Chapter 138: Guest’s rescue

Translator: Hello guys!

I think my warning came off a bit wrong? Don’t worry, I wasn’t angry or anything. I just wanted to warn the people, who probably didn’t know, that those type of talks actually do affect me.
Btw, this doesn’t count the opinions about the story in itself, points of views are varied and I don’t mind them giving it out. It’s just the dropping part I can’t handle well. Just that one part, there’s absolutely no need to say it.

I know those are the minority and I love this community, so there’s no way I would leave because of that reason, of that I can assure you.

All forms of cheering came to me, I was actually quite surprised. Thank you very much to everyone that did so! It made me really happy. It reminded me of how worth it was to take up translation! ^^

“Excuse me”

A clear voice resounds in the guest area that is being controlled by bewilderment.

There’s a carpet spread out and seats lined up. A room that divides it from the general seats.

So this is the guest seats huh.

Tomoe’s voice resounds well. It probably gathered the attention of all the countries’ big-shots onto her.

There were some gazes my way too though.

“Who are you guys?! Don’t you know that this area is off limits?!”

A face that I have seen in portraits shouts at us.

Ah, this guy is the academy’s principal.

I never know where he was, and of course, I have never met him before, so I couldn’t tell it was him immediately.

“Please do forgive us in this emergency situation. It seems you guests haven’t evacuated to a safe place, so it may be out of our way, but we thought we should lend our assistance” (Tomoe)

Tomoe didn’t show any sign of being angered and tells the academy principal her business.

At that moment, I noticed that there was a girl that send her gaze to Tomoe.

From what I can tell, she looks like a girl with social status.

She looks young, so maybe the next generation head of some noble family? Or maybe a princess of somewhere?

N, princess?

I feel like Tomoe might know something…

Could it be, this woman is the Gritonia Empire’s princess, Lily?

If it’s really, then she is quite the big-shot.

But it seems she is traveling with the hero, so it would be strange for her to be here.

There’s the chance that she is not her huh.

I felt like there was a familiar gaze on me and when I turned to check who it was, I see a silver haired young man leaning his back on a wall with arms crossed.

Don’t know what’s so fun, but he is smiling, and he unfastens his arms and waves his hand at me.

Its pervert Root.

Right, he was here as well.

Damn it.

Then there was no need to come here to help them?

If he comes talking to me about strange things, it would not be good for me or my company.

But it seems Root doesn’t intend to move into action. He crosses his arms again, his wide smile returns to a slight smile, and he silently looks at Tomoe again.

I don’t get him.

Is he not worried about the Adventurer Guild?

I do think that that place is also facing danger though?

“First of all, introduce yourself! I don’t know about you”

“Sorry for my lack of manners. I am Tomoe, one of Kuzunoha Company’s employees, Academy Principal. And this person here is my master Raidou. He has an impairment that doesn’t allow him to speak, so I, his follower, am the one who has to introduce him. Please do understand” (Tomoe)

“Tomoe and Raidou huh”

[Pleasure to meet you Academy Principal. I am a temporary teacher working here, Raidou. I considered this an emergency situation so I thought I would help out and so I have come here. Please forgive our rudeness]

“Written communication. I see, it is you. I do remember there’s a temporary teacher named Raidou”

It seems he at least knows that I use written communication, and I also show a plate which serves as a certificate that proves I am a temporary teacher.

Looking at me, the written communication, and the proof; the tone of the Academy Principal softened.

“I am glad you have understood” (Tomoe)

“You said assistance, but what kind of assistance do you intent to provide? In this situation where we only know that there are monsters in town, there’s no way you can guide us to a safe place you know?”

“Academy Principal, you know of several places that are safe right?” (Tomoe)

“Of course, we have already secured a place in times of emergencies. Relaying composed orders and sorting information in a dangerous place is something I would want to avoid”

“Then if you tell us of that place, I will use teleport magic to send everyone there” (Tomoe)

“… Teleport? Teleport you say?! This amount of people, in a place the magic user hasn’t gone to before?! Impossible. I have never heard of a spell like that!”

For a second, the Academy Principal lets out a dumbfounded voice, but he soon understood the content and splendidly rejected Tomoe’s plan.

There are times I do think we leisurely use thought transmission and teleportation too much.

The teleporting technique is originally an advanced spell and not something one can leisurely use, and in thought transmission there’s the thing about distance and tapping, and it is user-friendly, so it is used in the general populace, but the one we use is practically a completely different thing.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to compare the transmission quality to a bad-performance transceiver and a satellite telephone.

“But you know, it is actually possible. Well, it certainly can’t be helped that this is being suspected as a trap. Fumu…” (Tomoe)

That’s why it is troublesome to explain this complicated teleportation though.

Tomoe doesn’t really look like she is troubled.

Maybe she has a method to convince them.

The only thing I thought of is having one person test it to show it works.

Well, having that one person cooperate will be the troublesome part though.

They are all big-shots after all.

Is there anyone I know that can help out?

Uhm, excluding the pervert…

“Ahahaha! What an interesting person, Academy Principal. Truly interesting. It’s true that I have never heard of such an excelling magician with such a teleport spell” (Root)

“Falz-dono”

“Person called Tomoe, how about trying it out on me first. Right, can you teleport me to the guest seats around that part there? It is fine if I just picture it in my mind right?” (Root)

Root.

Acting as if he has never met her before, he volunteered as a test subject.

Tomoe probably knew this would happen, she didn’t look shaken at all.

Well, even if he is like that, he is still the Adventurer Guild’s Master.

He must have a decent amount of trust.

“Your name is Falz-dono right? Then, please enter inside this mist” (Tomoe)

“Heh~, the other side also has mist appearing huh. Well then, let’s try it out and see if such a convenient spell actually exists” (Root)

In the place where Root pointed out with his finger, there’s also mist appearing. And while still playing the fool, he disappears into the mist, and at the next instant, he comes out from the place he pointed out.

He then turns his head towards the guest seats and waves his hand.

Tomoe glanced at the princess(?) who has her hands on her mouth and her eyes wide open.

Looks like she is quite surprised.

Root walks through the mist on that side and returned.

“Amazing, that’s quite a significant feat! This is the first time I have seen such a great spell! From what I see, that was a power created from the sword hanging at your waist, right?” (Root)

What kind of crazy thing is he saying?

What Tomoe used was teleportation.

It comes normally from herself.

He should also know about the application of our space teleportation.

I really don’t know what he is thinking.

“You got me. Falz-dono has quite the scary eyes there. That’s right, this is the special power of this sword. No need for aria and it allows for a point to point teleportation” (Tomoe)

… Hm?

Tomoe is following?

But unrelated to my confusion, Tomoe and Root were looking at each other and grinned slightly.

Why?

Of course, everyone’s gaze gathered at Tomoe’s sword simultaneously.

To the shorter katana that she pointed out.

Oh.

I notice that there are other faces I know.

The priest and Lorel’s… Sairitz-san, was it?

So they also came to spectate the tournament.

There were several more important-looking people than priest-san at his side, so it took me some time to notice him.

The priest-san is one of the highest positions in the Rotsgard church, so that means, the people there are even higher than that. They might even be from the main church of Limia.

I took time to notice the Lorel people simple because they were at a corner.

Sairitz-san is there too, but there are also many others there as well.

Most of them have darkish skin.

Are the people there mostly of that skin color?

Maybe she noticed my gaze, Sairitz-san made a smile for a second.

She soon returned her interest to Tomoe’s sword though.

“I can’t believe it”

The Academy Principal was at a complete loss for words.

Teleportation in itself is an extremely advanced technique, and just the fact of being able to use it, you would be admired.

That’s why, in order to make this advanced technique as easy to do as possible, they recreate the teleport formation accurately, and there’s also support formations that reduce the burden.

And to be told that this action can be done with the power of a sword, moreover, allowing you to teleport to a specific location; there’s no surprise that they wouldn’t believe it.

Well, for the common sense of this academy, it is something they wouldn’t even think it exists.

And this is also proof that this is not something common.

The influential people that come from several countries are all concentrating their eyes on that sword.

Hope this doesn’t become a new spark.

“How is it, everyone? Since they went through the trouble of coming to help us, how about relying on them?” (Root)

Root looks at everyone and proposes this idea.

It seems he will incite them for us.

I don’t know if this guy is an enemy or an ally, but it seems that in this moment at least, he will act as our ally.

“… Right. It is just as Falz-dono said. Raidou-dono, I thank you for your courageous action, and I promise I will definitely repay you for it. On the name of Gritonia Empire’s Lily. What about the others?” (Lily)

Gritonia’s Lily.

So she really is the princess.

She even came for the school festival, impressive.

Maybe she also attended this academy?

I feel like she glanced at Tomoe for an instant, but I don’t know her intentions.

From what I have heard of Tomoe, they don’t have that deep of a connection and just parted at that point in time.

With Lily’s words as the impetus, several ‘me too’ ‘me too’ were raised and more people decide take our helping hand.

People are willing to.

The people related to the Church, the Lorel Union, and also the nobles that seem to be from Aion. The Academy principal, who is being shouldered by a woman that looks like his secretary, also agreed with it.

Or more like, old man, why did your legs weaken to the point of needing someone to lend you a shoulder?

Isn’t that sexual harassment?

“The people there as well, please decide quickly” (Tomoe)

Tomoe hurries the remaining 5, but they didn’t show signs of moving.

What’s going on?

I don’t think there’s significance for a guest to be staying here though.

“… This one is fine here. I have the duty to overlook this”

This one? <余. A super formal way of saying ‘I’>

Is he a king?

Duty to overlook he says. He is looking at the stage.

The fight between the students and the monster huh.

“Father, that is…”

“You all, return”

“King, we can’t do that. The one standing on that stage is my child after all”

… That’s the Limia group.

Ilumgand’s father, the Limia King, and he said ‘father’ so maybe the prince?

Judging from the bearings of the remaining 2, they are probably knights.

So they are a totally related party huh.

What to do?

I think the best choice would be to shelter the other people first.

“Waka, I will be bringing the people here to the safe place that the Academy Principal is thinking of” (Tomoe)

I was about to give the orders to Tomoe and looked at her, but she was one step ahead of me.

Of course, that’s what I wanted her to do, so I nod.

A mist a lot bigger than the one Root crossed appears.

It looks like haze, but it has a thickness that makes you unable to see the other side.

It does make one think that this is a product of magic.

“Well then, I will place this katana under Waka’s care. I leave the matters here to you” (Tomoe)

“?!”

Oi.

What do you plan by leaving me the short katana?

I instinctively take the short sword that was given to me and look at Tomoe.

With a suggestive smile, she disappears into the mist.

Damn it.

Uhm, so I should convince the others from Limia?

But I don’t know the etiquette when talking to a king.

… Should I apologize first before going for the persuasion?

[This is the first time I have met with a person as great as you king, so I might come off as rude. Please do forgive me if that happens]

“You said your name was Raidou, right? Your written communication is skillful. And your magic should be as well” (King)

[Yes. I can’t speak common language, so I am using written communication in this way. Once again, I am the one in charge of Kuzunoha Company, Raidou]

“I know” (King)

[Hm? Do you mean, you know about my store as well?]

Why does someone like the Limia King have information of a small store in Rotsgard like mine?

“Right, Hopelace?” (King)

“?!!”

“If I remember correctly, the company that you were investigating about was the Kuzunoha Company, and about a temporary teacher named Raidou, right?” (King)

“This is a fact we have already confirmed, Hopelace-dono” (Prince)

What?

It seems there’s a completely different development going on now.

The thin person that’s probably the prince complements the words of the king and shoots them at Hopelace.

I see, Hopelace.

That means the various things Ilumgand did have already been exposed huh.

“I want an explanation Hopelace. Regarding your second son, Ilumgand, that has transformed, and about the calamity that’s occurring in the whole Academy Town” (King)

“… King, it is true that I listened to my son’s request and investigated about this teacher. I have also used money to bend the rules in this tournament. However, this situation was definitely not carried out by me. Ilumgand is my son, and he is an important son that might become the head of the family in this warring times. To turn him into that kind of… that kind of monster to plot something, I would never do it!!”

“… Then, why did Ilumgand take an interest in Raidou?” (King)

“… I don’t know. I really don’t know anything!”

I actually wanted to know that too.

Why was I hated so much to the point of being investigated and being declared war?

I only covered for Ruria. Is that something he would get so tenacious about?

Or was he the type that can’t tolerate disgrace?

I am not a noble, so it is hard for me to completely understand their thought patterns.

The Hopelace head repeats his apology to the king over and over again.

“I will hear about it in detail after we have gotten through this situation and return to our country. But the shame you have made us bear on the many nations, won’t come cheap” (King)

“Uh…”

“And so, Raidou, you are a merchant right? And a temporary teacher in this academy that teaches practical skills. Are the students fighting there your students?” (King)

[Yes, there’s no mistake. Those are the students taking my class. Just that, they haven’t been attending it for that long of a time]

“Hoh~. How long has it been?” (King)

[Less than half a year]

“Half a year… were those kids that strong since then?” (King)

[No. I began my business in Tsige, so I have seen the fighting style of the adventurers there. I taught them a part of it, and it seems it fit them well, they have been increasing their skills]

So the Limia King has also taken an interest in them huh.

Still facing the stage, he continues our conversation.

“Tsige huh. Certainly. The adventurers hero-dono brought from there had a fighting style similar to this one. It seems it is not a lie” (King)

Adventurers from Tsige in Limia?

Heh~

In that case, the current Limia has quite the high leveled adventurers there.

If the people that the hero recruited were people with the skills to enter and leave the wasteland at will, they will become quite the war potential for Limia.

Hero.

I didn’t enquire any specifics, but she came to a remote place like Tsige huh.

Thinking about it in a logical manner, the reason she went there would be for training, maybe?

[King-sama, please come with me to a safe place. There’s no assurance that this place won’t be attacked by other enemies]

“If I have the teacher of those splendid students at my side, I don’t have much to worry about. By the way, Raidou, you can use that sword?” (King)

The Limia King looks at the short katana I hold.

The made-up story about being able to use teleportation with it huh.

Tomoe, it is turning into something troublesome you know?

[Yes, I can. If it’s me or Tomoe who was here a while ago, it can be used]

“Then can you bring me to that place? If Ilumgand sees me and his father, he might return to his senses” (King)

“King, that’s not good. It’s way too dangerous” (Prince)

“A noble of Limia is causing damage to the Academy. I have to provide my assistance to control this situation as well, or I won’t be able to stand upright. Isn’t that right, Hopelace?” (King)

Rejecting the words of the prince, the King looks at Hopelace.

He reacts with a jolt, and makes a small nod.

He probably doesn’t want to face his transformed son.

“Of course, placing oneself in danger is not assistance, but showing that you are willing to is necessary sometimes. If the ones who have to do so are me and Hopelace, then it can’t be helped. A quite blunt and unnatural thing to do, if I do say so myself” (King)

“… Raidou-dono, can you teleport us over there?” (Prince)

It seems the prince folded.

Well, I don’t really mind though.

Then, I will be acting as the bodyguard of this people for a while?

[It is possible. Well then, all five, is it okay to teleport you around that seat over there?]

Saying so, I point to an estimated area.

The prince nods.

The knights stay silent.

Probably means that they will just silently obey. It must be tough for them as well.

Well, if they carry this out safely, they should gain big points for it.

At that place there’s Shiki and Mio.

I put up the short katana.

Gotta show the act at the very least.

I create mist that is not that different from the one Tomoe made.

Mist is created at the pointed out place as well.

Preparations complete.

“I will definitely repay you, Raidou” (King)

The Limia King talks to me.

It would be weird to part from my katana at this moment, so I just lower my head.

In my left hand I have the scabbard and in my right the katana. It was pretty unshapely.

Knight, Hopelace, Prince, and then the King; in order, they disappear inside the mist.

  1. thanks for the chapter!
and as usual, Mokoto is being retarded again, seriously? Tomoe specifying the sword as a source of the teleportation spell is troublesome? for their attention to be directed toward the sword instead of them is troublesome?!

  2. It may not be a good idea to reveal the mist gate method to the nobles. They may want access to the mist later on. Do since they are playing it off as the swording doing it, they can say it some kind of old artifacts or a gift given to them by the goddess or one of a kind item.

I reminder there was a part where it s said that Tomoe can look through the memories of everyone that passes through the mist gates. So it may be somewhat good. And I hope that Makoto looks through their memories. He can learn if Lorel is actually a good places, the church secret, the noble’s secrets, the princes secret and about the heroes. They may even learn more about Root but he probably has a way of blocking it.

Hopefully Makoto is able to get in with the big wigs.

    1. Merchants already suspected teleportation.
Now he has revealed that, yes, he has teleportation, while also keeping the actual source and method a secret.
And sword being usable only by Tomoe (as princess learned earlier) and Makoto (as shown here), makes it less likely to anyone try outright theft (even if they had the guts to try anything with Tomoe).

I could see them selling portal services for non standard locations for huge sums of money (no troop or weapon transports, civilians and non military goods only), while also picking through the minds of their clients.

  3. Tomoe: “We came to help”
    Principle: “Who are you?”
Everyone else: “Blah, blah, blah, teleport, blah….”
King: “Can you bring us there?”
Makoto: “Sorry, while we were talking, those guys finished the fight half an hour ago and went off for lunch…”

    🙂

Amazing how people in fights call a time out whenever other people are talking. lol

    1. Though in this case it’s plausible since the students probably haven’t gone beyond probing strikes.

As per the conversation in the previous chapter, they’re probably still unsure about the whole thing and not really commited to seriously hurting Hopelace; yet.

Can’t wait for the Shiki & Mio cheering squad. One urging them to remember their training, and to take down their opponent without rushing things. The other telling them to just slaughter the thing and be done with it-desu wa.

  4. I can’t help but feel like the writer is trying to set up too many plot points. Yes he is trying to correct the issue that came up a few chapters ago but otherwise this can now go so many ways
    1. “Revealing” to the merchants, priests, and a king that the reason he is so good at getting stuff is due to a “sword ability” portal. They now either have to go easier on Raidou regarding taxing him or find a way to get him on their side seeing as he has a powerful ability that can change the tide of wars. Ironically though, since all of them have ostracized him one way or another, he will be truly neutral (unless he goes demon)
    2. One way or another, he will be forced to meet the kings and their heroes, in which the female hero will out him from their world, making he an unofficial hero. This will go one of two ways: either they will try to kill him because they realize he doesn’t have the goddess blessing (i.e. Not being able to speak) outing himself (power wise) or they will try to buy him out; the first option is less likely
    3. Someone – like that dragon tamer girl – will “out” Root (as she has done with Tomoe) causing the collapse of the adventure guild (you can guess why). Unfortunately, this is too extreme ( but a possible future plot)
    4. My favorite theory: the Kings will send their heroes to find the source of Raidou power and/or test prototypes portals. Either way, one of them will get to the mist village, realize its significance (God domain) BUT not realize that it’s Raidou’s (they will just assume that he uses their services to get stuff – hence cheapness of his items) since he made everyone in the village refer to him as Master (HILARITY INSURES)

  5. He got big military power, lots of resources and people with talents(ex. blacksmith, researchers, etc.) and he himself is strong with reliable subordinates. If he wants, he could make a third faction since the demon race and human race are at war. I don’t see any reason why he is having a hard time making any decision or movements. It only shows how the MC is an idiot to be an earthling. Goddess? If he the goddess want him dead, she could just kill him earlier, why she isn’t killing him? Its either she has uses on him or she hasnt bother at all. Makoto is standing out without accomplishing any at all. No goal either. And yet he is worrying of standing out because he is afraid of goddess. He wants to be a merchant? With his lots of military power, talented individual and resources, he can make a lot of connection. With his indecisive movements, he is standing out while he still thinking of keeping a low profile that is why people think he is weak or easy to bully. People like him are easy to bully at school.

    1. Makoto has no real goal (apart from learning about his parents past), no real skills (apart from basic math and combat, great for a combat accountant, not so great for a leader), and he lacks the drive and cold heartedness to truly capitalize on his advantages.

The reason he waffles about is not about stupidity (though naivity is a big problem), but simply that he does not know what he wants.
Once he commits himself to a course, then we might actually see some growth and ability.
Until then, it’s pretty much Tomoe & Mio show, guest starring Makoto and Shiki.

  6. Hehehe, nice way to gain favor and divert excessive attention at the same time!

Thank you for the chapter! Keep it up, Reigo-kun! (chan?!)

  7. Tch ! I missed again !
Oy, oy, about that katana thing, isn’t it also a way of redirecting the lights on MC-chan. This and the fact that our Kaku-chan left the rest of the big shots at his care (+ her little mischevious smile…) AHAHAHAHAHAHAH ! It seems like you’ve been played great MC-sama ! Well, you’ll figure it out soon…Maybe.

I can totally feel the bloodbath coming, but AHAHAHAHAHAHAH ! Even I am fazed by the MC’s rythm !
That’s part of the charm of this story, I suppose.

    Thanks for your work !

    1. Too bad for makoto, he want to sell kuzunoha battle prowess but root and tomoe just blushed it off with katana power. Now kuzunoha strength is based on the weapons in their hand and some high level duo.
For root, it is entertainment so meh. At least makoto is slow, if not, tomoe and root will get 1 or 2 bumps on the spot

      1. It’s not so bad really.
He is now known for having
        1. high personal power.
        2. high powered 2nd in commands (Tomoe+Mio) and assistant (Shiki).
        3. access to high quality alchemists and ingredients.
        4. ability to move troops and material at will
And on top of that, having trained to champions of the tournament (solo and team), the smarter ones will ask the question of “how good will any personal troops he has be?”

        1. makes attacking him a not very smart move
        2. makes it dangerous to attacking his businesses
        3. makes him a target for espionage, but also a good potential business partner
        4. is the biggie, with the “secret” of teleportation out (and merchants were suspecting it already), he can’t be made to share it, and it being a singular magic item, taking it away becomes tricky, because if merchants tried to get it, nations would intervene to get it for themselves.
Everyone will want the teleporting sword, nobody will want others to have it.
So with some deft legwork, Makoto can simply keep the sword by not giving anyone preferential treatment because trying to get it is risky (see #1 & #2).

Depending how talks with Hopelace+Kingie go (and demon king later), he might be on the verge of becomming pretty significant player at international level.

      2. Attacking front end sure is a bad idea. but we are talking about hyuman and demons here who like to work behind the scene.
Makoto is an idiot, he can only confront those infront of him. Those 2 (Tomoe and mio) is not 24/7 beside him, and shiki also no beside him all the time.
Root give hyuman the reason not to fight them head on but also give them reason to do dirty job if want to get benefits from kuzunoha,
In stead of get over it by showing that kuzunoha is not some small group that you can go and bully, Root and Tomoe make it, if you can get artifact away from us, you are good to go kind of thing.

  8. It just occurred to me that Root is going to be so disappointed when he/she finds out that Makoto is a hyuman, not a human.

    Poor Root.

  9. “Knight, Hopelace, Prince, and then the King; in order, they disappear inside the mist.”

And when they emerged on the other side, they found themselves in the main square of an unfamiliar town. It was bustling with activity.

There were many fruits and vegetables unfamiliar to them displayed in stalls, and the inhabitants were going about their business at a slow and relaxed pace, seemingly happy about their life. Except they were all Mamono.

    “Oops”

The sound came from behind them, and when they looked back they saw Raidou, scratching his cheek, with a shy smile on his face.

[I don’t suppose I can ask you to forget everything you just saw?]

  10. Welp, guess my hope for a blood bath 2 chaps ago didn’t come true. Anyways…

Lily’s glance at Tomoe was saying, “Since you people started it, it’s OK to make contact now right?”

Since the act of teleportation was misdirected towards Tomoe’s weapon, a lot of people will try to acquire it.

Although, since they know that Tomoe is level 1500 now, and the fact that she works in the same company as Mio, who is also level 1500, a show of force is obviously out of the question.

Blackmail is also out of the equation, since Tomoe can just beat them to within an inch of their lives. Same with trying to kidnap Makoto. I have a feeling that they are gonna get wiped out by him instead.

Best they could do is try and steal it, but then again, in the billion-to-one chance that they can pull THAT off, they wouldn’t be able to draw it regardless, due to only 3 people being capable of drawing it (Tomoe, Makoto, and the Dwarf smiths that do maintenance on it).

    Which brings us to Lily.

She knows(from experiencing it first-hand) that Tomoe is the only one who can draw the weapon, then sees that Raidou can do it as well. So, she’ll try to set up an appointment with Trashmoki and Raidou as soon as possible.

Trashmoki will first try to persuade Raidou, using his demon eyes, to hand him the weapon and Tomoe to him. Raidou will obviously refuse, and wonder why Trashmoki is looking at him in the same way Root does.

And I’ve said this in a chapter way, way, way back. But I do hope trashmoki uses the demon eye on Mio. I’ll accept that as the blood offering.

      1. He doesn’t even need the sakai, the difference in their power levels would result in it being ineffective. The gorgons eyes had no effect for the same reason. If anything he would just find it creepy and annoying.

It was covered a long time ago, anyone trying to use magic on Makoto is about as effective as adding a bucket of water or salt to an ocean. The ocean just absorbs it and is not changed noticably. At least for curses, charms, magical poisons and such. Its possible that magically generated fire, ice, etc could affect him but you would need to catch him offguard and oversome his really high base defenses.

    1. LOL @ this “But I do hope trashmoki uses the demon eye on Mio. I’ll accept that as the blood offering.”
That would truly be something! 😀

      1. I think it’s safer to say that those with high resistance aren’t affected.

Remember when the two hero parties joined together to conquer Stella Fort?

I think the effect of Trashmoki’s demon eye’s is “Look at him with a favorable light.”

While Hibiki and Chiya weren’t affected, Naval(F), Bredda(M), Wudi(M) were, and they saw everything Trashmoki say and did as good.

        So, yeah.

*Readies the Knife for the Throat-Slitting*

Trashmoki, ready to give up your blood for the offering?

  11. Thanks for the chapter!

I’m surprised Root didn’t use his knowledge as the head of the Adventures’ Guild to point out Tomoe’s level to make sure all know she’s the real deal.

      1. Yes and no.

It keeps them from figuring out the full strength of Kuzunoha sure, but it also raises the issue of the head of the adventuring guild not knowing one of the highest level adventurer of all times later on when she’s unavoidably investigated.

The fact he’s in cahoots with them might be deduced.

  12. its outside of the story but there its a question i have for a while
but i only find images of volume 8 and 8.5 and i presume the 8.5 are actually the specials being translated by reigokai with others
but does that mean that this its the last arc Volume being sold? the story we are reading right now?
if thats true mind ask how many chapters left till the nightmare of waiting months for 1 chapter release haha

  13. The principal is a jerk, and I hope he dies soon or he gets replaced as a principal for his failures.
Also, Root got a few points this chapter, with that katana trick he thought. Makoto really is useless without other people’s help, now he owes him, I think. Hope Root will want his own ass stuffed, instead of wanting to stuff Makoto’s ass (O_O)
Anyway, I don’t really trust that king, after all the shit the hyumans pulled out… I think a good sign of trust would be offering the head of the Hopelace big boss as a token of peace to Makoto… And well, his students. Only then I would trust him a little.

    1. though id like that were the case i think instead of a curse its a just a mix of drugs and venom that deteriorate vitals. even if he lift the curse the dmg will stay i think thats what shiki meant that there its not back for ilum boy

  14. My my… i wonder if that princess took the bait on what root said completely since she knows tomoe’s a dragon..
well maybe, cos lily still doesnt know tomoes skills after all

  15. was wondering why it was 138, turns out I missed a chapter. Oh well, reading it, it was pretty much empty, another filler. Anyway.

So in summary, Makoto thought of gaining favor from the VIP personages by lending them a hand?

I thought it was good. He even brought Tomoe this time. Excellent.

    except…

other than that and bringing Tomoe, Makoto didn’t have a plan after the introructions. I thought he at least discussed with Tomoe how they’ll play it out after arriving in the room. But nooo. He was just standing there clueless like an idiot at what Root and Tomoe just started.
Did Makoto seriously think; “Oh hey~ my companion here (and me) can use chantless Teleportation magic to get your sorry little butts to safety!<3 *teehee pero~*"

I thought he would catch on after a while but, turns out he was left out of the loop. As usual.
Also, misguiding their interest onto the short katana making them think it is the "mechanism" or tool instead of them, was a brilliant move. As expected of Root and Tomoe. It could be used as the excuse when people press about their teleportation methods as asked by the merchant representative earlier, at least it would hold some ground, credibility, since they showed it to the King and such. If he still wants to continue operating in Rotsgard that is.

Also, it only confirmed even more my assumption that not everything is reported to Makoto after his talk with the King. Setting aside Tomoe and Lily's meeting it was already made clear Tomoe cut corners in her report with the excuse of "better see with his own eyes" bullshit. What i'm concern about is with Mio and the staff incharge of reporting in Tsige branch. Why did he not know a Hero patroned his shop? recruited adventurers under the tutelage of his underlings? It involves both his shop and personnel, it would make sense if Hibiki did not reveal her status as Hero but, she did. It was said to Mio, but you can pretty much assume that she used her title to recruit adventurers ad well. So such a person bein in Tsige should have reached Makoto's ears, from either Mio or the staff incharge there.

it seems I digressed slightly again. Anyway, there's just too much Makoto is lacking, it's not that I am overestimating him this time but, Makoto could have at least thought of how they were going to conduct this good-will act before reaching the VIP room. Which he failed to do, and again, left it all to his all-reliable companion. Which makes all the self-reflecting, self-loathing, self-depreciating, and how he will properly conduct his action from then on, these past five chapters including now was all left for naught.

I really thought he grew a bit though, apparently it was my delusion as his mind was only able to think of gaining favors, of how it was going to be conducted however… was beyond him. Oh well, at least he finally knows who is who. Now if only the King and co. would discuss what led Illumgand in such a state next chapter. It would be a nice change of pace, and will actually move on the story now.

then again, my complaints aside, this episode is definitely a lot more interesting than the last few filler chapters had been since the Team battles ended.
    .
    .
    .
    Cheers for the great work.

    1. i dont expect Makoto to become some kind of intellectual over think guy since theres shiki and tomoe and mio(since she only thinks whats best for makoto and only him) as well.

The one thing i want to see is for him is to snap, since hes such a diligent guy it might never happen

the only time he snap i guess is where he fought mio. About the mitsurugi and dragon killer, think he never rage there as well

      1. Well, it was only pertaining to his idea of owing favors by doing good-will. He doesn’t really need to be intellectual or smart, or cunning to figure out what would happen if those important figures ever learn that there is/are individuals who can use TP conveniently. It was only recently that Makoto got owned by the representative afteall. He was expecting Tomoe to say she possess the ability instead of a tool. One can only imagine what happens next.

Also, there is only one time that Makoto snapped. When he naively brought injured adventurers inside Asora(real), and got an Arke and mini-Tomoe v1 killed.

      2. The orc Elder and miniTomoe died, he saved the Arke by layering healing sekai on healing sekai.

He obviously had a plan when he headed over to the guests seats, but he can’t speak common so he had Tomoe get their attention. Then while he was, probably, getting his thoughts together to form into the letters to explain what he was planning, Tomoe did what she has done many times before, made some assumtions and procceeded to impliment her ideas before Makoto could stop her.

The inability to speak when you understand the conversation is a HUGE detriment is a lot of ways. The fact that Tomoe has such a strong presence that everyone focuses on her instead doesn’t help matters either, before Makoto can put any kind of plan into action he has to get their attention and take the time to form the letters for them to read. Meanwhile Tomoe just needs a couple seconds to explain what her idea is, and since all the attention was on her anyways..

Beautiful woman with a strong presence from level and magic power VS ugly male with no detectable magic power. Which one is likely to be able to implement their ideas first when dealing with royalty.

      3. @IamMe
Oh right, the Arke was saved after that. Anyway.

You say that it is a “huge detriment” that Makoto was unable to converse verbaly and thus will have to wait for him to write. Correct?

You know. That is precisely what I am pointing at. He brought Tomoe along not as an escort but as the “speaker” in his stead. Now, you may argue that it wasn’t stated that it was her assigned role per se, but, thinking about it, Makoto most likely intended Tomoe to be the one to engage in negotiation simply because he knew he lacked the ability. I mean, he wouldn’t bring her along for the sole purpose of performing the mist gate or brag her prowess, right?

What I don’t understand is why the both of them could not discuss it before hand, I mean, they had to walk a few minutes in order to reach the VIP room right? if they will reveal they themselves can use tp magic, or to pretend it’s from a tool.

Let’s go with what you said. That Tomoe was assuming the intentions of Makoto and started off on her own accord. Are you suggesting Tomoe figured it on her own that Makoto intended to loan good-will, by using the mist gate, all on her own without the need for Makoto to tell her his intentions? I know Tomoe is capable but, she’s a mind reader now?(I know she can read minds, okay. He forbidded it.) There was just a lack of coordination between the two, if going by what you said, since Tomoe was constantly taking the lead like you said. Which is to me, unlikely. Makoto has been using written communication for a long time now and even mentioned he is used to it, so it really isn’t a hindrance when he is conversing. He was clearly leaving it to Tomoe intentionaly.

    2. NO NO NO. Hibiki NEVER revealed that was a hero while I’m Tsige, and she SPECIFICALLY backed down from telling Mio such before their parting. Re read the chapter, but she kept it secret until the end and Mio still thinks of her as nothing but an inexperienced adventurer with cooking knowledge.

      1. Really? i’ll look it up later. Also. It wasn’t mentioned but, the adventurers recruited afterwards oughta have known, right? I dunno who those are but they were under the guidance of Kuzunoha and would’ve at least asked for permission first, right? Makoto wasn’t even aware of them leaving.

But in any case, Makoto didn’t even wonder who the person is that taught Mio some basic Japanese recipes, accepting it all as teachings from the natives of this current world. Then again, this issue isn’t really much of interest.

      2. I could have sworn Mio figured it out. I thought I remembered some part about her figuring it out and forcing that wolf (or whatever monster it was the attacked Mio at the beach) to not tell Hibiki she was the spider they fought.

      3. @ masukure
Yep, that’s what I know too. Mio is actually not dimwitted, or dense. It just doesn’t interest her.

Ah but this time I said “Hibiki” told Mio, so I’m probably wrong there.

      4. Hibiki intentionally hid the fact that she was the Hero. The adventurers that followed her did not need to have any particular connection to Kuzunoha, the city had a fair number of high level adventurers that had learned under Tomoes leadership. All Hibiki really had to tell them that she is going to join the war effort and they would follow her because they want to help in the fight against the demons and because of Hibiki’s augmented charisma. They would have learned that she was the Hero when they reached Limia though.

The wolf familiars presence would not have told Mio anything about Hibiki other then the fact that they had fought before. To the hunger crazed Mio they were just another group of stronger then average fighters that she came across that happened to have an unusual pet. It’s not like you would be yelling out about someone being the Hero of Limia in the middle of a life and death battle with a monster. Mio also would not have cared where she got the knowledge of cooking and could accept the lie that it was from books readily. Mio seems to care more about the end result then the process that led to it. We have also found out that there is a country that has been collecting the otherworld visitors and its possible that cooking is one of the things they learned, there could be books with the method of cooking Japanese meals out there.

Tsige is also a city that is closest to the wasteland, anyone that wants to gain level in the wasteland would probably pass through it. This would lead to people from all over making it a base and finding people with unusual knowledge would not be too hard.

    3. Makoto is not a smart guy in the 1st place… he is still inexperienced so he doesnt think far ahead such as how to gain the vip trust…

Thats why we have mio, shiki and tomoe since they are older, smarter, and wiser than makoto… their role is to guide makoto to the right path while honoring his wishes

The good thing is makoto know his limit, thats why in some cases he leave some job to his subordinate…

Mind you! He never wishes to become asora’s leader, the people of asora wishes him to become one

So stop comparing him to shiba tatsuya, or lelouch vi brittania

      1. Who is comparing to who… Sheesh.

In case you didn’t understand clearly, which apparently you didn’t.

It was only about the — how they will play out the “good-will” act they will extend to the VIP guests. In which, Makoto was left confused of how it was handled by Tomoe and Root, leaving him confused and beffudled early inthe game. When it was his idea to begin with.

    4. It can’t be help that they cut corners, those 3 guys only think of these things are too minor for waka to deal with. and that leads to current illumugand problem. They think those problems are minor and not needed to tell makoto then those small things piled up and became big. Makoto did not question them so it kind of expected if things go unexpected.
As for the katana, to me it is a bad idea.True it can hide their true ability but then it will also bring violence upon them. A katana that can teleport you to any location even if you never visit them will bring envy to others and did not totally solve anything and they will think there are other weapons that are as capable as the weapon in Kuzunoha, Merchants will send thief burglars or maybe demand them to share who create or where he found the items.
If he said he discover the spell and only kuzunoha know how to use them, even if they want take it by force they can defeat anyone or refuse those who are coming to learn the spell.
Most of the problem is because of his retainers think when time comes, makoto can solve everything as he has the power to face it.

      1. It wasn’t about Illumgand.

Anyway, about the short Katana, it was mentioned that it is endowed with a “restriction” that only the Owner, Makoto and Eldwas, who is able to activate it. Think of it as a sort of “bind” type of equipment, as was shown when Trashmoki held Tomoe’s personal Katana. It won’t activate nor will unsheathe from it’s scabbard.

They could treat it as a one of a kind heirloom, or a unique drop/loot from a treasure chest in a labyrith or ruin somewhere deep in the wasteland, since it is basically unexplored anyway. Even if it gets stolen and unsheated, they could simply go with an excuse of, “you have no authority to ativate it’s effect.”, or something. It is a “one of a kind!” so it eliminates the prospect of it having others. Atleastthat’s how i’d play it if inquired by the King.

      2. yes they can do that but still can get dirty, I think root make it that way because it is entertaining, how they will overcome the people who after their artifact. If it is only them can use, it doesn’t mean that they can’t crack it so it is still give hope for them to get their hand on the katana..
The ilmugand is clearly the kuzunoha fault, they prevent ilmugand to make contact with rukia that make it like this. They did not even tell makoto about ilmugand attempt to contact rukia (ruka?) hence the merchant guild issue and also the rules bend in the tournament.

  16. thanks for the chap!!

hmm… the story is not satisfying yet.. moar~ please, but it maybe another story part again.. well i dont care, MORE!!

  17. I… totally forgot about Root O_O)a

Look Makoto, there is one side that will support you and won’t betray you… you just have to risk your chastity :p

Thank you for the translations ^0^

  18. im glad that you actually not as mad as i imagine. anyway, i still hoping for some carnage chapter. but it seems like makoto choose diplomatic solution instead

  19. ok…. he just now reveled his biggest card? and in the stupidiest way possible?

its obvous he has mist gates in various zones for change the wheather, doesnt showing that skill make now all higher ups being care or aware of MIST <<< ?? i like a lot this novel but god…. at least i hope this make easier for makoto make a pact with root i REALLY want a female root with him always. the post for always givng the face its good for her/him / well thats only my opinion since makoto its completely 54564854% on negation for it haha he its just weak with carnivores haha

    1. nah, its just one of his trump card and since root said it came from the sword and tomoe ride on the same story means at least theyre not taking interest to them directly, instead its through the weapon. Also since it cant be drawn by any other but just the two of them also means others cant use the weapon as well even if they steals it.

About the biggest trump card, i think Asora is the biggest trump card excluding makoto and his servants, so teleportation is just one of the small trump card the way i see it.

      1. But, but the teleportation, or mist gates goes to asora, and they are placed in several places for the clima in it, so revealing that can reveal the existence of asora as well.

      2. @Izayoi, MIst gates don’t have to go to Asora, they can lead to another location or just be a zone to trap someone in. When Makoto killed the female adventurer he didn’t teleport her to Asora to do it, he placed her in a gate that was suspended seperate from the city and Asoa. He did it in such a way that no matter how much she screamed, no one would hear her.

There is also the case when Mio asked Tomoe to transport HIbiki and crew to the city, I doubt she bothered to move them to Asora first then the city but instead probably just transfered them straight to the city.

      3. Also, the gates used for climate don’t have to be open, they just can’t be sealed. If the gate is closed it will still affect the climate but most people will not be able to sense it. Mist Gates have 3 phases, open, closed and sealed.

      4. @IamMe
Aren’t the 3 phases more like active, inactive(remnants that can be reactivated), and fades away unless they deliberately leave remnants.

      5. Active (open), Inactive (closed), Faded out (sealed). It’s just another name for the phases. There is only visible mist for the Active gates, the other 2 phases don’t leave anything visible to the average person. The used to leave inactive gates here and there since it was easier to reopen an inactive gate then to make a new one. Tomoe then figured out that the inactive gates were the cause of the climate instability. Since then they don’t leave as many inactive gates around.

    2. Not really, Tomoe only revealed of a “teleportation” method that they are not aware of, it doesn’t necessarily mean that her Mist gate’s “true” function was revealed, or will be examined. Also it is instantaneous, the other side may be unseeable but it is in essence still a gate which immediately transfer them to one point to another, unlike a tunnel where they would walk for a bit.

Also, that is where Root came in using Tomoe’s short Katana as the “tool” or source.

Actually, it’d be beneficial for them if Tomoe would read their minds in addition when they enter her mist gate.

  20. Thanks for the chapter~!

Yes, rather than show everyone that your follower is OP, redirect the attention to a suitable innocuous item. Since your goal is to show people that you are helpful, not OP, or they will ask you to clean up their mess.

Well, if he can do what Shiki said would be very difficult to do (save Illumgard), that would be OP. Does he want to show that?

  21. love you reigokai ^^
thanks for doing this! and yes negative comments are obviously a bad effect on the translator and so those who do that without any concern for the rest of the community are not voicing their free opinions……THEY ARE JUST BEING AN ASS

  22. Thanks for the cliff….. I mean, chapter! (っ´▽`)っ well the story is advancing, now i cant wait to see how makoto will show his power (I really want him to do so). And how the big-shots will react when he goes to the demon side (๑و•̀ω•́)و. I wonder what will do that little bitch, the princess whose name i dont remember. Anyway, thank you again for a great chapter reigokai-sama ヾ(〃^∇^)ノ.

  23. I want to read about a scene where someone steals that supposedly OP TP sword and succesfully claim it for themselves and while makoto and gang are acting worried but deep down theyre laughing out loud that would be so funny i hope it happens xD

      1. @abrafax

I always assumed that the weapons simply require a certain amount of magic power before they can be used, instead of being keyed to specific people.

The dwarves simply adjust the weapons strength (and therefore required magic power) to its intended user, and they themselves are always able to use the items, because of their special abilities as smiths of magic items (or maybe it’s a racial ability).

That’s why only Makoto and Tomoe (and maybe Mio?) can draw the sword. No one else has enough magic power.

      2. @Kortodo that makes far less sense than a “user, permitted personnel and maintenance folks-only” lock. Personally, I think of it as MMO equipment bind.

      3. @solarhive

That’s because of the assumption that there is a lock in place. If that were the case, then yes, what you said is true.

However, the way I see it, there is no deliberate lock put in place. It’s just that the more powerful the items are, the more magic power they need to even go into a “stand-by” mode (like Tomoe’s sword being unsheathed), let alone active. The dwarves make the items for specific people, but that’s because they need to check how powerful they need to make the items, so the person can actually use them.

Which means that, in case of people like Tomoe, any item made for her would require so much magic power to activate, that no Hyuman or even Demon could ever hope to use it, thus making it seem like it’s sealed to everyone but a select few.

In terms of MMO, that would be like a simple level or stat requirement on items, rather than items being Soul Bound to the character.

  24. Thanks for the chapter!
Protection from the highest nobles to Raido’s business helps shut a lot of mouths. He can always remain neutral with this. Though a bit has been revealed. I hope he remains neutral as much as possible.

      1. if he opens a shop in the Demon side, then, he can then be considered “neutral”. As of now, he only serves the Hyuman side and some Mammonos. I doubt he’ll defect.

        1. sorry. well, i want him to open a shop there at the very least, and see the reactions from the people in the merchant guild, and the big-shots.

    1. I bet that’s the main reason why Tomoe said it’s the sword that allows them to teleport.

That sword is important to Tomoe, as it’s part of her image, so if Lily wasn’t there, she’d probably take out a different item to use for the teleportation. But she probably couldn’t help but want to “tease” Lily a little after their last meeting.

      1. There was prolly more to that than just the sword. Imma thinkin that both tomoe and rootz might had thought abt it and be looking ahead. Prolly something in the line of purposely not goin all out.

    1. Lol, didn’t think of that.

I hope we’ll get a short (as in just a few paragraphs, not a whole chapter) PoV of Trash-kun after Lily returns. I really want to see his pain when he finds out about that (and the other stuff concerning Raidou being more awesome than him).

  25. ………..γ ̄ヽ………Thanks!…………

  26. Thank you for the chapter!!!

Hohou~ things are going pretty well, somehow…
I hope makoto save illumgard, then this and that, he became ally.

  27. I sense anticlimactic curb stomp in the near future……..
I can feel it with my skin and mah butthole!!
Speaking of buttholes. *runs towards the toilet*

      1. *flush sounds*
Ahhhh that feels better, eating burritos with sushi and extra wasabi for a side dish on a constipated day is NOT combo worthy…….
Anyway, what I was saying earlier?
        Oh yeah curb stomp.
        I CAN FEEL IT!!

  28. Why does it feels like a death flag has risen? Although sekai should be able to protect them…….. and lily is with tomoe lol so heartwarming

  29. Its pervert Root.
Right, he was here as well.
    Damn it.

Lmao the way he treats Root is great.
    Thanks for the chapter!

  30. I honestly feel really bad for the kid. Misunderstandings being piled on top of one another, with the demons fueling the fire.

Hopefully he can be changed back…

    1. I doubt they can turn him back. Shiki did say that he has already transformed to the point of no return.

Then again, Makoto does have a divine ability that can do anything he can imagine clearly enough, something Shiki probably didn’t take into consideration, so there might be that chance.

If not, then having the King and Hopelace hear it directly from Shiki will probably sound more convincing, since he can explain it better. So it’s a good thing Makoto is bringing them to him.

  31. Thanks for the translation!

I tried to read ahead using Google Translation. I appreciate the quality of the translation you a making after comparing it to Google Translation!!

  32. thank you so much!
but but but…. if raidou goes there, then the monster will go berserk since he hates raidou, doesn’t he?
he hates hates hates raidou so much…

    1. That would be a concern, IF Ilumgand is more than a mindless beast at this point. It’s highly likely that he is completely gone, and his body is on autopilot.

      1. He eats people though, right? Makoto is obviously a tasty dish given how many woman secretly want him. :p

    1. Given that he is, after all, just Kid Joe Average before being shafted by the goddess, is it really that strange he is not scheming and plotting like a pro?

  33. Hahaha! Just goes to show Reigokai how much we appreciate it.

Hmm….this chapter finally starts building up momentum. Makoto meets the bigshots, though he isn’t standing out just yet. Let’s give them a few more hours to realize.

    1. He ALREADY stood out though.

Limia king knows of him from Hopelace + the reputation of ‘those students’ teacher’
Lily knows of him from Tomoe
The chuch had contact with him.
Sairitz suspects him as a ‘wise man’ (i.e. Japanese)

Only the principal is oblivious in all this.

That said it irks me that he thought about how the ability of him and his followers using teleport casually are abnormal, then questions why would Tomoe tries to not let people realize they’re that OP despite his insistence on being a ‘normal’ company this much.

      1. You know the fact that he’s never actually met the principle of the academy speaks a lot about terribly it’s probably run.

  34. Well, at least Tomoe had the foresight to make it seem like their ability to teleport wasn’t their own skill but was something granted to them by some magic sword. In a way, that makes them seem less threatening, or at least disguises some of their war potential. Also, it provides some nice juicy bait to attract ne’er-do-wells to interrogate.

      1. They are powerful enough, no matter how big the fish is, they don’t have to worry about losing the bait. In that case, might as well use the shiniest bait they can.

  35. thx for the chap.
finally we’ll get some action soon. i hope makoto at least show a lil part of his power, to show the other how strong he is, not only his retainers

    1. This gave me a flashback to ISSTH. The Hyumans will insist that Makoto sell them the sword. Makoto will tell them that it’s just an ordinary sword with some minor enchantments, that they won’t be able to use it to teleport, but the Hyumans will throw money and items at Makoto then take the sword and run off.

  36. Hm. Hm. This seems like a bad decision, though… Bad premonition? Or have I been paying too much attention to the so-called Spoiler-san…? 😐

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀

      1. I want to read this as bulk, but I always get tempted to check for updates every day and end up being disappointed because one chap is not enough.. Thanks reigo sama..

    1. lol, its relatively not that hard getting 1st place in some other sites.

But I swear theres a F5 sect for this site. so hard to get 1st.

    2. That’ll be after me right? =P Gl

Other than that, thanks for translating! We are cheering you on over here!
