, but my point was that Quasar, who is weakening anyway, has much less to lose by taking on this burden than Inflation, who took care to avoid getting addicted and thus can still live a normal god's lifespan, however long that is.

          • That's a pretty cold and objective way of putting it... But I understand what you're getting at and I think Quasar wouldn't object in the end.

            Anyways, I think we ought to revise our interpretation of Prayer energy given the way this topic is headed. How about thinking of Prayer Energy as a form of doping instead of as explicitly a drug? Technically doping is the application of drugs to enhance/inhibit athletic performance, but this interpretation puts it into a better and more accurate perspective in my opinion.

          • I honestly don't know enough about most equivalents to be able to make apt comparisons.

            As far as I can remember, prayer energy is drawn from peoples' faith and emotions(both positive and negative, if Karen's experience is any indication) towards you and is:
            1. Empowering
            2. Addictive
            3. Has a brutal withdraw

          • I think that sums it up pretty well. But the way the Gods treat is as if it's debilitating. But honestly, not enough information about Prayer Energy is given to draw any conclusion, only a rough outline.

    • That is always the case to such story like this. He's not thinking much about it knowing full well of his surroundings as his head and heart always to loving the humans but not always attentive and notice to Yorishiro.
      Everything gone bygone but he is just laiding back as an action that as God observing the humans action.

      • I really wish he would stop taking on the stance of a God during critical situations though. If he keeps this up he's bound to really regret it. I get that he's not totally doing nothing, but we know that he's capable of much more. All in all, he needs to be reminded where his feet are and the people around him; he's the one who wanted to live as a human after all and being human includes living with the people around you.

    • Oh man that would be really cool! :) We could have the Demon Lords who wish for the destruction of humans and the world, and then the other type of Demon Lord who's rational and would potentially cooperate with humans all together in the same scenario/world. That would be a plot twist I've never read before.

      • Haine did resort to making his own monster back during the recruitment of the water hero for the alliance to stop the water monster. However, I forgot how much time was mentioned for the creation of the mother monsters. We will probably not see a Darkness Demon Lord that was born from the mother monster like the rest at least.

    • Wish that Demon Lord he creates wouldn't be evil and hostile to humans and him. If it were it would surely be more powerful than Lucifer and be known as "Erebus"!

      • All of the Demon Lords are named after Arch-Angels,with the exception of Lucifer who's a Fallen Angel/Devil, and all of these names come from the Bible/Hebrew Script. So wouldn't Samael be a more fitting name for a Darkness Demon Lord in this series? Since Samael is a figure representing destruction and death as well as being known as an accuser and a seducer; essentially Samael is also a figure that is reagarded as both good and evil, and what's more: The Venom/Poison of God and Blindness of God.

  • It'll end with her accepting ates as part of her not destroying her, that's from 99% of other novels/manga/ECT where it turns out to be an evil half. Also my guess is that she either becomes Lucifer or creates a demon Lord directly not a mother monster. Because she wants to be loved so she needs to live hence she wouldn't sacrifice her soul. At most she'll kill her self to get rid of the human body and then turn into Lucifer
